10 Minute Torah - Bereshet

(27) And God created human beings in the divine image, in the image of God

God created human beings; male and female He created them.

(11) ... R’ Yehoshua barNechemyah in the name of R’ Chanina bar Yitshak and the rabbis in the name of R’ Lazar (Elazar), say: God created in human beings four attributes from the creatures above and four attributes from the creatures below.

Attributes from the creatures above – human beings stand like ministering angels, speak like ministering angels, have knowledge like ministering angels, and understand like ministering angels.

Attributes from the creatures below – human beings eat and drink like an animal, reproduces and have children, leave piles, and dies like an animal...

Said the Holy One: If I create a human being only with the attributes of angels, he would live forever, and never die. If I created a human being entirely with the attributes of animals, he would die and wouldn't merit the world to come. So what I will do is to create man with the natures of both...

If you could choose, which attributes of an angel and which attributes of an animal would you want to have? If you could only choose to be one, an angel or an animal, which would you chose and why?
