Composed: Talmudic Babylon, c.450 – c.550 CE
Tractate Megillah (“Scroll”) is located in Seder Moed (“the Order of Festivals”). The first two chapters discuss the laws of reading the scroll of Esther on the holiday of Purim and include interpretations of and elaborations upon the scroll’s story. The remaining two chapters discuss laws of public reading of the Torah and Prophets, public prayer, and treatment and selling of sacred objects and synagogues.
