(ג) פועה. זו מרים שפועה ומדברת והוגה לולד כדרך הנשים המפיסות תינוק הבוכה פועה לשון צעקה, כמו כיולדה אפעה:
(3) This is Miriam, due to her crying and cooing to the newborn, in the manner of women who appease crying children.
(א) וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אִ֖ישׁ מִבֵּ֣ית לֵוִ֑י וַיִּקַּ֖ח אֶת־בַּת־לֵוִֽי׃
(יט) וילך איש מבית לוי - להיכן הלך? אמר רבי יהודה בר רבי זבינא: שהלך בעצת בתו
(19) "And there went a man of the house of Levi" - Where did he go? R. Judah b. Zebina said: "He went with his daughter's advice."
(א) ויקח את בת לוי. פרוש היה ממנה מפני גזרת פרעה (וחזר ולקחה וזהו וילך, שהלך בעצת בתו שאמרה לו גזרתך קשה משל פרעה, אם פרעה גזר על הזכרים, ואתה גם כן על הנקבות)
(1) Your decree is harsher than פַּרְעֹה. Whereas Pharaoh issued a decree [only] against the males, you [issued a decree] against the females as well [for none will be born]
(7) Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter: ‘Shall I go and call thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?’
(א) וַתְּדַבֵּ֨ר מִרְיָ֤ם וְאַהֲרֹן֙ בְּמֹשֶׁ֔ה עַל־אֹד֛וֹת הָאִשָּׁ֥ה הַכֻּשִׁ֖ית אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָקָ֑ח כִּֽי־אִשָּׁ֥ה כֻשִׁ֖ית לָקָֽח׃
(ב) ותדבר מרים ואהרן. היא פתחה בדבור תחלה
