This is a self-paced online course designed to help educators become proficient in the use of Sefaria in educational settings. Each lesson contains an assignment, and educators who complete all ten assignments with a score of at least 80% will be certified as Sefaria educators. Questions? Email [email protected].

Learning Outcomes:
In this lesson, you will explore different ways of using, presenting, and manipulating Sefaria’s sheets once they have been created. You will experiment with various tools on Sefaria and begin to think about which ones might be best suited to different situations in teaching and learning.

Learning Outcomes: This lesson will help you appreciate the options available to you on your account page, which includes ways of connecting with others on the site in order to learn from them, as well as features to store and access your own learning. You’ll also find out how to get more information about the classic authors on our site, in addition to others who create sheet content.
Essential Questions: How might I connect with a community of educators using Sefaria? How might Sefaria continue to support me in my day-to-day work?
Learning Outcomes: This lesson will showcase the educator landing page and make you aware of the components that are designed specifically to support educators in their work. You will see all of the pieces of the educator page, and hear about what we’re building next.
Essential Questions: What might I share with the Sefaria community now that I have completed this course? How might I continue to work with Sefaria’s team or draw on what I have learned moving forward?
Learning Outcomes: In this lesson, you will reflect on what you have learned from this course, and learn about some of the new work that Sefaria is doing to engage with Israeli and American educators.
Essential Questions: How might Sefaria’s technology help us see and teach information in new ways? What tools might help us teach text skills in new and better ways?
Learning Outcomes: This lesson will demonstrate Sefaria’s newer and more experimental features, so that participants have a sense of how using digital texts is fundamentally different from studying print. Learners will develop their own thoughts about how to leverage these tools in their own educational settings.

In this lesson, you will learn how to format a sheet once you have created it, how to play with the format, and how to share your sheet and collaborate with others.

How does creating a sheet look and feel different when I am working with digital materials?
Learning Outcomes:
In this session, you will learn how to create a sheet on Sefaria, and add sources, outside texts, connected texts, comments, and media. You will create a sheet, and begin to use tags and summaries so that the materials you create will be maximally valuable to you and to anyone else who has access to them.

What might I and/or my students gain from being able to easily search through generations of Jewish texts?
How might I leverage Sefaria’s search for my own learning and teaching?
How does Sefaria’s search help me connect with a larger, multi-generational community of authors and learners?
Learning outcomes:
In this session, you will learn how to to look up an idea or word or track down a text when you don’t have an exact reference. You will be able to use Sefaria’s bilingual search bar, and filter or tailor your search using the tools. You will be able to discover texts, text authors, and sheet authors to enhance and inspire your learning. You will also learn to use the “topics” feature on Sefaria’s home page.

How do I establish my presence on the site?
How do I navigate the site?
How can I begin to find my way through the sources here?
Learning outcomes:
In this session, you will learn how to create an account and establish a presence on Sefaria. You’ll get a brief tour of the site, and discover how to use our textual connections to find new sources and move from one text to another. Finally, you’ll learn how to complete an assignment on Sefaria, so that you can submit what you create.

How might we use Sefaria’s library of texts in the classroom? In what situations might digital technology provide advantages over print?
Learning Outcomes:
In this lesson, you will learn how to use the tools in Sefaria’s library, so that you can think creatively about how this technology might enable you to iterate and try new things in the classroom. You will encounter different ways of interacting with our library, and think about how both you and your students might benefit from these tools.
