The people gather against Moshe and Aharon, they turn to the Ohel Moed and suddenly, it's enveloped by Hashem's Presence, so they repair thence. Then Hashem says to Moshe and Aharon...
Lift-off
הֵרֹמּוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל פְּנֵיהֶם.
’Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.’ And they fell upon their faces.
We already know how Moshe is likely to respond to Hashem's directive to distance himself from the people so that Hashem can destroy them - he's not going to be too "cooperative". Here are some previous instances when Moshe took the part of the people "against" Hashem:
At the Golden Calf
וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה אֶת פְּנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו וַיֹּאמֶר לָמָה יְהוָה יֶחֱרֶה אַפְּךָ בְּעַמֶּךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּכֹחַ גָּדוֹל וּבְיָד חֲזָקָה.
And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said: ‘LORD, why doth Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, that Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
At the Spies
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל יְהוָה וְשָׁמְעוּ מִצְרַיִם כִּי הֶעֱלִיתָ בְכֹחֲךָ אֶת הָעָם הַזֶּה מִקִּרְבּוֹ.
And Moses said unto the LORD: ‘When the Egyptians shall hear—for Thou broughtest up this people in Thy might from among them—
Notice how Moshe responds to the threat of destruction hovering over the people by talking, pleading, arguing with Hashem. That's not the case here, as we'll see.
Another thing to notice: Hashem commanded Moshe to "get you up from" the people. He had actually already directed Moshe and Aharon to put distance between themselves and complainers/attackers:
הִבָּדְלוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאַכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע.
’Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.’
Compare the verbs used in the primary source and this secondary source. One indicates lateral movement, the other indicates vertical movement. Might be significant...!
