Balaam's Messianic Prophecies

And the Lord met Bil῾am, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go back to Balaq, and say thus.
And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Mo᾽av with him. And Balaq said to him, What has the Lord spoken?
And he took up his discourse, and said, Rise up, Balaq and hear; hearken to me, thou son of Żippor:
God is not a man, that he should lie; nor the son of man, that he should repent: has he said, and shall he not perform? or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Behold, I am bidden to bless: and he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
He has not beheld iniquity in Ya῾aqov nor has he seen perverseness in Yisra᾽el: the Lord his God is with him, and the trumpet blast of a king is among them.

[A word from before] Adonoy chanced to appear to Bil’am and placed the word in his mouth; He said: “Return to Balak and say as follows.” When he returned, he (Balak) was still standing next to his burnt-offering accompanied by the Moavite dignitaries; Balak asked: “What did Adonoy say?” Bil’am set forth his parable, and said: “Arise, Balak, and hear, listen closely to me [my word], son of Tzipor. God is not like man that He should act falsely, nor is He mortal that He should change His mind. [God’s word is not as that of man who speaks with deceit. Nor is it as that of mankind who decree and then change their mind] Would He say and not do it? Or speak and not fulfill it [He says and does, and His word endures]? Behold, I was commanded to bless, and [when] He has blessed, I cannot reverse it [turn my blessing from him]. [Behold,] One does not see evildoers [there are no idol worshippers] in [the house of] Yaakov; and He has seen no transgression [nor is there the work of liars] in Yisroel; [the word of] Adonoy, his God, is with [aids them] him, and he has the King's friendship [and the Shechinah of their King is among them].

And the Word from before the Lord met Bileam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus speak. And he came to him, and, behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What hath the Lord spoken? And he took up the parable of his prophecy, and said: Arise, Balak, and hear; listen to my words, Bar Zippor. The Word of the living God is not as the words of men for the Lord, the Ruler of all worlds, is the unchangeable (but) man speaketh and denieth. Neither are His works like the works of the children of flesh, who consult, and then repent them of what they had decreed. But when the Lord of all worlds hath said, I will multiply this people as the stars of the heavens, and will give them to possess the land of the Kenaanites, is He not able to perform what He hath spoken? and what He hath said, can He not confirm it? Behold, from the mouth of the Holy Word I have received the benediction, and their appointed benediction I cannot restrain from them. Bileam the wicked said, I see not among them of the house of Jakob such as worship idols: they who serve false idols are not established among the tribes of the sons of Israel. The Word of the Lord their God is their help, and the trumpets of the King Meshiha resound among them:

And now, as I go back to my people, let me inform you of what this people will do to your people in days to come.” He took up his theme, and said:
Word of Balaam son of Beor,
Word of the man whose eye is true,
Word of one who hears God’s speech,
Who obtains knowledge from the Most High,
And beholds visions from the Almighty,
Prostrate, but with eyes unveiled:
What I see for them is not yet,
What I behold will not be soon:
A star rises from Jacob,
A scepter comes forth from Israel;
It smashes the brow of Moab,
The foundation of all children of Seth.

This is the declaration of one who hears God's utterances and knows the thoughts of the Most Exalted; who sees the vision of the Almighty; fallen, with opened eyes [and is apparent to him]. I see it but not now, I perceive it but not in the near future; a star [king] has gone forth from Yaakov, and a staff has arisen [the Moshiach will be magnified by] from Yisroel, which will smash the corners [kill the leaders] of Moav, and impale all of the sons of Sheis [will rule over mankind].

And now, behold, I return to go to my people. Come, I will give thee counsel: Go, furnish tavern houses, and employ seductive women to sell food and drinks cheaply, and to bring this people together to eat and drink, and commit whoredom with them, that they may deny their God; then in a brief time will they be delivered into thy hand, and many of them fall. Nevertheless, after this they will still have dominion over thy people at the end of the days. And he took up the parable of his prophecy, and said Bileam the son of Beor speaketh; the man speaketh who is more honourable than his father, because the mysteries hidden from prophets have been revealed to him; he speaketh who heard the Word from before the Lord, and who knoweth the hour when the Most High God will be wroth with him; (he speaketh) who saw the vision before the Almighty, seeking, prostrate on his face, that it should be revealed to him; the secret, concealed from the prophets, was disclosed unto him. I shall see Him, but not now; I shall behold Him, but it is not near. When the mighty King of Jakob's house shall reign, and the Meshiha, the Power-sceptre of Israel, be anointed, He will slay the princes of the Moabaee, and bring to nothing all the children of Sheth, the armies of Gog who will do battle against Israel and all their carcases shall fall before Him.

He saw Amalek and, taking up his theme, he said:
A leading nation is Amalek;
But its fate is to perish forever.

When Bil’am saw Amalek, he declared his parable, and said: “Amalek was the first among nations [to fight with Yisroel], and his end will be total destruction.”

And he looked on the house of Amalek, and took up the parable of his prophecy, and said: The first of the nations who made war with the house of Israel were those of the house of Amalek; and they at last, in the days of the King Meshiha, with all the children of the east, will make war against Israel; but all of them together will have eternal destruction in their end.

He took up his theme and said:
Alas, who can survive except God has willed it!
Ships come from the quarter of Kittim;
They subject Asshur, subject Eber.
They, too, shall perish forever.

He set forth his parable, and said: “Alas! Who can survive from God's devastation? [Woe to those evil people who are living when Hashem does this.] Warships will come from Kittim [groups will beg help from Rome] and destroy Ashur, and cause suffering to those on the other side [will enslave those beyond Peras], but they, too, shall be lost for eternity.”

And he took up the parable of his prophecy, and said, Woe to them who are alive at the time when the Word of the Lord shall be revealed, to give the good reward to the righteous, and to take vengeance on the wicked, to smite the nations and the kings, and bring these things upon them! And ships (lit., sails) armed for war will come forth with urreat armies from Lombarnia, and from the land of Italia, conjoined with the legions that will come forth from Constantina, and will afflict the Athuraee, and bring into captivity all the sons of Eber; nevertheless the end of these and of those is to fall by the hand of the King Meshiha, and be brought to everlasting destruction:
