(19) And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham begot Isaac. (20) And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.

“and these are the generations of Isaac” – this is the account of Isaac’s life, that “Abraham begat Isaac” – that in everything Isaac did throughout his life, it was apparent that he was Abraham’s son” - Ha-Amek Davar

Isaac always thought that he himself was nothing, except that was “Abraham’s son.” He attributed whatever he was and had to his father. Abraham on his part, felt that he had never accomplished anything in serving God properly, and that his only merit was in having raised a son such as Isaac – “Abraham begat Isaac.” This was the way they thought: each believed that his merit derived from the other. - R’Yehiel of Alexander

Who is wise? He who frsees what will take place (literally, “what will be born” – Tamid 32a). From the person who is born, the son, one can see the father. Abraham begat Isaac. - R’Bunim of Pshischa

(22) And the children struggled together within her; and she said: ‘If it be so, wherefore do I live?’ And she went to inquire of the LORD. (23) And the LORD said unto her: Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels; And the one people shall be stronger than the other people; And the elder shall serve the younger.

Lest Jacob learn from Esau, God placed enmity in their hearts even before they were born, and the divide between them started at that time. – Sefer Hasidim

When [Rebecca] would pass the doors of the Torah academies … Jacob struggled to come out, while when she passed the doors of the idolatry, Esau struggled to come out (Rashi). Why would Jacob want to come out when the Talmud teaches that when a child is still in the womb, “they [angels] teach him Torah (Niddah 30)?” [because] It is difficult for a righteous person to be in the same location as a wicked person, even if he is studying Torah from an angel. - R’Bunim of Pshischa

“are you “you” because of me? am I “me” because of you? the lines have long since blurred. if, that is, they ever existed." - from "The Complication of Sisters” Katherine Mariaca-Sullivan

(27) And the boys grew; and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. (28) Now Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison; and Rebekah loved Jacob.

(34) And when Esau was forty years old, he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. (35) And they were a bitterness of spirit unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
---
27(46) And Rebekah said to Isaac: ‘I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?’

28 (1) And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him: ‘Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
