(1) Abraham was now old, advanced in years, and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. (2) And Abraham said to the senior servant of his household, who had charge of all that he owned, “Put your hand under my thigh (3) and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I dwell, (4) but will go to the land of my birth and get a wife for my son Isaac.”

(1) Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD. They said: I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; Horse and driver He has hurled into the sea. (2) The LORD is my strength and might; He is become my deliverance. This is my God and I will enshrine Him; The God of my father, and I will exalt Him. (3) The LORD, the Warrior— LORD is His name! (4) Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; And the pick of his officers Are drowned in the Sea of Reeds. (5) The deeps covered them; They went down into the depths like a stone. (6) Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the foe! (7) In Your great triumph You break Your opponents; You send forth Your fury, it consumes them like straw. (8) At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up, The floods stood straight like a wall; The deeps froze in the heart of the sea. (9) The foe said, “I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall have its fill of them. I will bare my sword— My hand shall subdue them.” (10) You made Your wind blow, the sea covered them; They sank like lead in the majestic waters. (11) Who is like You, O LORD, among the celestials; Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in splendor, working wonders! (12) You put out Your right hand, The earth swallowed them. (13) In Your love You lead the people You redeemed; In Your strength You guide them to Your holy abode. (14) The peoples hear, they tremble; Agony grips the dwellers in Philistia. (15) Now are the clans of Edom dismayed; The tribes of Moab—trembling grips them; All the dwellers in Canaan are aghast. (16) Terror and dread descend upon them; Through the might of Your arm they are still as stone— Till Your people cross over, O LORD, Till Your people cross whom You have ransomed. (17) You will bring them and plant them in Your own mountain, The place You made to dwell in, O LORD, The sanctuary, O LORD, which Your hands established. (18) The LORD will reign for ever and ever!

(1) If his offering is a sacrifice of well-being— If he offers of the herd, whether a male or a female, he shall bring before the LORD one without blemish. (2) He shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering and slaughter it at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting; and Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall dash the blood against all sides of the altar. (3) He shall then present from the sacrifice of well-being, as an offering by fire to the LORD, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is about the entrails; (4) the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, that is at the loins; and the protuberance on the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys. (5) Aaron’s sons shall turn these into smoke on the altar, with the burnt offering which is upon the wood that is on the fire, as an offering by fire, of pleasing odor to the LORD. (6) And if his offering for a sacrifice of well-being to the LORD is from the flock, whether a male or a female, he shall offer one without blemish. (7) If he presents a sheep as his offering, he shall bring it before the LORD (8) and lay his hand upon the head of his offering. It shall be slaughtered before the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron’s sons shall dash its blood against all sides of the altar. (9) He shall then present, as an offering by fire to the LORD, the fat from the sacrifice of well-being: the whole broad tail, which shall be removed close to the backbone; the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is about the entrails; (10) the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, that is at the loins; and the protuberance on the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys. (11) This is the ritual of the sacrifice of well-being that one may offer to the LORD: (12) If he offers it for thanksgiving, he shall offer together with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes with oil mixed in, unleavened wafers spread with oil, and cakes of choice flour with oil mixed in, well soaked. (13) This offering, with cakes of leavened bread added, he shall offer along with his thanksgiving sacrifice of well-being. (14) Out of this he shall offer one of each kind as a gift to the LORD; it shall go to the priest who dashes the blood of the offering of well-being. (15) And the flesh of his thanksgiving sacrifice of well-being shall be eaten on the day that it is offered; none of it shall be set aside until morning. (16) If, however, the sacrifice he offers is a votive or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice, and what is left of it shall be eaten on the morrow. (17) What is then left of the flesh of the sacrifice shall be consumed in fire on the third day. (18) If any of the flesh of his sacrifice of well-being is eaten on the third day, it shall not be acceptable; it shall not count for him who offered it. It is an offensive thing, and the person who eats of it shall bear his guilt. (19) Flesh that touches anything unclean shall not be eaten; it shall be consumed in fire. As for other flesh, only he who is clean may eat such flesh. (20) But the person who, in a state of uncleanness, eats flesh from the LORD’s sacrifices of well-being, that person shall be cut off from his kin. (21) When a person touches anything unclean, be it human uncleanness or an unclean animal or any unclean creature, and eats flesh from the LORD’s sacrifices of well-being, that person shall be cut off from his kin. (22) And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: (23) Speak to the Israelite people thus: You shall eat no fat of ox or sheep or goat. (24) Fat from animals that died or were torn by beasts may be put to any use, but you must not eat it. (25) If anyone eats the fat of animals from which offerings by fire may be made to the LORD, the person who eats it shall be cut off from his kin. (26) And you must not consume any blood, either of bird or of animal, in any of your settlements. (27) Anyone who eats blood shall be cut off from his kin. (28) And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: (29) Speak to the Israelite people thus: The offering to the LORD from a sacrifice of well-being must be presented by him who offers his sacrifice of well-being to the LORD: (30) his own hands shall present the LORD’s offerings by fire. He shall present the fat with the breast, the breast to be elevated as an elevation offering before the LORD; (31) the priest shall turn the fat into smoke on the altar, and the breast shall go to Aaron and his sons. (32) And the right thigh from your sacrifices of well-being you shall present to the priest as a gift; (33) he from among Aaron’s sons who offers the blood and the fat of the offering of well-being shall get the right thigh as his portion. (34) For I have taken the breast of elevation offering and the thigh of gift offering from the Israelites, from their sacrifices of well-being, and given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as their due from the Israelites for all time. (35) Those shall be the perquisites of Aaron and the perquisites of his sons from the LORD’s offerings by fire, once they have been inducted to serve the LORD as priests; (36) these the LORD commanded to be given them, once they had been anointed, as a due from the Israelites for all time throughout the ages. (37) Such are the rituals of the burnt offering, the meal offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the offering of ordination, and the sacrifice of well-being, (38) with which the LORD charged Moses on Mount Sinai, when He commanded that the Israelites present their offerings to the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai.

(1) The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: (2) Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: When you enter the land that I am giving you to settle in, (3) and would present an offering by fire to the LORD from the herd or from the flock, be it burnt offering or sacrifice, in fulfillment of a vow explicitly uttered, or as a freewill offering, or at your fixed occasions, producing an odor pleasing to the LORD: (4) The person who presents the offering to the LORD shall bring as a meal offering: a tenth of a measure of choice flour with a quarter of a hin of oil mixed in. (5) You shall also offer, with the burnt offering or the sacrifice, a quarter of a hin of wine as a libation for each sheep. (6) In the case of a ram, you shall present as a meal offering: two-tenths of a measure of choice flour with a third of a hin of oil mixed in; (7) and a third of a hin of wine as a libation—as an offering of pleasing odor to the LORD. (8) And if it is an animal from the herd that you offer to the LORD as a burnt offering or as a sacrifice, in fulfillment of a vow explicitly uttered or as an offering of well-being, (9) there shall be offered a meal offering along with the animal: three-tenths of a measure of choice flour with half a hin of oil mixed in; (10) and as libation you shall offer half a hin of wine—these being offerings by fire of pleasing odor to the LORD. (11) Thus shall be done with each ox, with each ram, and with any sheep or goat, (12) as many as you offer; you shall do thus with each one, as many as there are. (13) Every citizen, when presenting an offering by fire of pleasing odor to the LORD, shall do so with them. (14) And when, throughout the ages, a stranger who has taken up residence with you, or one who lives among you, would present an offering by fire of pleasing odor to the LORD—as you do, so shall it be done by (15) the rest of the congregation. There shall be one law for you and for the resident stranger; it shall be a law for all time throughout the ages. You and the stranger shall be alike before the LORD; (16) the same ritual and the same rule shall apply to you and to the stranger who resides among you.

(1) Now, if you obey the LORD your God, to observe faithfully all His commandments which I enjoin upon you this day, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. (2) All these blessings shall come upon you and take effect, if you will but heed the word of the LORD your God: (3) Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the country. (4) Blessed shall be the issue of your womb, the produce of your soil, and the offspring of your cattle, the calving of your herd and the lambing of your flock. (5) Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. (6) Blessed shall you be in your comings and blessed shall you be in your goings. (7) The LORD will put to rout before you the enemies who attack you; they will march out against you by a single road, but flee from you by many roads. (8) The LORD will ordain blessings for you upon your barns and upon all your undertakings: He will bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. (9) The LORD will establish you as His holy people, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. (10) And all the peoples of the earth shall see that the LORD’s name is proclaimed over you, and they shall stand in fear of you. (11) The LORD will give you abounding prosperity in the issue of your womb, the offspring of your cattle, and the produce of your soil in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to assign to you. (12) The LORD will open for you His bounteous store, the heavens, to provide rain for your land in season and to bless all your undertakings. You will be creditor to many nations, but debtor to none. (13) The LORD will make you the head, not the tail; you will always be at the top and never at the bottom—if only you obey and faithfully observe the commandments of the LORD your God that I enjoin upon you this day,

(1) This is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, bade the Israelites farewell before he died. (2) He said: The LORD came from Sinai; He shone upon them from Seir; He appeared from Mount Paran, And approached from Ribeboth-kodesh, Lightning flashing at them from His right. (3) Lover, indeed, of the people, Their hallowed are all in Your hand. They followed in Your steps, Accepting Your pronouncements, (4) When Moses charged us with the Teaching As the heritage of the congregation of Jacob. (5) Then He became King in Jeshurun, When the heads of the people assembled, The tribes of Israel together. (6) May Reuben live and not die, Though few be his numbers. (7) And this he said of Judah: Hear, O LORD the voice of Judah And restore him to his people. Though his own hands strive for him, Help him against his foes. (8) And of Levi he said: Let Your Thummim and Urim Be with Your faithful one, Whom You tested at Massah, Challenged at the waters of Meribah; (9) Who said of his father and mother, “I consider them not.” His brothers he disregarded, Ignored his own children. Your precepts alone they observed, And kept Your covenant. (10) They shall teach Your laws to Jacob And Your instructions to Israel. They shall offer You incense to savor And whole-offerings on Your altar. (11) Bless, O LORD, his substance, And favor his undertakings. Smite the loins of his foes; Let his enemies rise no more. (12) Of Benjamin he said: Beloved of the LORD, He rests securely beside Him; Ever does He protect him, As he rests between His shoulders. (13) And of Joseph he said: Blessed of the LORD be his land With the bounty of dew from heaven, And of the deep that couches below; (14) With the bounteous yield of the sun, And the bounteous crop of the moons; (15) With the best from the ancient mountains, And the bounty of hills immemorial; (16) With the bounty of earth and its fullness, And the favor of the Presence in the Bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph, On the crown of the elect of his brothers. (17) Like a firstling bull in his majesty, He has horns like the horns of the wild-ox; With them he gores the peoples, The ends of the earth one and all. These are the myriads of Ephraim, Those are the thousands of Manasseh. (18) And of Zebulun he said: Rejoice, O Zebulun, on your journeys, And Issachar, in your tents. (19) They invite their kin to the mountain, Where they offer sacrifices of success. For they draw from the riches of the sea And the hidden hoards of the sand. (20) And of Gad he said: Blessed be He who enlarges Gad! Poised is he like a lion To tear off arm and scalp. (21) He chose for himself the best, For there is the portion of the revered chieftain, Where the heads of the people come. He executed the LORD’s judgments And His decisions for Israel. (22) And of Dan he said: Dan is a lion’s whelp That leaps forth from Bashan. (23) And of Naphtali he said: O Naphtali, sated with favor And full of the LORD’s blessing, Take possession on the west and south. (24) And of Asher he said: Most blessed of sons be Asher; May he be the favorite of his brothers, May he dip his foot in oil. (25) May your doorbolts be iron and copper, And your security last all your days. (26) O Jeshurun, there is none like God, Riding through the heavens to help you, Through the skies in His majesty. (27) The ancient God is a refuge, A support are the arms everlasting. He drove out the enemy before you By His command: Destroy! (28) Thus Israel dwells in safety, Untroubled is Jacob’s abode, In a land of grain and wine, Under heavens dripping dew. (29) O happy Israel! Who is like you, A people delivered by the LORD, Your protecting Shield, your Sword triumphant! Your enemies shall come cringing before you, And you shall tread on their backs.

(1) The word of the LORD came to me, saying, (2) Go proclaim to Jerusalem: Thus said the LORD: I accounted to your favor The devotion of your youth, Your love as a bride— How you followed Me in the wilderness, In a land not sown. (3) Israel was holy to the LORD, The first fruits of His harvest. All who ate of it were held guilty; Disaster befell them —declares the LORD.

(11) Like a partridge hatching what she did not lay, So is one who amasses wealth by unjust means; In the middle of his life it will leave him, And in the end he will be proved a fool. (12) O Throne of Glory exalted from of old, Our Sacred Shrine! (13) O Hope of Israel! O LORD! All who forsake You shall be put to shame, Those in the land who turn from You Shall be doomed men, For they have forsaken the LORD, The Fount of living waters. (14) Heal me, O LORD, and let me be healed; Save me, and let me be saved; For You are my glory.

(1) A psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O divine beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. (2) Ascribe to the LORD the glory of His name; bow down to the LORD, majestic in holiness. (3) The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over the mighty waters. (4) The voice of the LORD is power; the voice of the LORD is majesty; (5) the voice of the LORD breaks cedars; the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon. (6) He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion, like a young wild ox. (7) The voice of the LORD kindles flames of fire; (8) the voice of the LORD convulses the wilderness; the LORD convulses the wilderness of Kadesh; (9) the voice of the LORD causes hinds to calve, and strips forests bare; while in His temple all say “Glory!” (10) The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood; the LORD sits enthroned, king forever. (11) May the LORD grant strength to His people; may the LORD bestow on His people wellbeing.

(1) A psalm of David. A song for the dedication of the House. (2) I extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, and not let my enemies rejoice over me. (3) O LORD, my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. (4) O LORD, You brought me up from Sheol, preserved me from going down into the Pit. (5) O you faithful of the LORD, sing to Him, and praise His holy name. (6) For He is angry but a moment, and when He is pleased there is life. One may lie down weeping at nightfall; but at dawn there are shouts of joy. (7) When I was untroubled, I thought, “I shall never be shaken,” (8) for You, O Lord, when You were pleased, made [me] firm as a mighty mountain. When You hid Your face, I was terrified. (9) I called to You, O LORD; to my Lord I made appeal, (10) “What is to be gained from my death, from my descent into the Pit? Can dust praise You? Can it declare Your faithfulness? (11) Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; O LORD, be my help!” (12) You turned my lament into dancing, you undid my sackcloth and girded me with joy, (13) that [my] whole being might sing hymns to You endlessly; O LORD my God, I will praise You forever.

(1) For the leader; on shoshannim. Of the Korahites. A maskil. A love song. (2) My heart is astir with gracious words; I speak my poem to a king; my tongue is the pen of an expert scribe. (3) You are fairer than all men; your speech is endowed with grace; rightly has God given you an eternal blessing. (4) Gird your sword upon your thigh, O hero, in your splendor and glory; (5) in your glory, win success; ride on in the cause of truth and meekness and right; and let your right hand lead you to awesome deeds. (6) Your arrows, sharpened, [pierce] the breast of the king’s enemies; peoples fall at your feet. (7) Your divine throne is everlasting; your royal scepter is a scepter of equity. (8) You love righteousness and hate wickedness; rightly has God, your God, chosen to anoint you with oil of gladness over all your peers. (9) All your robes [are fragrant] with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from ivoried palaces lutes entertain you. (10) Royal princesses are your favorites; the consort stands at your right hand, decked in gold of Ophir. (11) Take heed, lass, and note, incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house, (12) and let the king be aroused by your beauty; since he is your lord, bow to him. (13) O Tyrian lass, the wealthiest people will court your favor with gifts, (14) goods of all sorts. The royal princess, her dress embroidered with golden mountings, (15) is led inside to the king; maidens in her train, her companions, are presented to you. (16) They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king. (17) Your sons will succeed your ancestors; you will appoint them princes throughout the land. (18) I commemorate your fame for all generations, so peoples will praise you forever and ever.

(1) Praise the LORD, for He is good, His steadfast love is eternal. (2) Let Israel declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.” (3) Let the house of Aaron declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.” (4) Let those who fear the LORD declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.” (5) In distress I called on the LORD; the Lord answered me and brought me relief. (6) The LORD is on my side, I have no fear; what can man do to me? (7) With the LORD on my side as my helper, I will see the downfall of my foes. (8) It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in mortals; (9) it is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in the great. (10) All nations have beset me; by the name of the LORD I will surely cut them down. (11) They beset me, they surround me; by the name of the LORD I will surely cut them down. (12) They have beset me like bees; they shall be extinguished like burning thorns; by the name of the LORD I will surely cut them down. (13) You pressed me hard, I nearly fell; but the LORD helped me. (14) The LORD is my strength and might; He has become my deliverance. (15) The tents of the victorious resound with joyous shouts of deliverance, “The right hand of the LORD is triumphant! (16) The right hand of the LORD is exalted! The right hand of the LORD is triumphant!” (17) I shall not die but live and proclaim the works of the LORD. (18) The LORD punished me severely, but did not hand me over to death. (19) Open the gates of victory for me that I may enter them and praise the LORD. (20) This is the gateway to the LORD— the victorious shall enter through it. (21) I praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my deliverance. (22) The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. (23) This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our sight. (24) This is the day that the LORD has made— let us exult and rejoice on it. (25) O LORD, deliver us! O LORD, let us prosper! (26) May he who enters be blessed in the name of the LORD; we bless you from the House of the LORD. (27) The LORD is God; He has given us light; bind the festal offering to the horns of the altar with cords. (28) You are my God and I will praise You; You are my God and I will extol You. (29) Praise the LORD for He is good, His steadfast love is eternal.

(1) A song of ascents. Happy are all who fear the LORD, who follow His ways. (2) You shall enjoy the fruit of your labors; you shall be happy and you shall prosper. (3) Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons, like olive saplings around your table. (4) So shall the man who fears the LORD be blessed. (5) May the LORD bless you from Zion; may you share the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life, (6) and live to see your children’s children. May all be well with Israel!

(1) A song of ascents. Of David. How good and how pleasant it is that brothers dwell together. (2) It is like fine oil on the head running down onto the beard, the beard of Aaron, that comes down over the collar of his robe; (3) like the dew of Hermon that falls upon the mountains of Zion. There the LORD ordained blessing, everlasting life.

(1) Greater stringency applies to sacred things than to terumah, that they may immerse vessels within vessels [together] for terumah, but not for sacred things. The outside and inside and handle [of a vessel are regarded as separate] for terumah, but not for sacred things. One that carries anything possessing midras-uncleanness may carry [at the same time] terumah, but not sacred things. The garments of those who eat terumah posses midras-uncleanness for [those who eat] sacred things. The rule [for the immersion of garments] for [those who would eat terumah is not the same as the rule for [those who would eat] sacred things: for in the case of sacred things, he must [first] untie [any knots in the unclean garment], dry it [if it is wet, then] immerse it, and afterwards retie it; but in case of terumah, it may [first] be tied and afterwards immersed.

(1) Yom Tov which fell on the eve of Shabbat, one should not begin to cook on Yom Tov for Shabbat. But he may cook for Yom Tov, and if any is left over it is left over for Shabbat. And he may prepare a dish on the eve of Yom Tov and rely upon it [to prepare food] for Shabbat. Bet Shammai says: two dishes. But Bet Hillel says: one dish. Yet they [both] agree that a fish and an egg upon it are [considered as] two dishes. [If] he ate it or it was lost, he may not begin to cook [relying] on it. But if he left over any [small] portion of it, he may rely on it [to cook] for Shabbat.

(1) [On] Yom HaKippurim it is forbidden to eat, to drink, to wash, to anoint oneself, to put on sandals, or to have intercourse. A king or bride may wash their face, and a woman after childbirth may put on sandals, the words of Rabbi Eliezer. But the sages forbid it.

(1) The Megillah is read on the eleventh, the twelfth, the thirteenth, the fourteenth, and the fifteenth [of Adar], never earlier and never later. Cities which have been walled since the days of Joshua ben Nun read on the fifteenth; villages and large towns read on the fourteenth, Except that villages move the reading up to the day of gathering.
