Miracle of Birth

(א) וַֽיהוָ֛ה פָּקַ֥ד אֶת־שָׂרָ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמָ֑ר וַיַּ֧עַשׂ יְהוָ֛ה לְשָׂרָ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃ (ב) וַתַּהַר֩ וַתֵּ֨לֶד שָׂרָ֧ה לְאַבְרָהָ֛ם בֵּ֖ן לִזְקֻנָ֑יו לַמּוֹעֵ֕ד אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר אֹת֖וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (ג) וַיִּקְרָ֨א אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֶֽת־שֶׁם־בְּנ֧וֹ הַנּֽוֹלַד־ל֛וֹ אֲשֶׁר־יָלְדָה־לּ֥וֹ שָׂרָ֖ה יִצְחָֽק׃ (ד) וַיָּ֤מָל אַבְרָהָם֙ אֶת־יִצְחָ֣ק בְּנ֔וֹ בֶּן־שְׁמֹנַ֖ת יָמִ֑ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (ה) וְאַבְרָהָ֖ם בֶּן־מְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה בְּהִוָּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֵ֖ת יִצְחָ֥ק בְּנֽוֹ׃ (ו) וַתֹּ֣אמֶר שָׂרָ֔ה צְחֹ֕ק עָ֥שָׂה לִ֖י אֱלֹהִ֑ים כָּל־הַשֹּׁמֵ֖עַ יִֽצְחַק־לִֽי׃ (ז) וַתֹּ֗אמֶר מִ֤י מִלֵּל֙ לְאַבְרָהָ֔ם הֵינִ֥יקָה בָנִ֖ים שָׂרָ֑ה כִּֽי־יָלַ֥דְתִּי בֵ֖ן לִזְקֻנָֽיו׃ (ח) וַיִּגְדַּ֥ל הַיֶּ֖לֶד וַיִּגָּמַ֑ל וַיַּ֤עַשׂ אַבְרָהָם֙ מִשְׁתֶּ֣ה גָד֔וֹל בְּי֖וֹם הִגָּמֵ֥ל אֶת־יִצְחָֽק׃

(1) The LORD took note of Sarah as He had promised, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. (2) Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken. (3) Abraham gave his newborn son, whom Sarah had borne him, the name of Isaac. (4) And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him. (5) Now Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. (6) Sarah said, “God has made me into laughter; everyone who hears will laugh with [or "at"] me.” (7) And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham That Sarah would suckle children! Yet I have borne a son in his old age.” (8) The child grew up and was weaned, and Abraham held a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

ו וה' פקד את שרה אמר רבי יצחק כתיב (במדבר ה) "ואם לא נטמאה האשה וטהורה היא, ונקתה ונזרעה זרע", זו שנכנסה לביתו של פרעה ולביתו של אבימלך ויצאת טהורה אינו דין שתפקד, אמר רבי יהודה ברבי סימון אע"ג דאמר רבי הונא מלאך הוא שהוא ממונה על התאוה, אבל שרה לא נצרכה לדברים הללו, אלא הוא בכבודו. וה' פקד את שרה, ותהר ותלד שרה לאברהם בן לזקוניו מלמד שלא גנבה זרע ממקום אחר, בן לזקוניו, מלמד שהיה זיו איקונין שלו דומה לו.

Sarah Does not Need An Angel Appointed for Desire

10. Genesis Rabbah: “And God visited Sarah.” Rabbi Yitzchak said [quoting scripture] “And if the woman has not become impure, and she is pure; then she shall be cleared and conceive” (Num. 5:28) This one who entered the house of Pharoah and into the house of Avimelekh and came out pure, isn’t it logical that she would be visited [by God]. Rabbi Judah said in the name of Rabbi Simon: Even though Rabbi Huna said that an angel is appointed over desire, Sarah had no need for such things. Rather he in his glory [made her conceive]. “And God visited Sarah. And Sarah bore Abraham a son for his old age (zekunav).” This teaches that she did not steal seed from somewhere else. Ben LeZekunav-- a son for his old age, teaches that his features were similar to his father's.

No One Believed Isaac was Abraham and Sarah's Son!!

(בראשית כא, ז) ותאמר מי מלל לאברהם הניקה בנים שרה? כמה בנים הניקה שרה? אמר רבי לוי אותו היום שגמל אברהם את יצחק בנו עשה סעודה גדולה. היו כל אומות העולם מרננים ואומרים: ראיתם זקן וזקנה שהביאו אסופי מן השוק ואומרים בנינו הוא ולא עוד אלא שעושין משתה גדול להעמיד דבריהם.

In reference to Sarah having given birth to Isaac, the verse states: “And she said: Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah should nurse children?” (Genesis 21:7). The Gemara asks: How many children did Sarah nurse? Why does the verse use the plural form when she had only one child? Rabbi Levi says: That day when Abraham weaned his son Isaac, he prepared a great celebratory feast. All of the nations of the world were gossiping and saying to each other: See this old man and old woman who brought a foundling from the market and are saying: He is our son, and moreover they are making a great feast to bolster their claim.

What did Abraham, our forefather, do? He went and invited all of the great men of that generation, and Sarah, our foremother, invited their wives. Each and every one of the wives brought her child with her but did not bring her wet nurse. And a miracle occurred to Sarah, our foremother, and her breasts were opened like two springs, and she nursed all of these children. And still those people were gossiping and saying to each other: Even if Sarah, at ninety years of age, can give birth, can Abraham, at one hundred years of age, father a child? Immediately, the countenance of Isaac’s face transformed and appeared exactly like that of Abraham. Everyone exclaimed and said: “Abraham fathered Isaac” (Genesis 25:19).
Prayer of the Righteous Are Like Pitchforks

Rabbi Yitzḥak said: For what reason were our forefathers initially infertile? Because the Holy One, Blessed be He, desires the prayers of the righteous, and He therefore wanted them to pray for children. Similarly, Rabbi Yitzḥak said: Why are the prayers of the righteous compared to a pitchfork [eter], as in the verse: “And He let Himself be entreated [vaye’ater]”? This indicates that just as this pitchfork turns over produce from one place to another, so the prayer of the righteous turns over the attributes of the Holy One, Blessed be He, from the attribute of rage to the attribute of mercy. Rabbi Ami said: Abraham and Sarah were originally tumtumin, people whose sexual organs are concealed and not functional, as it is stated: “Look to the rock

He placed them over her shoulder, together with the child, and sent her away. And she wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. (15) When the water was gone from the skin, she left the child under one of the bushes, (16) and went and sat down at a distance, a bowshot away; for she thought, “Let me not look on as the child dies.” And sitting thus afar, she burst into tears. (17) God heard the cry of the boy, and an angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heeded the cry of the boy where he is. (18) Come, lift up the boy and hold him by the hand, for I will make a great nation of him.” (19) Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. She went and filled the skin with water, and let the boy drink. (20) God was with the boy and he grew up; he dwelt in the wilderness and became a bowman. (21) He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother got a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

Sarah's Prophetic Voice
(א) שמע בקולה. לָמַדְנוּ שֶׁהָיָה אַבְרָהָם טָפֵל לְשָׂרָה בִּנְבִיאוּת:
(1) שמע בקולה HEARKEN UNTO HER VOICE — we may infer that Abraham was inferior to Sarah in respect of prophecy (Exodus Rabbah 1:1).
Competition
(א) מצחק - שכבר גדל הרבה ולא רצתה להשהותו עוד פן ירצה להחזיק בירושת אביו עם יצחק.
(1) מצחק, in the meantime Ishmael was already 16 years old. Sarah did not want him to remain in the same household any longer so that he would not get ideas about sharing in the inheritance with Yitzchok.

Ishmael Discovers that his Father Still Loves Him

Pirkei De Rabbi Eliezer 30;

“And Abraham rose up early in the morning and sent her away” (Gen. 21:14). Abraham took a wheeled water tub and tied it to Hagar’s loins so that it would be pulled behind her, in order that whenever Abraham wished to see his son Ishmael, he might readily make out the direction in which Hagar and Ishmael had gone. Presently Ishmael settled in the wilderness of Paran and took for himself a wife from the plains of Moab- her name was Aissa. At the end of three years, Abraham went to see his son Ishmael in the wilderness of Paran, after first swearing to Sarah that he would not dismount from his camel at the place where Ishmael was living. Abraham reached there at midday, found Ishmael’s wife, and asked her, “Where is Ishmael?” She replied, “He and his mother went to bring some fruits and brooms from the wilderness.” Abraham said, “Give me a little water and a little bread, for I am weary from the journey through the wilderness.” She replied, “No bread, no water.” Abraham said, “When your husband Ishmael returns, tell him, “An old man from the land of Canaan came to see you and said to tell you, ‘The household of this house is not in good repair.’” When Ishmael returned, his wife gave him the message- where upon he divorced her. Then his mother sent for a woman from her father’s house in the land of Egypt. Her name was Fatima, and Ishmael took her as her wife. At the end of another three years, Abraham went again to see his son Ishmael, after once more swearing to Sarah that he would not dismount from the camel at the place where Ishmael lived. He reached there at midday, found Ishmael’s wife, and asked her, “Where is Ishmael?” She replied, “He and his mother have gone to graze the camels in the wilderness.” He said, “give me a little bread and a little water, for I am weary from the journey through the wilderness.” She brought these out and gave them to him. Then Abraham entreated the Holy One in his son’s behalf , and Ishmael’s house was filled with all manner of good things. When Ishmael came back, his wife told him what had happened. Then Ishmael realized that his father still loved him."
