(Copy)
I have always questioned something quite major about this week's Parasha: Why is the Parasha about the most important commandments in our history named after Yitro and not the עשרת הדברות?
Furthermore, I'd like to point out something rather important that Yitro said in this Parasha that might help us understand slightly better why he merited to be the namesake: in the Torah, the words "לא טוב" only appear twice and they are:
(18) The LORD God said, “It is not good for man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him.”
(17) But Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing you are doing is not right;
Both psukim above agree that man is not meant to be alone; whether it be alone where he is without a companion and a differing opinion to his own or whether it be without the help he needs to worship G-d in the correct way.
(18) you will surely wear yourself out, and these people as well. For the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.
Yitro was the only person who was able to see that Moshe had too much on his plate and to do something about it.
(18) you will surely wear yourself out, and these people as well. For the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.
Yitro realised that if Moshe were to continue this way where Bnei Israel were waiting all day to be able to see him that it would be detrimental to both Moshe and the people he leads.

An amazing thing that Yitro teaches us: other than the importance of delegation in order to not overwhelm ourselves, is that whatever we strive to help ourselves and help others, then G-d will support us.
(19) Now listen to me. I will give you counsel, and God be with you! You represent the people before God: you bring the disputes before God,
Yitro represents positive pro-activity. He was proactive when he went out of his way to see Moshe and the people he redeemed as well as to praise G-d on his own. He was also proactive by taking notice to Moshe's trying to lead on his own was "לא טוב" and then coming up with a solution. Yitro's solution was to appoint delegates to ease the workload. The positive aspect of it was that Yitro always considerate of people as well as doing the things he believed in. Yitro's lessons needed to be before the Commandments as they teach us that all the Commandments that G-d will bestow upon us should be kept to the best of our abilities and we should never lose faith in G-d but at the same time we must be considerate of ourselves and our limits otherwise "נבל טבל גם אתה גם העם".
