(9) Rabbi Bisni and Rabbi Acha and Rabbi Yochanan in the name of Rabbi Meir say: the soul fills the entire body, and during the time when a person sleeps it ascends and draws life for him from above.

“Into Your hand I entrust my spirit etc"

Usually, in the world, when you leave an object for safekeeping with someone [during that period] he muddles them up with one another. But the Holy One is not like that, rather He is the True God (Jeremiah 10:10)

For could it happen that a person could rise in the morning and look for his soul and not find it?! Or find his soul located with someone else and someone’s else’s soul with him?

Said Rabi Alexandri with a flesh-and-blood guardian, when you leave something new, he returns it to you worn and used. But with the Holy One, when you entrust into His hands [something that is] worn and used, He returns it to you new!

For you know that a labourer does his work in the day, and his spirit becomes weary and worn. And when he goes to sleep he is tired. But his spirit is at peace and kept safely with God. And at dawn it returns to his body as a new creation, as it says They are renewed every morning— Ample is Your grace! (Lamentations 3:23)
