One may not buy wool, milk or kids from shepherds [of the flocks of others]. Nor may one buy wood or fruit from the watchman of orchards. However, one can buy from the women items of wool in Judea, and items of linen in the Galil, and wagons in Sharon. [Even in circumstances where it is permitted to buy something,] in all cases in which the seller asks that the goods be hidden, it is forbidden [to make such a purchase]. [Translation by Hazon]

Suggested Discussion Questions:

1. Why may you not buy wool and other goods for shepherds of others’ flocks, or goods from the watchman of orchards, or from sellers who ask that the goods be hidden?

2. To what degree are we responsible for ensuring that our goods come from ethical suppliers? Should this be our personal responsibility?
