(5) But for your own life-blood I will require a reckoning: I will require it of every beast; of man, too, will I require a reckoning for human life, of every man for that of his fellow man! (6) Whoever sheds the blood of man, By man shall his blood be shed; For in His image Did God make man.

(1) The Philistines attacked Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and [many] fell on Mount Gilboa. (2) The Philistines pursued Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul. (3) The battle raged around Saul, and some of the archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers. (4) Saul said to his arms-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, so that the uncircumcised may not run me through and make sport of me.” But his arms-bearer, in his great awe, refused; whereupon Saul grasped the sword and fell upon it. (5) When his arms-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.

[Returning to the first explanation:] Therefore a singular man was created-- to teach you that anyone who causes one Israelite life to be lost, Scripture accounts to him as if he caused a whole world to be lost; and anyone who sustains one Israelite life, Scripture accounts to him as if he sustained an entire world.

And one who closes while the soul departs - behold this one spills blood. Gemara - Our rabbis taught: ... One who closes him with the departure of the soul - behold this one spills blood. An analogy: to a lamp that is going out, someone puts his finger on it - immediately it goes out.

(7) Whether a person kills a healthy person, a person who is sick unto the point of death, or even a goses, the killer should be put to death. Yet if one kills a person who is a goses because of wounds inflicted upon him, that he was harmed until the point of becoming a goses, the killer should not be put to death by the court.
