מִיָּד כׇּל אֶחָד וְאֶחָד נַעֲשָׂה לוֹ אוֹהֵב וּמָסַר לוֹ דָּבָר,
שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״עָלִיתָ לַמָּרוֹם שָׁבִיתָ שֶּׁבִי לָקַחְתָּ מַתָּנוֹת בָּאָדָם״ —
בִּשְׂכַר שֶׁקְּרָאוּךְ ״אָדָם״, לָקַחְתָּ מַתָּנוֹת.
אַף מַלְאַךְ הַמָּוֶת מָסַר לוֹ דָּבָר, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״וַיִּתֵּן אֶת הַקְּטֹרֶת וַיְכַפֵּר עַל הָעָם״,
וְאוֹמֵר: ״וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּין הַמֵּתִים וּבֵין הַחַיִּים וְגוֹ׳״
Immediately each and every one of them became Moses' friend.
Each gave him something, as Scripture says:
"You went to the heights and took a captive; you took gifts for humankind."
Because they called you a human (adam; for the angels had earlier quoted Ps. 8:5 in their argument), you took gifts.
Even the angel of death gave him something, as Scripture says:
"He put on the incense and made expiation for the people; he stood between the dead and the living until the plague was checked" (Num. 17:12f).
Immediately the blessed Holy One called to Yefehfiyah the prince of Torah and he gave Moses the Torah, edited and bounded. All the ministering angels became his friends and each one gave him some healing formula or secret names that proceed from each parashah, along with their applications . . . . This is the glorious application [of Torah] which the angels gave him through Yefehfiyah, prince of Torah, and through Metatron, angel of the Presence.
Moses gave it to Eleazar, and Eleazar to Pinhas his son, who is Elijah the glorious high priest, may he be remembered for good.
