- What is Sefaria?
- At Sefaria we are building an extensive library of Jewish texts and the tools to go with it.
- Sefaria was launched in 2013 and the library has grown to over 250 million words.
- Usership continues to grow. Sefaria is currently being visited by approximately 500,000 individual users a month!
- Finding texts on Sefaria
- Sefaria provides you with easy access to a vast virtual library of works which span thousands of years and locations. Texts are linked to one another so that you can easily move between different sources.
- You can search for a text in the search bar (e.g. "Genesis 2:1") or visit the library page to explore the Sefaria library.
- Keep up with your learning schedule (weekly Torah portion, daf yomi, ect.) on the Learning Schedule page.
- Using the resource panel
- As you are reading a text, you can click on a passage to bring up the resource panel. This panel contains connected texts, sheets, topics, web pages, audio, and more.
- Using Sefaria's Topics feature
- With Sefaria’s Topics feature, you can search a topic keyword and Sefaria will show you the most relevant sources, user-created sheets, and related topics — all in one place.
- You can access Topics in a variety of ways:
- Find popular topic categories in the Topics section of the homepage.
- Type a keyword or topic into the search bar and find the result with # before it to navigate to the topic’s page.
- Learn about the text you are reading
- Read short descriptions of each text as you click through the library page.
- Read detailed descriptions in the "About This Text" section in the resource panel. Information includes the author's name, source of the text, and license details.
- Set the way that you would like to view the text in the Aא menu. Choices include language, layout, font size, and vocalization, if applicable.
- Sheets are created by Sefaria users and draw together sources, outside texts, and media.
- Sheets can always be edited, they can be collaborative, and they can be made public to share with the Sefaria community.
- You can access sheets in a variety of ways:
- Click on a passage to bring up the resource panel. From there, click on "Sheets" to access all of the public sheets connected to the text that you are looking at.
- Find sheets on Topics pages.
