בן בונייס אתא לקמיה דרבי, אמר להו: פנו מקום לבן מאה מנה. אתא איניש אחרינא, אמר להו
פנו מקום לבן מאתים מנה. אמר לפניו רבי ישמעאל ברבי יוסי: רבי, אביו של זה יש לו אלף ספינות בים וכנגדן אלף עיירות ביבשה! אמר לו: לכשתגיע אצל אביו אמור לו: אל תשגרהו בכלים הללו לפני. רבי מכבד עשירים
When Bonyos ben Bonyos once visited Rabbi, Rabbi called out, “Make room for the owner of 100 maneh.” When another person entered, he called out, “Make [more] room for the owner of 200 maneh.” “Master,” R. Ishmael son of R. Yose said, “Bonyos’s father has a thousand ships at sea and an equal number of hamlets on land [yet the one who came later you gave more room.]” So Rabbi said, “When you meet Bonyos’ father, tell him ‘Do not send your son to me wearing garments so drab.’” Rabbi honored the wealthy.
