Our story begins a few chapters ago with Parshat Terumah and picks up after the Golden Calf. Here we are now in Parshat Vayakel-Pekudai. The instructions concerning the building of the Mishkan (the sanctuary in the desert) are given and carried out willingly by the entire community. The project is led by Bezalel and Oholiab, two master architects and designers who are endowed with chochmat lev (wisdom of the heart/inspiration) and skill in every from of artistry and craft. Everyone in the community brings of their own offerings to build the Mishkan into a glorious, beautiful, vibrant place for ritual and the presence of God.
And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.

(5) Take from among you gifts to the LORD; everyone whose heart so moves them shall bring gifts for the LORD: gold, silver, and copper; (6) blue, purple, and crimson yarns, fine linen, and goats’ hair; (7) tanned ram skins, dolphin skins, and acacia wood; (8) oil for lighting, spices for the anointing oil and for the aromatic incense; (9) lapis lazuli and other stones for setting, for the ephod and the breastpiece. (10) And let all among you who are chacham-lev (skilled, lit. wise-hearted, inspired) come and make all that the LORD has commanded:

1. Take a few moments to write down:
What inspires you?
What are your biggest strengths?
What are your passions?
How do you express yourself creatively?
2. Underline or circle any words that jump out at your or that feel significant. This is how you begin to tap into your chochmat halev. Write the one or two most important words or phrases here:
3. When do you feel your chochmat halev? How might you nurture it? How might you offer it in your life or to your community?
And everyone who lifted up their heart and everyone whose spirit moved them came, bringing to the Divine Presence their offering for the work of the Tent of Meeting and for all its rituals and for the sacred garments.
All of them, all whose hearts moved them, all who would make an elevation offering of gold to the Divine Presence, came bringing brooches, earrings, rings, and pendants—gold objects of all kinds.
Thus the Israelites, all the whose hearts moved them to bring anything for the work that the Divine Presence, through Moses, had commanded to be done, brought it willing for the Divine Presence.

(1) Let, then, Bezalel and Oholiab and all the chochmat-lev persons whom the LORD has endowed with chochma (wisdom/inspiration) and tvunah (skill) to perform expertly all the tasks connected with the service of the sanctuary carry out all that the LORD has commanded. (2) Moses then called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wisehearted/inspired person whom the LORD had endowed with chochma, everyone who excelled in ability, to undertake the task and carry it out. (3) They took over from Moses all the gifts that the Israelites had brought, to carry out the tasks connected with the service of the sanctuary. But when these continued to bring offerings willing to him morning after morning, (4) all the artisans who were engaged in the tasks of the sanctuary came, each from the task upon which he was engaged, (5) and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than is needed for the tasks entailed in the work that the LORD has commanded to be done.” (6) Moses thereupon had this proclamation made throughout the camp: “Let no one make further effort toward gifts for the sanctuary!” So the people stopped bringing.
(42) Just as the LORD had commanded Moses, so the Israelites had done all the work. (43) And when Moses saw that they had performed all the tasks—as the LORD had commanded, so they had done—Moses blessed them.
AND MOSES BLESSED THEM — He said to them “May it be the will of God that His Shechinah rest upon the work of your hands; ‘and let the beauty/pleasantness of the Lord, our God, be upon us; let the work of our hands prosper, O prosper the work of our hands! Psalm 90:17)
1. How did Moses bless them? What words of blessing were offered?
2. What blessing(s) have you received for your unique offerings? What blessing would you want to recieve?
3. What blessing would you give to the community upon the completion of this incredible project in which everyone gave willingly (and more than was needed!) of their unique gifts and talents?
