Chazal taught: The one who observes, honors, and enjoys Shabbat will enjoy even more reward in this world than what is set aside for him in the Olam Haba, we read “Then you can enjoy from Hashem, I will set you astride the heights of the earth, and let you enjoy the heritage of your father Ya'akov, for Hashem’s mouth has spoken.”
Why did Tora repeat the giving of the Shabbat requirement to Yisrael through Yeshiya, seeing as he had already given it to Yisrael at the time of Moshe? The answer is found in the previous passuk (58:13). Evidently, our ancestors were making their “own ways,” finding their “own pleasure,” and speaking their “own words” on the Shabbat, rather than Hashems.
Hashem the merciful desired and still desires that Am Yisrael obey this mizvot willingly, and from their heart.
In principle Mishlei is telling us, “My son(Yisrael), give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.”
Through Chezekiel, Hashem said concerning Yisrael, “I instituted my Sabbath for them as a sign between me and them, so they would know that I am the Lord, who has set them apart. … They didn’t live life consistent with my statutes, they profaned my Shabbatot.”
Shabbat is truthfully important to Hashem and Hashem want us to enjoy the day of rest fully. On this note Chazal stated that anyone who makes Shabbat enjoyable shall merit longevity.
Shabbat & The Home
Reuben ben Hoshke or Yalkut Ha’Ruveni states that when one does not make Shabbat enjoyable, although given the opportunity to do so, is comparable to stealing from Hashem, (God-forbid) when Hashem gives one parnasa to enjoy Shabbat and this individual does not do so. If one becomes aware and has already transgressed, they should rectify this with extra involvement in Tora and Mitzvot.
Tikunei Ha’Zohar says that one who has the ability to make Shabbat enjoyable and does not do so causes word for "Oneg" (Joy)to be rearranged into the word “Nega” (affliction), and this causes one’s house and wealth to be destroyed.
Greeting Angels
Chazal also write that Holy angels visit one’s home every Shabbat and look at the table. Therefore everyone should be careful not place any disgraceful object on the table. Even single individuals sitting alone should dress well not set the table in a way that is not respectful and bringing honor to Shabbat.
Women
"The women of Hashem are a large army" and should not be forgotten nor are they. Yes, women too are equally obligated in the mitzvah of making Oneg Shabbat (Kaf H'Chaim). In general, women have a prodigious merit in this regard, for they are entrusted with food preparation, setting the table, and the like, besides for the precious mitzvah of lighting Shabbat candles which is also included in the mitzvah of Oneg Shabbat.
Oneg?
Yeshayahu ben Avraham Ha-Levi Horowitz or Shelah brings down that it is for this reason that Chazal did not command us to “enjoy ourselves on Shabbat,” rather, they instructed us to “make Oneg Shabbat” in order to hint that one should intend to make Shabbat enjoyable due to the honor of Shabbat, not for one’s own benefit.
We read, “And you shall call Shabbat an Oneg,” for one should designate the enjoyment in honor of Shabbat. The Ben Ish Chai says that one who intends for the Oneg to be in honor of Shabbat along with one’s own personal enjoyment fulfills this mitzvah, the mitzvah is however still incomplete until one focuses everything on Shabbat for the sake of Heaven.
Shabbat Shalom
The first principle [is] to believe in the existence of the Creator, may He be blessed, and that is that there is a Being complete in all the ways of existence. He is the cause of the existence of all other things in existence. Through Him does their existence survive and from Him is their survival. And one cannot imagine the lack of His existence, since in the lack of His existence, the existence of all things dissolves and no thing's existence would survive. And if we were to imagine the lack of all other things in existence besides Him, the existence of God, may He be blessed, would not dissolve and not be diminished. Unity and Mastery only belong to God, may His name be blessed, since He suffices in His [own] existence. It is enough for Him to be by Himself and He doesn't need the existence of anything else. And everything besides Him of the angels and the bodies of the planets and what is in them and what is below them - all need Him for their existence. And this is the first principle, [and] it is indicated by the 'first commandment' - "I am the Lord, your God" (Exodus 20:2).
