Mishnah Shabbat 2:6
משנה מסכת שבת פרק ב
על שלש עברות נשים מתות בשעת לדתן. על שאינן זהירות בנדה ובחלה ובהדלקת הנר:
On account of three transgressions do women die in childbirth: because they are not meticulous in the laws of (1) menstrual separation, (2) in the dough offering, and (3) in kindling the Shabbat light.

Suggested Discussion Questions:

1) Why do you think the Rabbis would make a causal connection between dying in childbirth and these particular women's mitzvot?

2) Do these three mitzvot relate to one another in any way?

3) How might this halakhah be reconciled in today's world?

Time Period: Rabbinic (Maccabees through the Talmud)
