Holy Holy Holy!

You are holy and Your Name is holy, and holy ones praise Your name every day. Blessed are You, O Lord, the holy God.

בחזרת הש”ץ:

We shall sanctify Your name in the world, in the same way as they sanctify it in the Heavens above. As it is written by the hand of Your prophets (Isaiah 6:3), "And they called, this one to that one, saying:

(2) The congregation and the leader: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts, the whole world is full of His glory." (3) The leader: Across from them, they say, "Blessed":(4) The congregation and the leader: "Blessed is the Glory of God from His place" (Ezekiel 3:12).

(5) The leader:And in Your holy words, it is written, saying:The congregation and the leader: "May the Lord reign forever - your God, O Zion - for each and every generation; praise the Lord" (Pslams 46:10).

(6) The leader: For each and every generation, we will tell Your greatness, and forever and ever, we will sanctify Your holiness. And Your praise, our God, will not depart from our mouths forever on; since You are God, great and holy King. Blessed are You, O Lord, the holy God.

(1) In the year that King Uzziah died, I beheld my Lord seated on a high and lofty throne; and the skirts of His robe filled the Temple. (2) Seraphs stood in attendance on Him. Each of them had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his legs, and with two he would fly. (3) And one would call to the other, “Holy, holy, holy! The LORD of Hosts! His presence fills all the earth! (4) The doorposts would shake at the sound of the one who called, and the House kept filling with smoke. (5) I cried, “Woe is me; I am lost! For I am a man of unclean lips And I live among a people Of unclean lips; Yet my own eyes have beheld The King LORD of Hosts.”

(1) In the thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, when I was in the community of exiles by the Chebar Canal, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God. (2) On the fifth day of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin— (3) the word of the LORD came to the priest Ezekiel son of Buzi, by the Chebar Canal, in the land of the Chaldeans. And the hand of the LORD came upon him there. (4) I looked, and lo, a stormy wind came sweeping out of the north—a huge cloud and flashing fire, surrounded by a radiance; and in the center of it, in the center of the fire, a gleam as of amber. (5) In the center of it were also the figures of four creatures. And this was their appearance: They had the figures of human beings. (6) However, each had four faces, and each of them had four wings; (7) the legs of each were [fused into] a single rigid leg, and the feet of each were like a single calf’s hoof; and their sparkle was like the luster of burnished bronze. (8) They had human hands below their wings. The four of them had their faces and their wings on their four sides. (9) Each one’s wings touched those of the other. They did not turn when they moved; each could move in the direction of any of its faces... (10) Then He said to me: “Mortal, listen with your ears and receive into your mind all the words that I speak to you. (11) Go to your people, the exile community, and speak to them. Say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD—whether they listen or not.” (12) Then a spirit carried me away, and behind me I heard a great roaring sound: “Blessed is the Presence of the LORD, in His place,” (13) with the sound of the wings of the creatures beating against one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them—a great roaring sound.”

(10) The LORD will reign for ever, Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Hallelujah.

Ma'aseh Merkavah, Synopse, p 86.

And You have established in glory and praise a magnificent song of praise And all the angelic legions and Seraphim standing before You Praise and glorify Your Name And the wheels of the Chariot utter song before you And You have established Your Throne of Glory, song and merit, and the ministering angels that stand and sanctify the holiness of Your Name Extol Your might And say, YHWH of Hosts, Shaddai, YHW, lives for ever. Your kingdom stretches from one end of the universe to the other And they enunciate Your name . . . And this is the prayer: Blessed are You YHWH, the One God, Who created the universe with His One Name, Who formed all things with one utterance. High in the heavens did You establish Your Throne, You placed Your Chariot in the supernal firmament, You placed Your Inner Chamber in the heavenly vault, You planted [Your Sanctuary] among Ofannim of Glory. Legions of fire glorify Your Name, Seraphim of fire exult in Your praise: They are all infused by a still, small voice, They utter praise as they walk, They walk in awe, clothed in fear, Burdened with pride to extol the Creator of all things, Full of eyes on their rims. Their appearance is like that of lightning, Their countenance is pleasing, their mouth delicious, One over against the other they bear and speak, Bearing and speaking pure Hayyot, Holy, Holy, Holy. The ministering angels recite before You, The sun's orb shines from their faces, Their radiance shines like the radiance of the sky, Their wings outspread, their hands outstretched, As the sound of rushing water is the sound of their wings, Fiery torches extrude and emerge from the orbs of their eyes, With a sound of great tumult they utter song before You, Full of radiance, emitting brightness, their radiance shines. Beauteous as they go, rejoicing as they come, happy as they stand, Their light is pleasing before Your Throne of Glory, In awe they do Your will, Offering Your great, mighty and awe-inspiring Name. Grandeur and glory, enunciating the Name of Your Kingdom in joy and gladness, For there is none like You and none like your priests and none like your pious servants, And there is nothing like Your great Name for ever and ever to all eternity Raging at the sea and it dries up, gazing upon the earth and it heaves, Quickening the dead, reviving the dead from their dust. Great is Your Name for ever, Mighty is Your Name for ever, Holy is Your Name for ever, The One God YHWH is One. YHV

In these Berachot (blessings) we bow down: the first Beracha (blessing) [of Shemoneh Esreh], in the beginning and at the end, and in [the paragraph of] Modim [in Shemoneh Esreh], in the beginning and at the end. And [as for] one who bows down in every [single] Beracha [of Shemoneh Esreh], we teach him that he should not bow down [in them]. We do not say [the Beracha] together with the one that says the Beracha [for you]. Rebbi Yehudah would say together with the one that made the Beracha, Kadosh Kadosh Kadosh Hashem Tzevaot Melo Kol Haaretz Kevodo (Isaiah 6:3) (Holy, Holy, Holy, Hashem Tzevaot, the earth is full with His glory) and Baruch Kevod Hashem Mimkomo (Ezekiel 3:12) (Blessed be the glory of Hashem from His place). All of these Rebbi Yehudah would say together with the one that made the Beracha.

Rav Huna said: One who did not yet pray and enters a synagogue and found that the congregation is in the midst of reciting the Amida prayer, if he is able to begin and complete his own prayer before the prayer leader reaches the blessing of thanksgiving [modim], he should begin to pray, and, if not, he should not begin to pray. Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said: If he is able to begin and complete his prayer before the prayer leader reaches sanctification [kedusha], then he should begin to pray. If not, then he should not begin to pray.

The Gemara clarifies: With regard to what do they disagree? The basis for their dispute is that one Sage, Rav Huna, holds: An individual is permitted to recite kedusha on his own, so he need not insist on reciting it along with the prayer leader; and the other Sage, Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi, holds that an individual may not recite kedusha alone, and, therefore he is required to complete his prayer before the communal prayer leader reaches kedusha.
