...On four occasions did someone utter a vow, three times for an inappropriate request where ha-Shem provided an appropriate outcome, and one inappropriate request where ha-Shem provided an outcome that was inappropriate. These are they: Eliezer the servant of Abraham, Saul, Yiftach, and Caleb... (All of these examples, besides Yiftach, are of a father promising his daughter in a way where someone not fitting might come to marry her and God providing the right match.)
Yiftach made an inappropriate request (Shoftim 11:31). ha-Shem said, what if a camel came out, or a donkey or a dog? Would you have offered one of those [non-kosher animals] as a sacrifice? So ha-Shem fulfilled the request with an inappropriate outcome, when he was welcomed by his daughter (Shoftim 11:35).
As soon as he saw her, he rent his garments [as if she were already dead]. But he had the power to annul his vow, by going to Pinchas [the High Priest]. Instead he said, "I'm the King -- should I be the one to go to Pinchas?!" And Pinchas said, "I'm the High Priest, the son of a High Priest -- should I be the one to go to this ignoramus?" Between his decision and his decision, this humble one was condemned, and both of them are liable for her blood. (After this) the Holy Spirit was hidden from Pinchas, as it says, "And Phinehas son of Eleazar was the chief officer over them in time past; the LORD was with him." (Chrionicles I 9:20) Yiftach was dismembered and was buried , as it says, "And he was buried in the cities of Gilad" (Judges 12:7) It does not say in the city of Gilad, but rather, in the cities. This is to teach that he was dismembered and buried in many places. Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish and Rabbi Yohanan: Resh Lakish said that he was liable to give blood and to make a sacrifice on the altar. Rabbi Yohanan said he wasn't liable to give blood, as we taught: a thing that is appropraite to sacrifice on the altar will be sacrificed and something that is not appropriate to be sacrificed will not be sacrificed. And not just this, but: everyone who makes a vow and fulfills it, they merit that their vow will be fulfilled in Jerusalem, as it is written, "My vows to God I will fulfill in" (Psalms 116:18) Where? "In the courtyards of the House of God in the midst of Jerusalem, Halleluyah!" (Psalm 116:19) and as it says, "Thanks to God because it is Good, because the God's kindness is everlasting." (Psalms 118:1)

Radak on Judges 12:7
He was buried in the cities of Gilad: The way this is explained is that he was struck with very serious boils and his limbs fell off as he traveled from city to city. And, in every city where one of his limbs fell off he would bury it there. This was his punishment for killing his daughter and not asking (the high priest) about his vow.
