Chanting Kabbalat Shabbat

שָלוֹם שָלוֹם לָרָחוֹק וְלַקָרוֹב אָמַר יְיָ.

Shalom: shalom to those who are far off, shalom to those who are near, says Adonai.

Shalom shalom la-rachok, v'la-karov amar Adonai.

(א) ידיד נפש אב הרחמן

(ב) משוך עבדך אל רצונך

(ג) ירוץ עבדך כמו איָל

(ד) ישתחוה מול הדרך

(ה) כי יערב לו ידידותך

(ו) מנופת צוף וכל טעם.

(1) My soul's beloved, merciful father,

(2) Draw your surrendered to your will rendered.

(3) Your surrendered will run like a gazelle,

(4) He will bow before your splendor.

(5) For to him, your love is sweeter,

(6) Than the dripping honeycomb, and any taste at all.

1) Yedid nefesh av harachaman, 2) M'shoch av'dach el r'tzonach.

3) Yarutz avdach k'mo ayal, 4) Yishtachave mul hadarach.

5) Ki ye'erav lo y'didutach, 6) Minofet Tzuf v'chol ta'am.

אֲשֶׁר־ל֣וֹ הַ֭יָּם וְה֣וּא עָשָׂ֑הוּ וְ֝יַבֶּ֗שֶׁת יָדָ֥יו יָצָֽרוּ׃

(5) His is the sea, He made it; and the land, which His hands fashioned.

Asher lo hayam v'hu asa hu. Vayabeshet yadav yatzaru.

(ו) הוֹד־וְהָדָ֥ר לְפָנָ֑יו עֹ֥ז וְ֝תִפְאֶ֗רֶת בְּמִקְדָּשֽׁוֹ׃

(6) Glory and majesty are before Him; strength and splendor are in His temple.

Hod v'hadar l'fanav, oz v'tiferet b'mikdasho.

(יא) א֭וֹר זָרֻ֣עַ לַצַּדִּ֑יק וּֽלְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵ֥ב שִׂמְחָֽה׃
(11) Light is sown for the righteous, radiance for the upright.
(ז) יִרְעַ֣ם הַ֭יָּם וּמְלֹא֑וֹ תֵּ֝בֵ֗ל וְיֹ֣שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃ (ח) נְהָר֥וֹת יִמְחֲאוּ־כָ֑ף יַ֝֗חַד הָרִ֥ים יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃
(7) Let the sea and all within it thunder, the world and its inhabitants; (8) let the rivers clap their hands, the mountains sing joyously together
(ז) בְּעַמּ֣וּד עָ֭נָן יְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם שָׁמְר֥וּ עֵ֝דֹתָ֗יו וְחֹ֣ק נָֽתַן־לָֽמוֹ׃
(7) He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they obeyed His decrees, the law He gave them.

B'Amud anan y'daber aleihem.

(ג) ק֥וֹל יְהוָ֗ה עַל־הַ֫מָּ֥יִם אֵֽל־הַכָּב֥וֹד הִרְעִ֑ים יְ֝הוָ֗ה עַל־מַ֥יִם רַבִּֽים׃

(3) The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over the mighty waters.
(ט) ק֤וֹל יְהוָ֨ה ׀ יְחוֹלֵ֣ל אַיָּלוֹת֮ וַֽיֶּחֱשֹׂ֪ף יְעָ֫ר֥וֹת וּבְהֵיכָל֑וֹ כֻּ֝לּ֗וֹ אֹמֵ֥ר כָּבֽוֹד׃
(9) the voice of the LORD causes hinds to calve, and strips forests bare; while in His temple all say “Glory!”

(א) לְכָה דוֹדִי לִקְרַאת כַּלָּה

(ב) פְּנֵי שַׁבָּת נְקַבְּלָה

(1) Come, lover, to welcome the bride

(2) The face of Shabbat we will receive.

Lecha Dodi, likrat kalah, p'nei shabbat, n'kabelah.

Final verse, Bo'i kalah... p'nei shabbat, n'kabelah.

(ו) מַה־גָּדְל֣וּ מַעֲשֶׂ֣יךָ יְהוָ֑ה מְ֝אֹ֗ד עָמְק֥וּ מַחְשְׁבֹתֶֽיךָ׃

(6) How great are Your works, O LORD, how very subtle Your designs!

Mah gadlu ma'asecha Yah. M'od amku mach'shevotecha.

(ד) מִקֹּל֨וֹת ׀ מַ֤יִם רַבִּ֗ים אַדִּירִ֣ים מִשְׁבְּרֵי־יָ֑ם אַדִּ֖יר בַּמָּר֣וֹם יְהוָֽה׃
(4) Above the thunder of the mighty waters, more majestic than the breakers of the sea is the LORD, majestic on high.
