(1) The LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you. (2) I will make of you a great nation, And I will bless you; I will make your name great, And you shall be a blessing.

Shabbat ritual: Take stock of your life’s journey! Just as Abram awaited his future legacy we may find ourselves waiting for the next best thing. An upcoming transition, or a long awaited adventure. Other times we are cruising along in the constant, a known job, home, and daily life. Changes can be anticipated or sudden, such as when we may experience a loss or illness. Regardless of where you are on your journey, pause to take stock and notice. What are the blessings in your life? How do you facilitate blessings towards others’? Are you someone’s caretaker? partner? parent? child? grandparent? How do you enrich other’s lives with your presence? Make time this Shabbat to thank someone responsible for bringing blessing into your life. Whether written or spoken, we all have someone helping us along life’s journey that is deserving of thanks for how they help us.
