General Overview

Based on the Devarim Aliyah Summary by Chabad.org, these are the main ideas and opinions that I can extract from each one of the aliyot.

Moshe begins his final monologue, five weeks before his passing. He recounts the story of the journey of B'nei Yisrael, traveling through the desert. He criticises their behaviour regarding the Spies situation. And praises Yisrael for the conquests.

First Aliyah
We are facing the imminence of Moses' death, and he starts recounting the facts that began 39 years before. Here I see how important it is for the tradition to recount, particularly and the end of a journey. Moshe puts into words his legacy and the lessons learned across the years.
I can't recall a time when Hashem asks him to go back and recount. But he does it anyway because he has the obligation to teach Yisrael and the younger generations. To have everything ready before his departure.

Second Aliyah
Moshe continues to leave everything in order. Appoint judges with Yisrael's consent and recall the basics of judicial integrity. A great leader knows that a great deal of his legacy is the culture that he leaves behind, and a culture based on an ethical framework and Torah is the perfect setting for its flourishing.

Third Aliyah
The tragedy is that no man from an entire generation would be able to set foot in Canaan, because they listened to the inauspicious report from the spies. Everything got delayed. I had thought about this a lot, about the written word of Torah, and the confidence it provides, but also the invitation that even when there don't seem to be clear/explicit answers, you must trust Hashem and be at peace. Things could get delayed when inaction is sustained in fear. Do not listen to fear.

Fourth Aliyah
After realizing the error of listening to the dreadful report. And heading back to the desert, some Israelites went to the land by themselves without Hashem's or Moshe's approval. They perished at the hands of the Emorites. Following the previous Aliyah's idea, I think this is the quintessential story of a self-fulfilled prophecy. First, we face a conundrum, where we could fall for the fear and not listen to the facts, we make the wrong decisions or no decisions at all, and soon after people realize, it is too late o the conditions are no longer favorable. Then we face the consequences. In this case, a delay of 40 years.

Fifth Aliyah
Years ahead, Yisrael is ready to enter Canaan, Hashem instructs the Israelites, regarding three nations that are protected, Seir (Edom), Moab, and Amon. Because these lands were the rightful inheritance of the descendants of Esau and Lot, Yisrael circles the land and approaches the land of the Emorites, requesting a passageway, which was denied.
This Aliyah shows the context for the upcoming.

Sixth Aliyah
Moshe recalls the victories against the Emorites and Bashanites, which made them obtain the land that was later given to Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh.
I recall this fragment showing a more mature Yisrael, and with the proof that Hashem was present alongside them.

Seventh Aliyah
Moshe delimits the borders within the tribes. And repeats the instructions to these tribes to cross the Jordan River together and fight together, so that they can return to their lands. Joshua who will lead Yisrael, is commanded not to fear.
