(איוב לו, ז) לא יגרע מצדיק עיניו בשכר צניעות שהית' בה ברחל זכתה ויצא ממנה שאול ובשכר צניעות שהיה בו בשאול זכה ויצאת ממנו אסתר
“He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous” (Job 36:7)? In reward for the modesty displayed by Rachel, she merited having Saul descend from her; and in reward for the modesty displayed by Saul, he merited having Esther descend from him.
we can see from here the chain reaction through generations as G-d rewards measure for measure.
He replied: I am his brother in trickery.
(יב) וַיַּגֵּ֨ד יַעֲקֹ֜ב לְרָחֵ֗ל כִּ֣י אֲחִ֤י אָבִ֙יהָ֙ ה֔וּא וְכִ֥י בֶן־רִבְקָ֖ה ה֑וּא
(12) And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son;
ומי שרי לצדיקי לסגויי ברמיותא אמר לה אין
Is it permitted to the righteous to engage in trickery? He replied: Yes;
(27) With the pure Thou dost show Thyself pure; And with the crooked Thou dost show Thyself subtle.
(יג) וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ לָבָ֜ן אֶת־שֵׁ֣מַע ׀ יַעֲקֹ֣ב בֶּן־אֲחֹת֗וֹ וַיָּ֤רָץ לִקְרָאתוֹ֙ וַיְחַבֶּק־לוֹ֙ וַיְנַשֶּׁק־ל֔וֹ וַיְבִיאֵ֖הוּ אֶל־בֵּית֑וֹ
(13) And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house.
(א) ויבך. לפי שצפה ברוח הקודש שאינה נכנסת עמו לקבורה דבר אחר לפי שבא בידים ריקניות, אמר אליעזר עבד אבי אבא היו בידיו נזמים וצמידים ומגדנות, ואני אין בידי כלום. לפי שרדף אליפז בן עשו במצות אביו אחריו להרגו והשיגו, ולפי שגדל אליפז בחיקו של יצחק משך ידו. אמר לו מה אעשה לצווי של אבא, אמר לו יעקב טול מה שבידי, והעני חשוב כמת:
