Ma Tovu
How great are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel!
As for me, through Your abundant grace, I enter your house to worship with awe in Your sacred place.
O Lord, I love the House where you dwell, and the place where your glory tabernacles.
I shall prostrate myself and bow; I shall kneel before the Lord my Maker.
To You, Eternal One, goes my prayer: may this be a time of your favor. In Your abundant love, O God, answer me with the Truth of Your salvation.

Hallelujah. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the sky, His stronghold. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him for His exceeding greatness. Praise Him with blasts of the horn; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with lute and pipe. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with loud-clashing cymbals. Let all that breathes praise the LORD. Hallelujah.

Psalm
Praise the LORD, for He is good, His steadfast love is eternal. Let Israel declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.” Let the house of Aaron declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.” Let those who fear the LORD declare, “His steadfast love is eternal.”
This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our sight. This is the day that the LORD has made— let us exult and rejoice on it. O LORD, deliver us! O LORD, let us prosper! May he who enters be blessed in the name of the LORD; we bless you from the House of the LORD.
You are my God and I will praise You; You are my God and I will extol You. Praise the LORD for He is good, His steadfast love is eternal.

Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over His people Israel. Therefore, listen to the LORD’s command! (2) “Thus said the LORD of Hosts: I am exacting the penalty for what Amalek did to Israel, for the assault he made upon them on the road, on their way up from Egypt. (3) Now go, attack Amalek, and proscribe all that belongs to him. Spare no one, but kill alike men and women, infants and sucklings, oxen and sheep, camels and asses!” (4) Saul mustered the troops and enrolled them at Telaim: 200,000 men on foot, and 10,000 men of Judah. (5) Then Saul advanced as far as the city of Amalek and lay in wait in the wadi. (6) Saul said to the Kenites, “Come, withdraw at once from among the Amalekites, that I may not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they left Egypt.” So the Kenites withdrew from among the Amalekites. (7) Saul destroyed Amalek from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is close to Egypt, (8) and he captured King Agag of Amalek alive. He proscribed all the people, putting them to the sword; (9) but Saul and the troops spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the second-born, the lambs, and all else that was of value. They would not proscribe them; they proscribed only what was cheap and worthless. (10) The word of the LORD then came to Samuel: (11) “I regret that I made Saul king, for he has turned away from Me and has not carried out My commands.” Samuel was distressed and he entreated the LORD all night long. (12) Early in the morning Samuel went to meet Saul. Samuel was told, “Saul went to Carmel, where he erected a monument for himself; then he left and went on down to Gilgal.” (13) When Samuel came to Saul, Saul said to him, “Blessed are you of the LORD! I have fulfilled the LORD’s command.” (14) “Then what,” demanded Samuel, “is this bleating of sheep in my ears, and the lowing of oxen that I hear?” (15) Saul answered, “They were brought from the Amalekites, for the troops spared the choicest of the sheep and oxen for sacrificing to the LORD your God. And we proscribed the rest.” (16) Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night!” “Speak,” he replied. (17) And Samuel said, “You may look small to yourself, but you are the head of the tribes of Israel. The LORD anointed you king over Israel, (18) and the LORD sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and proscribe the sinful Amalekites; make war on them until you have exterminated them.’ (19) Why did you disobey the LORD and swoop down on the spoil in defiance of the LORD’s will?” (20) Saul said to Samuel, “But I did obey the LORD! I performed the mission on which the LORD sent me: I captured King Agag of Amalek, and I proscribed Amalek, (21) and the troops took from the spoil some sheep and oxen—the best of what had been proscribed—to sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal.” (22) But Samuel said: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As much as in obedience to the LORD’s command? Surely, obedience is better than sacrifice, Compliance than the fat of rams. (23) For rebellion is like the sin of divination, Defiance, like the iniquity of teraphim. Because you rejected the LORD’s command, He has rejected you as king.” (24) Saul said to Samuel, “I did wrong to transgress the LORD’s command and your instructions; but I was afraid of the troops and I yielded to them. (25) Please, forgive my offense and come back with me, and I will bow low to the LORD.” (26) But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not go back with you; for you have rejected the LORD’s command, and the LORD has rejected you as king over Israel.” (27) As Samuel turned to leave, Saul seized the corner of his robe, and it tore. (28) And Samuel said to him, “The LORD has this day torn the kingship over Israel away from you and has given it to another who is worthier than you. (29) Moreover, the Glory of Israel does not deceive or change His mind, for He is not human that He should change His mind.” (30) But [Saul] pleaded, “I did wrong. Please, honor me in the presence of the elders of my people and in the presence of Israel, and come back with me until I have bowed low to the LORD your God.” (31) So Samuel followed Saul back, and Saul bowed low to the LORD. (32) Samuel said, “Bring forward to me King Agag of Amalek.” Agag approached him with faltering steps; and Agag said, “Ah, bitter death is at hand!” (33) Samuel said: “As your sword has bereaved women, So shall your mother be bereaved among women.” And Samuel cut Agag down before the LORD at Gilgal. (34) Samuel then departed for Ramah, and Saul went up to his home at Gibeah of Saul.

Prayer for the Community
May He who blessed our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, bless all this holy congregation, together with all other holy congregations: them, their spouses, their sons and daughters, and all that is theirs. May He bless those who unite to form synagogues for prayer and those who come there to pray; those who provide lamps for light and wine for Kiddush and Havdala, food for visitors and charity for the poor, and all who faithfully occupy themselves with the needs of the community. May the Holy One, blessed be He, give them their reward; may He remove from them all illness, grant them complete healing, and forgive all their sins. May He send blessing and success to all the work of their hands, together with all Israel their brethren; and let us say: Amen.

Prayer for the Welfare of the State of Israel and its defence forces
May He who blessed our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, bless the State of Israel, its leaders and advisors in the land which He swore unto our fathers to give us. Put into their hearts the love and fear of You to uphold it with justice and righteousness, and may we be worthy in our days to witness the fulfilment of the words of Your servants, the prophets: “For out of Zion shall go forth the Law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem”. Heavenly Father: Remember the Israel Defence Forces, guardians of our Holy Land. Protect them from all distress and anguish, and send blessing and success to all the work of their hands. Grant peace in Your Holy land and everlasting happiness to all its inhabitants, so that Jacob shall again have peace and tranquillity, with none to make him afraid. Spread the tabernacle of Your peace over all the dwellers on earth. May this be Your will; and let us say, Amen.

Anim Zemirot – Song of Glory
Leader: I will sing sweet psalms and I will weave songs,to You for whom my soul longs.
Congregation: My soul yearns for the shelter of Your hand, that all Your mystic secrets I might understand.
Leader: Whenever I speak of Your glory above,my heart is yearning for Your love.
Congregation: So Your glories I will proclaim, and in songs of love give honour to Your name.
Leader: I will tell of Your glory though I have not seen You,imagine and describe You, though I have not known You.
8
Congregation: By the hand of Your prophets, through Your servants’ mystery,You gave a glimpse of Your wondrous majesty.
Leader: Recounting Your grandeur and Your glory,of Your great deeds they told the story.
Congregation: They depicted You, though not as You are,but as You do: Your acts, Your power.
Leader: They represented You in many visions;through them all You are One without divisions.
Congregation: They saw You, now old, then young,Your head with grey, with black hair hung.
Leader: Age on the day of judgment, yet on the day of war,a young warrior with mighty hands they saw.
Congregation: Triumph like a helmet He wore on his head; His right hand and holy arm to victory have led.
Leader: His curls are filled with dew-drops of light,His locks with fragments of the night.
Congregation: He will glory in me, for He delights in me;My diadem of beauty He shall be.
Leader: His head is like pure beaten gold;Engraved on His brow, His sacred name behold.
Congregation: For grace and glory, beauty and renown,His people have adorned Him with a crown.
Leader: Like a youth’s, His hair in locks unfurls; Its black tresses flowing in curls.
Congregation: Jerusalem, His splendour, is the dwelling place of right;may He prize it as His highest delight.
Leader: Like a crown in His hand may His treasured people be,a turban of beauty and of majesty.
Congregation: He bore them, carried them, with a crown He adorned them. They were precious in His sight, and He honoured them.
Leader: His glory is on me; my glory is on Him.He is near to me when I call to Him.
Congregation: He is bright and rosy; red will be His dress, when He comes from Edom, treading the winepress.
Leader: He showed the tefillin-knot to Moses, humble, wise, when the Lord’s likeness was before his eyes.
Congregation: He delights in His people; the humble He does raise –He glories in them; He sits enthroned upon their praise.
Leader: Your first word, Your call to every age, is true:O seek the people who seek You.
Congregation: My many songs please take and hearand may my hymn of joy to You come near.
Leader: May my praise be a crown for Your head, and like incense before You, the prayers I have said.
Congregation: May a poor man’s song be precious in Your eyes, like a song sung over sacrifice.
Leader: To the One who sustains all, may my blessing take flight:Creator, Life-Giver, God of right and might.
Congregation: And when I offer blessing, to me Your head incline:accepting it as spice, fragrant and fine.
Leader: May my prayer be to You sweet song. For You my soul will always long.
Yours, Lord, are the greatness and the power, the glory, the majesty and splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all. Who can tell of the mighty acts of the Lord and make all His praise be heard?
