(25) They went up from Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. (26) And they told him, “Joseph is still alive; yes, he is ruler over the whole land of Egypt.” His heart went numb, for he did not believe them. (27) But when they recounted all that Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. (28) “Enough!” said Israel. “My son Joseph is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.”

Serach Bat Asher

Midrash HaGadol, Genesis 45:26

[The brothers said:]If we tell him right away, "Joseph is alive!" perhaps he will have a stroke [lit., his soul will fly away]. What did they do? They said to Serah, daughter of Asher, "Tell our father Jacob that Joseph is alive, and he is in Egypt." What did she do? She waited till he was standing in prayer, and then said in a tone of wonder, "Joseph is in Egypt/ There have been born on his knees/ Menasseh and Ephraim" [three rhyming lines]. His heart failed, while he was standing in prayer. When he finished his prayer, he saw the wagons: immediately the spirit of Jacob came back to life.(Translated by Avivah Zornberg in Genesis, the Beginning of Desire, p.281).

MIDRASH HA-GADOL (Heb. מִדְרַשׁ הַגָּדוֹל), a 13th-century rabbinic work on the Five Books of Moses, emanating from Yemen and consisting mainly of excerpts of older rabbinic texts of the talmudic period.

What Revived Jacob's Spirit?

(1) וירא את העגלות, “he saw the carriages, etc.” then he believed the brothers as he told himself that no one else but a ruler would have been able to send these carriages out of Egypt, and all these precious gifts of food, etc. in the midst of a famine, except if it had been with the full consent of the government. Once he felt joy in his life once more, the holy spirit that had been absent since Joseph’s disappearance overcame him again.

Tur HaArokh is penned by Jacob ben Asher (c. 1270–1340), also known as Ba'al ha-Turim as well as Yaakov ben haRosh, an influential Medieval rabbinic authority.

The Circle/The Cycle of History

(6) Genesis 45,26. “when he saw the carriages that Joseph ‎had sent, etc.” Joseph had hinted to Yaakov that he should ‎not be concerned about his family going into exile, as what was ‎occurring now was a forerunner of the eventual redemption from ‎exile. Temporary hardship, such as their having to leave the Holy ‎Land now, would result in much greater good in the end. Both ‎the word ‎עגלה‎, carriage, which is a chair or couch on circular ‎wheels, i.e. ‎עיגול‎, circle, and the word ‎סיבה‎, the cause of Yaakov ‎been transported to Egypt on wheels into “exile” is related to this ‎revolving nature of fate, ‎סבב‎, spinning, revolving. Joseph wished ‎to indicate to his father that temporary residence of his family in ‎Egypt would result subsequently in his descendants inheriting ‎the whole land of Israel.‎

Kedushat Levi is a seminal work of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, a chasidic master in the late-18th and early-19th centuries. Arranged according to the weekly Torah portion and holidays, the work provides unique insights and expands upon rabbinic teachings and earlier Chasidic texts.

Tell all the truth but tell it slant

By Emily Dickinson
Tell all the truth but tell it slant —
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Little-known during her life, she has since been regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry.Wiki

Does the Truth Set you Free?

John 8:31-32
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
