Learning Tip #7: Who is that Rabbi?
Learning about the rabbis who are mentioned in a piece of Mishnah or Talmud adds to the overall understanding of the text. Using the built-in Biblical, Mishnaic, and Talmudic biographies is convenient for learners and helps to develop good learning habits.
How can I learn more about the rabbis and Tanakh personalities named in the Mishnah, Babylonian Talmud and Jerusalem Talmud?
  • Click on the text to open the resource panel.
  • Click the name of the personality.
*Note: This feature is not yet available on the Sefaria app.
Why do some entries say "No Description Known?"
Although we have biographies on hundreds of rabbis and Tanakh personalities, we don't have them all. If you see that message, you have found someone without a biography on Sefaria.
How do I find even more information about a rabbi?
Click on the rabbi's name in the resource panel to open the rabbi's topics page. There you will find a list of sources where the rabbi is quoted, a list of his students, and a list of teachers - all linked to the Sefaria library.
What will I learn about a Tanakh personality?
Click on the person's name in the resource panel to open their topics page. You will find a list of sources and sheets about the person and related topics.
