About This Text

Sifrei Zuta is a third-century midrash on the book of Numbers. The midrash was lost for centuries and reconstructed in the 19th and 20th centuries based on quotations from other works of midrash, biblical commentary, and manuscript fragments from the Cairo Genizah. Sifrei Zuta is considered to be part of a group of midrashim that originated in the school of Rabbi Akiva but is noteworthy for its unique style, terminology, the names of the rabbis quoted, and original legal positions that don’t appear elsewhere in rabbinic literature. Rabbi Chaim Shaul Horowitz published this edition of Sifrei Zuta on Numbers in 1917.
