Shabbat Parashat Vayeitzei 5784
In extension of the merit of my mother, my mentor,
The few verses of this brief psalm contain the most profound truths that any mortal lips were ever privileged to utter concerning the ways of God in the history of man.
It is taught in a baraita that Rabbi Yehuda said in the name of Rabbi Akiva: On the first day of the week, Sunday, what psalm would the Levites recite? The psalm beginning with the phrase: “The earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness” (Psalms 24:1) because A) He acquired the world and B) transferred it to man, andC) rulesin His world.
"On the first day of the week, they would say": A) "The earth is the Lord's and its fullness ..." (Psalms 24:1) - because he acquired. B) And Scripture continues "Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord? ... He that has clean hands ..." (24:3-4) - this indicates that he transferred. C) And Scripture there continues "... and the King of glory shall come in. Who ..." (24:7-10) - this indicates that He rules in His world alone. (My translation.)

TO DO HIS WORK — Rab and Samuel differ as to what this means. One holds that it means, his actual house-work; the other that it means to associate with her, but a vision of his father’s face appeared to him and he resisted temptation and did not sin as is stated in Treatise Sotah 36b.

(1) The two messengers arrived in Sodom in the evening, as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to greet them and, bowing low with his face to the ground,

(6) And Moshe and Aharon said to all the children of Yisra᾽el, At evening you shall know that the Lord has brought you out from the land of Miżrayim: (7)
and in the morning, you shall see the glory of the Lord when he hears your murmurings against the Lord: and what are we, that you murmur against us? ... (11) And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying, (12) I have heard the murmurings of the children of Yisra᾽el: speak to them, saying, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God. (13) And it came to pass, that at evening the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp. (14) And when the layer of dew was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a fine flaky substance, as fine as the hoar frost on the ground.
Just as כבד weight, gives us the idea of the material, mass or content of an object, so כבוד designates the spiritual weight, the impression that the mental and moral worth of a person makes on us, and by which we estimate his mental and moral worth. Applied to God, כבוד is the impression, the trail which His intervention in earthly affairs leaves behind it, from which one gets an intimation of His Presence and His Greatness. ... But nowhere is the impression of this Presence greater and its effect more overwhelming than where a condition of hopeless desolation, a bleak desert, is changed to paradise-like conditions, into a fruitful pasture, where the sudden contrast makes the impression so deep, So here: This evening you will merely get proof that God is your leader and that He hears every word you utter. But the morn will bring you a sight that will give you an intimation of the whole greatness of your God. The desert which yo your utter despair, now stares you in the face with its hopeless desolation, that desert will you see all at once transformed by the Hand of God miraculously into a gloriously laden table laid for you, your wives and children.
(2) But Pharaoh said, “Who is ה׳ that I should heed him and let Israel go? I do not know ה׳, nor will I let Israel go.”
(1) The heaven and the earth were finished, and all their array.

(8) And he made the laver of brass, and its pedestal of brass, of the mirrors of the women assembling, who assembled at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
... Everything created in heaven and on earth forms one great צבא, one great host whose centre point is its Creator and Master, its Lord and Leader. Everything is place on its post by Him. Everything has to do its part on its place with the powers given to it to accomplish its allotted task. The plan of the whole rests in the mind of the Leader ...
