And his body was like tarshish Our Sages of blessed memory explained in Tractate Hullin (9lb): “His body was two thousand parasangs large, like the measurement of the sea named Tarshish, and that is the sea of Africa (the Mediterranean).”
A. J. Rosenberg's translation of Rashi is very unlikely because Rashi would not have translated "ימה של אפריקא" as the Mediterranean. Much more common in his time was to write the Mediterranean sea as "ים התיכון" or "ים הגדול". Therefore, it is quite likely that Rashi is referring to the Atlantic Ocean; with Tartessus (modern Spain) as the place of biblical "Tarshish".
His body was like beryl, his face had the appearance of lightning, his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and legs had the color of burnished bronze, and the sound of his speech was like the noise of a multitude.
