(א) וַיִּקַּ֣ח קֹ֔רַח בֶּן־יִצְהָ֥ר בֶּן־קְהָ֖ת בֶּן־לֵוִ֑י וְדָתָ֨ן וַאֲבִירָ֜ם בְּנֵ֧י אֱלִיאָ֛ב וְא֥וֹן בֶּן־פֶּ֖לֶת בְּנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵֽן׃
(1) Now Korah, son of Izhar son of Kohath son of Levi, betook himself, along with Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—descendants of Reuben—
(יב) וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח מֹשֶׁ֔ה לִקְרֹ֛א לְדָתָ֥ן וְלַאֲבִירָ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ לֹ֥א נַעֲלֶֽה׃
(12) Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab; but they said, “We will not come!
(ט) וּבְנֵ֣י אֱלִיאָ֔ב נְמוּאֵ֖ל וְדָתָ֣ן וַאֲבִירָ֑ם הֽוּא־דָתָ֨ן וַאֲבִירָ֜ם קרואי [קְרִיאֵ֣י] הָעֵדָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצּ֜וּ עַל־מֹשֶׁ֤ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹן֙ בַּעֲדַת־קֹ֔רַח בְּהַצֹּתָ֖ם עַל־יְהוָֽה׃
(9) The sons of Eliab were Nemuel, and Dathan and Abiram. These are the same Dathan and Abiram, chosen in the assembly, who agitated against Moses and Aaron as part of Korah’s band when they agitated against the LORD.

Apropos Korah, the Gemara proceeds to interpret the verses written concerning him. “And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, took [vayikkaḥ]” (Numbers 16:1), Reish Lakish says: He purchased [lakaḥ] a bad acquisition for himself, as through his actions he drove himself from the world. “Korah” alludes to the fact that because of him a void [korḥa] was created in the children of Israel. “Son of Izhar,” is referring to a son who incited the wrath of the entire world upon him like the heat of the afternoon [tzohorayim]. “Son of Kohath,” is referring to a son who blunted [hik’ha] the teeth of his parents, i.e., he shamed them with his conduct. “Son of Levi,” is referring to a son who became an escort [levaya] in Gehenna. The Gemara asks: But if Korah’s lineage is being interpreted disparagingly, why not let the Torah also include: Son of Jacob [Ya’akov], and interpret it: A son who contorted [she’akav] himself until he reached Gehenna? Rav Shmuel bar Rav Yitzḥak says: Jacob prayed for mercy for himself that his name would not be included in the lineage of Korah, as it is stated: “Let my soul not come into their council; to their assembly let my honor not be united” (Genesis 49:6). “Let my soul not come into their council”; these are the spies. Jacob prayed that his name would not be mentioned in their regard. “To their assembly let my honor not be united”; this is referring to the assembly of Korah. The Gemara proceeds to interpret the names of Korah’s cohorts: “Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben” (Numbers 16:1). “Dathan” is one who violated the precepts [dat] of God. “Abiram” is one who braced [iber] himself from repenting. “And On” indicates one who sat in acute mourning [aninut] over the sin that he committed, and he repented and was spared. “Peleth” is one for whom wonders [pelaot] were performed. Son of Reuben [Reuven], is a son who saw and understood [ra’a vehevin] the nature of what was transpiring and repented. Rav says: On, son of Peleth, did not repent on his own; rather, his wife saved him. She said to him: What is the difference to you? If this Master, Moses, is the great one, you are the student. And if this Master, Korah, is the great one, you are the student. Why are you involving yourself in this matter? On said to her: What shall I do? I was one of those who took counsel and I took an oath with them that I would be with them. She said to him: I know that the entire assembly is holy, as it is written: “For all the assembly is holy” (Numbers 16:3), and they observe the restrictions of modesty. She said to him: Sit, for I will save you. She gave him wine to drink and caused him to become drunk and laid him on a bed inside their tent. She sat at the entrance of the tent

(כד) בַּיּוֹם֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י נָשִׂ֖יא לִבְנֵ֣י זְבוּלֻ֑ן אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן־חֵלֹֽן׃
(24) On the third day, it was the chieftain of the Zebulunites, Eliab son of Helon.

(ט) לִזְבוּלֻ֕ן אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן־חֵלֹֽן׃

(9) From Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon.

(א) לזבולן אליאב בן חלן. ולמה נקרא שמו אליאב, על שם הברכה [שבירכו] אביו, שנאמר זבולן לחוף ימים ישכון, ולכך נקרא שמו אליאב, על שם אלונים מבשן עשו משוטיך (יחזקאל כז ו), אבל על שם הספינה, שנאמר חלפו עם אניות אבה (איוב ט כו), ואומר עודנו באבו (שם ח יב):

(כו) חָ֭לְפוּ עִם־אֳנִיּ֣וֹת אֵבֶ֑ה כְּ֝נֶ֗שֶׁר יָט֥וּשׂ עֲלֵי־אֹֽכֶל׃

(26) They pass like reed-boats, Like an eagle swooping onto its prey.
(א) אבה. שם נהר שוטף:
(א) אליאב בן חלון. נקרא כן לצד שהוא דבר המעמיד ליששכר ללמוד תורה יקרא אב, וכמו שמצינו שהקדימו משה ליששכר דכתיב (דברים לג) שמח זבולן וגו' ויששכר וגו', והוא מאמר אליאב פירוש לי יתיחם לקרות אב, הגם שהוא חלון פירוש חולין שאינו בן תורה ועוסק בפרקמטיא חולין עולם הזה אף על פי כן דין אבא למלכא:
(1) אליאב בן חלון. He was called so seeing he, or his tribe, enabled Issachar to devote themselves to the uninterrupted study of Torah. Similar considerations prompted Moses in Deut. 33,18 to mention the tribe of Zevulun ahead of the tribe of Issachar in his blessings although Issachar was senior to Zevulun by birth. The most appropriate way of translating his name would be "it behooves me to be called father (in relation to Issachar)." The word חלון emphasises that although, biologically speaking, he is only the descendant of chulin, someone secular, occupied with trading instead of Torah study, he nevertheless has attained the rank of seniority to Issachar being the one who provides the wherewithal for Issachar to study Torah.

(ו) וַיְהִ֣י בְּבוֹאָ֔ם וַיַּ֖רְא אֶת־אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אַ֛ךְ נֶ֥גֶד יְהוָ֖ה מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃ (ז) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל אַל־תַּבֵּ֧ט אֶל־מַרְאֵ֛הוּ וְאֶל־גְּבֹ֥הַּ קוֹמָת֖וֹ כִּ֣י מְאַסְתִּ֑יהוּ כִּ֣י ׀ לֹ֗א אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִרְאֶה֙ הָאָדָ֔ם כִּ֤י הָֽאָדָם֙ יִרְאֶ֣ה לַעֵינַ֔יִם וַיהוָ֖ה יִרְאֶ֥ה לַלֵּבָֽב׃
(6) When they arrived and he saw Eliab, he thought: “Surely the LORD’s anointed stands before Him.” (7) But the LORD said to Samuel, “Pay no attention to his appearance or his stature, for I have rejected him. For not as man sees [does the LORD see]; man sees only what is visible, but the LORD sees into the heart.”
(יג) וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת בְּנֵֽי־יִשַׁי֙ הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֥וּ אַחֲרֵי־שָׁא֖וּל לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְשֵׁ֣ם ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֗יו אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָלְכוּ֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה אֱלִיאָ֣ב הַבְּכ֗וֹר וּמִשְׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖י שַׁמָּֽה׃
(13) The three oldest sons of Jesse had left and gone with Saul to the war. The names of his three sons who had gone to the war were Eliab the first-born, the next Abinadab, and the third Shammah;
(כח) וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע אֱלִיאָב֙ אָחִ֣יו הַגָּד֔וֹל בְּדַבְּר֖וֹ אֶל־הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים וַיִּֽחַר־אַף֩ אֱלִיאָ֨ב בְּדָוִ֜ד וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לָמָּה־זֶּ֣ה יָרַ֗דְתָּ וְעַל־מִ֨י נָטַ֜שְׁתָּ מְעַ֨ט הַצֹּ֤אן הָהֵ֙נָּה֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אֲנִ֧י יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶת־זְדֹנְךָ֗ וְאֵת֙ רֹ֣עַ לְבָבֶ֔ךָ כִּ֗י לְמַ֛עַן רְא֥וֹת הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה יָרָֽדְתָּ׃
(28) When Eliab, his oldest brother, heard him speaking to the men, Eliab became angry with David and said, “Why did you come down here, and with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your impudence and your impertinence: you came down to watch the fighting!”

In what almost seems a distraction from the main story, Eliab, the oldest son of Jesse, overhears his young brother quizzing soldiers about royal rewards, and his reaction seems typical of older brothers to kid brothers (v. 28). He is angry; he overreacts; he accuses David of abandoning his responsibilities with the sheep; he labels David as presumptuous and evil-hearted; he accuses David of boyish voyeurism, just showing up to gawk at the battle.’

Rabbi Mani bar Patish said: Whoever becomes angry, even if greatness has been apportioned to him from heaven, he is lowered from his greatness. From where do we derive this? From Eliab, David’s older brother, as it is stated: “And Eliab’s anger burned against David and he said: Why did you come down, and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle” (I Samuel 17:28); we see that Eliab became angry. And when Samuel went to anoint him after God had told him that one of Yishai’s sons was to be the king, concerning all of the other brothers it is written: “The Lord has not chosen this one” (I Samuel 16:8), whereas with regard to Eliab it is written: “And the Lord said to Samuel: Look not at his appearance, nor at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him” (I Samuel 16:7). This proves by inference that until now He had loved him, and it was only at this point that Eliab was rejected. Had it not been for his anger, Eliab would have been fit for greatness; but owing to this shortcoming, God rejected him.

(עג) אמר לי מורי זלה"ה, כי שלשה הם שטעו בקץ, יעקב כשקרא לבניו ונעלם ממנו הקץ. וכן ר' עקיבא יש בו אותיות יעקב, לרמוז כי טעותם וטעה וחשב שבן כוזיבא היה משיח. וכן שמואל טעה בענין אליאב, שחשב שממנו יצא משיח, וכמש"ה (שמואל א ט״ז:ו׳) אך נגד ה' משיחו. ולכן שלשתם נתגלגלו לתקן טעות זה:

וְלִבְנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֗ן נָתְנוּ֙ אֶת־עָרֵ֣י הַמִּקְלָ֔ט אֶת־חֶבְר֥וֹן וְאֶת־לִבְנָ֖ה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶת־יַתִּ֥ר וְאֶֽת־אֶשְׁתְּמֹ֖עַ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (מג) וְאֶת־חִילֵז֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ אֶת־דְּבִ֖יר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (מד) וְאֶת־עָשָׁן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־בֵּ֥ית שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס) (מה) וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֗ן אֶת־גֶּ֤בַע וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֙יהָ֙ וְאֶת־עָלֶ֣מֶת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־עֲנָת֖וֹת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ כָּל־עָרֵיהֶ֛ם שְׁלֹשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה עִ֖יר בְּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ (ס) (מו) וְלִבְנֵ֨י קְהָ֜ת הַנּוֹתָרִ֗ים מִמִּשְׁפַּ֣חַת הַמַּטֶּ֡ה מִֽ֠מַּחֲצִית מַטֵּ֨ה חֲצִ֧י מְנַשֶּׁ֛ה בַּגּוֹרָ֖ל עָרִ֥ים עָֽשֶׂר׃ (ס) (מז) וְלִבְנֵ֨י גֵרְשׁ֜וֹם לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָ֗ם מִמַּטֵּ֣ה יִ֠שָׂשכָר וּמִמַּטֵּ֨ה אָשֵׁ֜ר וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה נַפְתָּלִ֗י וּמִמַּטֵּ֤ה מְנַשֶּׁה֙ בַּבָּשָׁ֔ן עָרִ֖ים שְׁלֹ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃ (ס) (מח) לִבְנֵ֨י מְרָרִ֜י לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָ֗ם מִמַּטֵּ֣ה רְ֠אוּבֵן וּֽמִמַּטֵּה־גָ֞ד וּמִמַּטֵּ֤ה זְבוּלֻן֙ בַּגּוֹרָ֔ל עָרִ֖ים שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃ (מט) וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לַלְוִיִּ֑ם אֶת־הֶעָרִ֖ים וְאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃ (נ) וַיִּתְּנ֣וּ בַגּוֹרָ֗ל מִמַּטֵּ֤ה בְנֵי־יְהוּדָה֙ וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה בְנֵי־שִׁמְע֔וֹן וּמִמַּטֵּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן אֵ֚ת הֶעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁר־יִקְרְא֥וּ אֶתְהֶ֖ם בְּשֵׁמֽוֹת׃ (ס) (נא) וּמִֽמִּשְׁפְּח֖וֹת בְּנֵ֣י קְהָ֑ת וַיְהִי֙ עָרֵ֣י גְבוּלָ֔ם מִמַּטֵּ֖ה אֶפְרָֽיִם׃ (נב) וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ לָהֶ֜ם אֶת־עָרֵ֧י הַמִּקְלָ֛ט אֶת־שְׁכֶ֥ם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֖יהָ בְּהַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת־גֶּ֖זֶר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (נג) וְאֶֽת־יָקְמְעָם֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־בֵּ֥ית חוֹר֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (נד) וְאֶת־אַיָּלוֹן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־גַּת־רִמּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (פ) (נה) וּמִֽמַּחֲצִית֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה אֶת־עָנֵר֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־בִּלְעָ֖ם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ לְמִשְׁפַּ֥חַת לִבְנֵי־קְהָ֖ת הַנּוֹתָרִֽים׃ (פ) (נו) לִבְנֵי֮ גֵּרְשׁוֹם֒ מִמִּשְׁפַּ֗חַת חֲצִי֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה אֶת־גּוֹלָ֥ן בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶת־עַשְׁתָּר֖וֹת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס) (נז) וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה יִשָׂשכָ֔ר אֶת־קֶ֖דֶשׁ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ אֶת־דָּבְרַ֖ת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (נח) וְאֶת־רָאמוֹת֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־עָנֵ֖ם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס) (נט) וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה אָשֵׁ֔ר אֶת־מָשָׁ֖ל וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶת־עַבְדּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס) וְאֶת־חוּקֹק֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־רְחֹ֖ב וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (סא) וּמִמַּטֵּ֣ה נַפְתָּלִ֗י אֶת־קֶ֤דֶשׁ בַּגָּלִיל֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־חַמּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶת־קִרְיָתַ֖יִם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס) (סב) לִבְנֵ֣י מְרָרִי֮ הַנּוֹתָרִים֒ מִמַּטֵּ֣ה זְבוּלֻ֔ן אֶת־רִמּוֹנ֖וֹ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ אֶת־תָּב֖וֹר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (סג) וּמֵעֵ֜בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֣ן יְרֵחוֹ֮ לְמִזְרַ֣ח הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ מִמַּטֵּ֣ה רְאוּבֵ֔ן אֶת־בֶּ֥צֶר בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶת־יַ֖הְצָה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (סד) וְאֶת־קְדֵמוֹת֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־מֵיפַ֖עַת וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (סה) וּמִ֨מַּטֵּה־גָ֔ד אֶת־רָאמ֥וֹת בַּגִּלְעָ֖ד וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֑יהָ וְאֶֽת־מַחֲנַ֖יִם וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (סו) וְאֶת־חֶשְׁבּוֹן֙ וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֔יהָ וְאֶת־יַעְזֵ֖יר וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃ (ס)

(1) The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. (2) And these are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei. (3) The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. (4) The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These were the families of the Levites according to their clans. (5) Of Gershom: his son Libni, his son Jahath, his son Zimmah, (6) his son Joah, his son Iddo, his son Zerah, his son Jeatherai. (7) The sons of Kohath: his son Amminadab, his son Korah, his son Assir, (8) his son Elkanah, his son Ebiasaph, his son Assir, (9) his son Tahath, his son Uriel, his son Uzziah, and his son Shaul. (10) The sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth, (11) his son Elkanah, his son Zophai, his son Nahath, (12) his son Eliab, his son Jeroham, his son Elkanah. (13) The sons of Samuel: his first-born Vashni, and Abijah. (14) The sons of Merari: Mahli, his son Libni, his son Shimei, his son Uzzah, (15) his son Shimea, his son Haggiah, and his son Asaiah. (16) These were appointed by David to be in charge of song in the House of the LORD, from the time the Ark came to rest. (17) They served at the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting with song until Solomon built the House of the LORD in Jerusalem; and they carried out their duties as prescribed for them. (18) Those were the appointed men; and their sons were: the Kohathites: Heman the singer, son of Joel son of Samuel (19) son of Elkanah son of Jeroham son of Eliel son of Toah (20) son of Zuph son of Elkanah son of Mahath son of Amasai (21) son of Elkanah son of Joel son of Azariah son of Zephaniah (22) son of Tahath son of Assir son of Ebiasaph son of Korah (23) son of Izhar son of Kohath son of Levi son of Israel; (24) and his kinsman Asaph, who stood on his right, namely, Asaph son of Berechiah son of Shimea (25) son of Michael son of Baaseiah son of Malchijah (26) son of Ethni son of Zerah son of Adaiah (27) son of Ethan son of Zimmah son of Shimei (28) son of Jahath son of Gershom son of Levi. (29) On the left were their kinsmen: the sons of Merari: Ethan son of Kishi son of Abdi son of Malluch (30) son of Hashabiah son of Amaziah son of Hilkiah (31) son of Amzi son of Bani son of Shemer (32) son of Mahli son of Mushi son of Merari son of Levi; (33) and their kinsmen the Levites were appointed for all the service of the Tabernacle of the House of God. (34) But Aaron and his sons made offerings upon the altar of burnt offering and upon the altar of incense, performing all the tasks of the most holy place, to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. (35) These are the sons of Aaron: his son Eleazar, his son Phinehas, his son Abishua, (36) his son Bukki, his son Uzzi, his son Zerahiah, (37) his son Meraioth, his son Amariah, his son Ahitub, (38) his son Zadok, his son Ahimaaz. (39) These are their dwelling-places according to their settlements within their borders: to the sons of Aaron of the families of Kohathites, for theirs was the [first] lot; (40) they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah and its surrounding pasturelands, (41) but the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh. (42) To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron and Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir and Eshtemoa with its pasturelands, (43) Hilen with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, (44) Ashan with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands. (45) From the tribe of Benjamin, Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen. (46) To the remaining Kohathites were given by lot out of the family of the tribe, out of the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, ten cities. (47) To the Gershomites according to their families were allotted thirteen cities out of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh in Bashan. (48) To the Merarites according to their families were allotted twelve cities out of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. (49) So the people of Israel gave the Levites the cities with their pasturelands. (50) They gave them by lot out of the tribe of the Judahites these cities that are mentioned by name, and out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of the Benjaminites. (51) And some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim. (52) They gave them the cities of refuge: Shechem with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, (53) Jokmeam with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands, (54) Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands; (55) and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner with its pasturelands, and Bileam with its pasturelands, for the rest of the families of the Kohathites. (56) To the Gershomites; out of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands and Ashtaroth with its pasturelands; (57) and out of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with its pasturelands, Dobrath with its pasturelands, (58) Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands; (59) out of the tribe of Asher: Mashal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands, (60) Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands; (61) and out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands; Hammon with its pasturelands, and Kiriathaim with its pasturelands. (62) To the rest of the Merarites, out of the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmono with its pasturelands, Tabor with its pasturelands; (63) and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, out of the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands, Jahaz with its pasturelands, (64) Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands; (65) and out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, (66) Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
