Tu b'Av Musical Set List: Comfort (return) my people נחמו עמי
(כב) חַֽסְדֵ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ כִּ֣י לֹא־תָ֔מְנוּ כִּ֥י לֹא־כָל֖וּ רַחֲמָֽיו׃ {ס} (כג) חֲדָשִׁים֙ לַבְּקָרִ֔ים רַבָּ֖ה אֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃ {ס} (כד) חֶלְקִ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ אָמְרָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֔י עַל־כֵּ֖ן אוֹחִ֥יל לֽוֹ׃ {ס} (כה) ט֤וֹב יְהֹוָה֙ לְקֹוָ֔ו לְנֶ֖פֶשׁ תִּדְרְשֶֽׁנּוּ׃ {ס} (כו) ט֤וֹב וְיָחִיל֙ וְדוּמָ֔ם לִתְשׁוּעַ֖ת יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
(22) The kindness of the LORD has not ended,
His mercies are not spent.
(23) They are renewed every morning—
Ample is Your grace!
(24) “The LORD is my portion,” I say with full heart;
Therefore will I hope in Him.
(25) The LORD is good to those who trust in Him,
To the one who seeks Him;
(26) It is good to wait patiently
Till rescue comes from the LORD.
(א) נַחֲמ֥וּ נַחֲמ֖וּ עַמִּ֑י יֹאמַ֖ר אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ (ב) דַּבְּר֞וּ עַל־לֵ֤ב יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ וְקִרְא֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֤י מָֽלְאָה֙ צְבָאָ֔הּ כִּ֥י נִרְצָ֖ה עֲוֺנָ֑הּ כִּ֤י לָֽקְחָה֙ מִיַּ֣ד יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּפְלַ֖יִם בְּכׇל־חַטֹּאתֶֽיהָ׃ {ס}
(1) Comfort, oh comfort My people,
Says your God.
(2) Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
And declare to her
That her term of service is over,
That her iniquity is expiated;
For she has received at the hand of GOD’s hand
Double for all her sins.
(א) עַ֥ל נַהֲר֨וֹת ׀ בָּבֶ֗ל שָׁ֣ם יָ֭שַׁבְנוּ גַּם־בָּכִ֑ינוּ בְּ֝זׇכְרֵ֗נוּ אֶת־צִיּֽוֹן׃
(1) By the rivers of Babylon,
there we sat,
sat and wept,
as we thought of Zion.
(ה) אִֽם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵ֥ךְ יְֽרוּשָׁלָ֗͏ִם תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח יְמִינִֽי׃ (ו) תִּדְבַּֽק־לְשׁוֹנִ֨י ׀ לְחִכִּי֮ אִם־לֹ֢א אֶ֫זְכְּרֵ֥כִי אִם־לֹ֣א אַ֭עֲלֶה אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ֑͏ִם עַ֝֗ל רֹ֣אשׁ שִׂמְחָתִֽי׃
(5) If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand wither;bOthers “forget its cunning.”
(6) let my tongue stick to my palate
if I cease to think of you,
if I do not keep Jerusalem in memory
even at my happiest hour.
(ג) ק֣וֹל קוֹרֵ֔א בַּמִּדְבָּ֕ר פַּנּ֖וּ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהֹוָ֑ה יַשְּׁרוּ֙ בָּעֲרָבָ֔ה מְסִלָּ֖ה לֵאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
(3) A voice rings out:
“Clear in the desert
A road for GOD !
Level in the wilderness
A highway for our God!
(ו) ק֚וֹל אֹמֵ֣ר קְרָ֔א וְאָמַ֖ר מָ֣ה אֶקְרָ֑א כׇּל־הַבָּשָׂ֣ר חָצִ֔יר וְכׇל־חַסְדּ֖וֹ כְּצִ֥יץ הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ (ז) יָבֵ֤שׁ חָצִיר֙ נָ֣בֵֽל צִ֔יץ כִּ֛י ר֥וּחַ יְהֹוָ֖ה נָ֣שְׁבָה בּ֑וֹ אָכֵ֥ן חָצִ֖יר הָעָֽם׃ (ח) יָבֵ֥שׁ חָצִ֖יר נָ֣בֵֽל צִ֑יץ וּדְבַר־אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יָק֥וּם לְעוֹלָֽם׃ {ס}
(6) A voice rings out: “Proclaim!”
Another asks,bAnother asks 1QIsᵃ and Septuagint read “And I asked.” “What shall I proclaim?”
“All flesh is grass,
All its goodness like flowers of the field:
(7) Grass withers, flowers fade
When the breath of GOD’s breath blows on them.
Indeed, people are but grass:
(8) Grass withers, flowers fade—
But the word of our God is always fulfilled!”
(כט) נֹתֵ֥ן לַיָּעֵ֖ף כֹּ֑חַ וּלְאֵ֥ין אוֹנִ֖ים עׇצְמָ֥ה יַרְבֶּֽה׃ (ל) וְיִעֲפ֥וּ נְעָרִ֖ים וְיִגָ֑עוּ וּבַחוּרִ֖ים כָּשׁ֥וֹל יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ׃ (לא) וְקוֹיֵ֤ יְהֹוָה֙ יַחֲלִ֣יפוּ כֹ֔חַ יַעֲל֥וּ אֵ֖בֶר כַּנְּשָׁרִ֑ים יָר֙וּצוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֔עוּ יֵלְכ֖וּ וְלֹ֥א יִיעָֽפוּ׃ {ס}
(29) Who gives strength to the weary,
Fresh vigor to the spent.
(30) Youths may grow faint and weary,
And young men stumble and fall;
(31) But they who trust in GOD shall renew their strength
As eagles grow new plumes:hAs eagles grow new plumes Alluding to a popular belief that eagles regain their youth when they molt; cf. Ps. 103.5.
They shall run and not grow weary,
They shall march and not grow faint.
