(45) David replied to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come against you in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the ranks of Israel, whom you have defied. (46) This very day the LORD will deliver you into my hands. I will kill you and cut off your head; and I will give jSeptuagint reads “your carcass and the carcasses.”the carcasses-j of the Philistine camp to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth. All the earth shall know that there is a God inkSo many Heb. mss. and ancient versions; other mss. and the editions read “to.” Israel. (47) And this whole assembly shall know that the LORD can give victory without sword or spear. For the battle is the LORD’s, and He will deliver you into our hands.” (48) When the Philistine began to advance toward him again, David quickly ran up to the battle line to face the Philistine.
(4) David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. (5) In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. (6) The king and his men set out for Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the region. David was told, “You will never get in here! cMeaning of Heb. uncertain.Even the blind and the lame will turn you back.” (They meant: David will never enter here.)-c (7) But David captured the stronghold of Zion; it is now the City of David. (8) On that occasion David said, “Those who attack the Jebusites cMeaning of Heb. uncertain.shall reach the water channel and [strike down] the lame and the blind, who are hateful to David.” That is why they say: “No one who is blind or lame may enter the House.”-c (9) David occupied the stronghold and renamed it the City of David; David also fortified the surrounding area, from the MillodA citadel. inward. (10) David kept growing stronger, for the LORD, the God of Hosts, was with him.
(8) The Judahites attacked Jerusalem and captured it; they put it to the sword and set the city on fire.
(30) And these are the exits from the city: On its northern side, measuring 4,500 cubits, (31) the gates of the city shall be—three gates on the north—named for the tribes of Israel: the Reuben Gate: one; the Judah Gate: one; the Levi Gate: one. (32) On the eastern side, [measuring] 4,500 cubits—there shall be three gates: the Joseph Gate: one; the Benjamin Gate: one; and the Dan Gate: one. (33) On the southern side, measuring 4,500 cubits, there shall be three gates: the Simeon Gate: one; the Issachar Gate: one; and the Zebulun Gate: one. (34) And on the western side, [measuring] 4,500 cubits—there shall be three gates: the Gad Gate: one; the Asher Gate: one; the Naphtali Gate: one. (35) Its circumference [shall be] 18,000 [cubits]; and the name of the city from that day on shall be “GD Is There.”

(א) וַיְהִ֕י כִּֽי־יָשַׁ֥ב הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ בְּבֵית֑וֹ וַה׳ הֵנִיחַֽ־ל֥וֹ מִסָּבִ֖יב מִכׇּל־אֹיְבָֽיו׃ (ב) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל־נָתָ֣ן הַנָּבִ֔יא רְאֵ֣ה נָ֔א אָנֹכִ֥י יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּבֵ֣ית אֲרָזִ֑ים וַֽאֲרוֹן֙ הָאֱלֹקִ֔ים יֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּת֥וֹךְ הַיְרִיעָֽה׃ (ג) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר נָתָן֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֖ לֵ֣ךְ עֲשֵׂ֑ה כִּ֥י ה׳ עִמָּֽךְ׃ (ד) וַיְהִ֖י בַּלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֑וּא {ס} וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־ה׳ אֶל־נָתָ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃ (ה) לֵ֤ךְ וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ אֶל־עַבְדִּ֣י אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד {ס} כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר ה׳ הַאַתָּ֛ה תִּבְנֶה־לִּ֥י בַ֖יִת לְשִׁבְתִּֽי׃ (ו) כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָשַׁ֙בְתִּי֙ בְּבַ֔יִת לְ֠מִיּ֠וֹם הַעֲלֹתִ֞י אֶת־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם וְעַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וָאֶֽהְיֶה֙ מִתְהַלֵּ֔ךְ בְּאֹ֖הֶל וּבְמִשְׁכָּֽן׃ (ז) בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר־הִתְהַלַּ֘כְתִּי֮ בְּכׇל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ הֲדָבָ֣ר דִּבַּ֗רְתִּי אֶת־אַחַד֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּ֗יתִי לִרְע֛וֹת אֶת־עַמִּ֥י אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר לָ֛מָּה לֹֽא־בְנִיתֶ֥ם לִ֖י בֵּ֥ית אֲרָזִֽים׃ (ח) וְ֠עַתָּ֠ה כֹּֽה־תֹאמַ֞ר לְעַבְדִּ֣י לְדָוִ֗ד כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ ה׳ צְבָא֔וֹת אֲנִ֤י לְקַחְתִּ֙יךָ֙ מִן־הַנָּוֶ֔ה מֵאַחַ֖ר הַצֹּ֑אן לִֽהְי֣וֹת נָגִ֔יד עַל־עַמִּ֖י עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ט) וָאֶהְיֶ֣ה עִמְּךָ֗ בְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלַ֔כְתָּ וָאַכְרִ֥תָה אֶת־כׇּל־אֹיְבֶ֖יךָ מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤תִֽי־לְךָ֙ שֵׁ֣ם גָּד֔וֹל כְּשֵׁ֥ם הַגְּדֹלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ (י) וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י מָ֠ק֠וֹם לְעַמִּ֨י לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל וּנְטַעְתִּיו֙ וְשָׁכַ֣ן תַּחְתָּ֔יו וְלֹ֥א יִרְגַּ֖ז ע֑וֹד וְלֹֽא־יֹסִ֤יפוּ בְנֵֽי־עַוְלָה֙ לְעַנּוֹת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָֽה׃ (יא) וּלְמִן־הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוִּ֤יתִי שֹֽׁפְטִים֙ עַל־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַהֲנִיחֹ֥תִי לְךָ֖ מִכׇּל־אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ וְהִגִּ֤יד לְךָ֙ ה׳ כִּי־בַ֖יִת יַעֲשֶׂה־לְּךָ֥ ה׳׃ (יב) כִּ֣י ׀ יִמְלְא֣וּ יָמֶ֗יךָ וְשָֽׁכַבְתָּ֙ אֶת־אֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ וַהֲקִימֹתִ֤י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֙ אַחֲרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֵצֵ֖א מִמֵּעֶ֑יךָ וַהֲכִינֹתִ֖י אֶת־מַמְלַכְתּֽוֹ׃ (יג) ה֥וּא יִבְנֶה־בַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִ֑י וְכֹנַנְתִּ֛י אֶת־כִּסֵּ֥א מַמְלַכְתּ֖וֹ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃ (יד) אֲנִי֙ אֶֽהְיֶה־לּ֣וֹ לְאָ֔ב וְה֖וּא יִֽהְיֶה־לִּ֣י לְבֵ֑ן אֲשֶׁר֙ בְּהַ֣עֲוֺת֔וֹ וְהֹֽכַחְתִּיו֙ בְּשֵׁ֣בֶט אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וּבְנִגְעֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃ (טו) וְחַסְדִּ֖י לֹא־יָס֣וּר מִמֶּ֑נּוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר הֲסִרֹ֙תִי֙ מֵעִ֣ם שָׁא֔וּל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֲסִרֹ֖תִי מִלְּפָנֶֽיךָ׃ (טז) וְנֶאְמַ֨ן בֵּיתְךָ֧ וּמַֽמְלַכְתְּךָ֛ עַד־עוֹלָ֖ם לְפָנֶ֑יךָ כִּֽסְאֲךָ֔ יִהְיֶ֥ה נָכ֖וֹן עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃ (יז) כְּכֹל֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וּכְכֹ֖ל הַחִזָּי֣וֹן הַזֶּ֑ה כֵּ֛ן דִּבֶּ֥ר נָתָ֖ן אֶל־דָּוִֽד׃ {פ}
“The LORD declares to you that He, the LORD, will establish a housecI.e., a dynasty; play on “house” (i.e., Temple) in v. 5. for you. (12) When your days are done and you lie with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own issue, and I will establish his kingship. (13) He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish his royal throne forever. (14) I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to Me. When he does wrong, I will chastise him dI.e., only as a human father would.with the rod of men and the affliction of mortals;-d (15) but I will never withdraw My favor from him as I withdrew it from Saul, whom I removed eLit. “from before you.”to make room for you.-e (16) Your house and your kingship shall ever be secure before you;fSeptuagint reads “before Me,” i.e., “by My favor.” your throne shall be established forever.” (17) Nathan spoke to David in accordance with all these words and all this prophecy.
(5) but look only to the site that your God ה׳ will choose amidst all your tribes as God’s habitation, to establish the divine name there. There you are to go, (6) and there you are to bring your burnt offerings and other sacrifices, your tithes and contributions,*your … contributions Lit. “the contribution(s) of your hands.” your votive and freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and flocks. (7) Together with your households,*Together with your households Moses couches both the celebration and allocation of harvests in terms of Israelite society’s basic social and economic unit. The phrasing of vv. 12, 18 conspicuously omits mention of the householder’s (primary) wife. This means that she is authorized to carry out such activity in case her husband is unavailable. The wording also tacitly includes the case of a woman (typically a widow) whose household is not headed by a man. Cf. 5.14 and note at 5.6; see further the Dictionary under “house.” you shall feast there before your God ה׳, happy in all the undertakings in which your God ה׳ has blessed you. (8) You shall not act at all as we now act here, each of us as we please, (9) because you have not yet come to the allotted haven that your God ה׳ is giving you. (10) When you cross the Jordan and settle in the land that your God ה׳ is allotting to you, and [God] grants you safety from all your enemies around you and you live in security, (11) then you must bring everything that I command you to the site where your Gd ה׳ will choose to establish the divine name: your burnt offerings and other sacrifices, your tithes and contributions,*your … contributions See note at v. 6. and all the choice votive offerings that you vow to ה׳.
(כו) וְאָשִׁ֤יבָה שֹׁפְטַ֙יִךְ֙ כְּבָרִ֣אשֹׁנָ֔ה וְיֹעֲצַ֖יִךְ כְּבַתְּחִלָּ֑ה אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן יִקָּ֤רֵא לָךְ֙ עִ֣יר הַצֶּ֔דֶק קִרְיָ֖ה נֶאֱמָנָֽה׃ (כז) צִיּ֖וֹן בְּמִשְׁפָּ֣ט תִּפָּדֶ֑ה וְשָׁבֶ֖יהָ בִּצְדָקָֽה׃
(26) I will restore your magistrates as of old,And your counselors as of yore.After that you shall be called Righteousness City, Faithful Metropolis. Zion shall be saved by justice, by righteousness those who return to her.
(17) Now ה׳ had said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, (18) since Abraham is about to become a great and mighty nation and all the nations of the earth are to bless themselves by him? (19) For I have chosen him, so that he may instruct his children and his household after him to keep the way of ה׳ by doing what is right and just, in order that ה׳ may bring about for Abraham what has been promised him.”

O God, endow the king with Your judgments,
the king’s son with Your righteousness; (2) that he may judge Your people rightly,
Your lowly ones, justly. (3) Let the mountains produce well-being for the people,
the hills, the reward of justice. (4) Let him champion the lowly among the people,
deliver the needy folk,
and crush those who wrong them. (5) Let them fear You as long as the sun shines,
while the moon lasts, generations on end. (6) Let him be like rain that falls on a mown field,
like a downpour of rain on the ground, (7) that the righteous may flourish in his time,
and well-being abound, till the moon is no more. (8) Let him rule from sea to sea,
from the river to the ends of the earth. (9) Let desert-dwellers kneel before him,
and his enemies lick the dust. (10) Let kings of Tarshish and the islands pay tribute,
kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. (11) Let all kings bow to him,
and all nations serve him.
(12) For he saves the needy who cry out,
the lowly who have no helper. (13) He cares about the poor and the needy;
He brings the needy deliverance. (14) He redeems them from fraud and lawlessness;

(15) So let him live, and receive gold of Sheba;
let prayers for him be said always,
