רֶגַע שֶׁל עִבְרִית A Moment of Hebrew
וְיָצַ֣קְתָּ לּ֗וֹ אַרְבַּע֙ טַבְּעֹ֣ת זָהָ֔ב וְנָ֣תַתָּ֔ה עַ֖ל אַרְבַּ֣ע פַּעֲמֹתָ֑יו וּשְׁתֵּ֣י טַבָּעֹ֗ת עַל־צַלְעוֹ֙ הָֽאֶחָ֔ת וּשְׁתֵּי֙ טַבָּעֹ֔ת עַל־צַלְע֖וֹ הַשֵּׁנִֽית׃
Cast four gold rings for the aron (ark), to be attached to its four feet, two rings on one of its sides and two on the other side.
לִצֹּק/לָצֶקֶת litzok, latzeket (שֹׁרֶשׁ י.צ.ק)
- To pour a liquid
- To create a shape by pouring liquid (like metal or plaster) into a mold and letting it harden.
מַצֶּקֶת (matzeket) = Ladle
מוּצָק (mutzak) = Solid
יְצִיקַת בַּרְזֶל (yetzikat barzel) = Cast iron skillet
Find the Word!
- Twice in Sefer Bereishit, Yaakov pours oil on stones, in places where he experiences God’s revelation. This happens to Yaakov on his way to Haran and on his way back to Canaan. Can you find both events, and the words for pouring that come from this שֹׁרֶשׁ (shoresh, root)? (Hint: Look at Bereishit 28:18 and Bereishit 35:14).
