In our home it is customary to have the chairs already set around the table; all the beds made - even in the other rooms; everything swept up; the dishes and silverware clean and polished and even the cobwebs removed in honor of Shabbat as if an important guest were arriving. (17) Shaken, he said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the abode of God, and that is the gateway to heaven.”
Rabbi Yossi ben Yehuda used to say: There are two of G-d's ministering angels who accompany one home on Shabbat evening from the synagogue to his home - one is good and one is evil. If when entering the house, one finds a candle lit, a table set and a bed made- the good angel declares: 'May it be Your will, G-d, that next Shabbat be just like this one.' The evil angel is required, even against his will, to say 'Amen." However, if the household is not prepared, the malicious angel declares: 'May it be Your will, that next Shabbat be just like this one.' Then the beneficent angel is required, even against his will, to say 'Amen.' Talmud Shabbat 119a

(ג) כשיבוא לביתו ינשק ידי אביו ואמו, כי יש סוד בדבר, ואח"כ יסתכל באור הנר אשר ברכו עליו, ויסתכל בשני הנרות ויכוין שהם אחד כנגד זכור ושמור. ואח"כ יעמוד במקום שישב שם אצל השולחן, ויאמר בקול רם: דָּא הִיא סעֻדָּתָא דַּחֲקַל תַּפּוּחִין קַדִּישִׁין, ויקיף את השלחן פעם אחת, ויקח שתי אגודות הדס (אחד כנגד זכור ואחד כנגד שמור) ויברך עליהם ויריח, ויאמר בפיו: זָכוֹר ושָׁמוֹר בּדִבּוּר אֶחָד נֶאֱמָרוּ, וגם יאמר בלחש: רֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ אִשֶּׁה לַה', ויקיף בשתיקה פעם שניה את שלחנו בעוד ההדס בידו (אם אין לו הדס יקח מיני בשמים אחרים). ויאמר בשמחה תפלה זו המהוה את קבלת הפנים למלאכים המלוים את היהודי בדרכו מבית הכנסת לביתו (שבת קי"ט).

When you arrive at your home, kiss the hands of your parents and afterward gaze at the light of the Shabbat candles… take two bundles of myrtle leaves (one for Shamor and one for Zachor), recite the blessing for spices and smells and then make circle with them over the table two times. Then in joy recite Shalom Aleichem anticipating welcoming the angels that visit Jewish homes on their way from synagogue.
