תַּ֭שְׁמִיעֵנִי שָׂשׂ֣וֹן וְשִׂמְחָ֑ה תָּ֝גֵ֗לְנָה עֲצָמ֥וֹת דִּכִּֽיתָ׃ הַסְתֵּ֣ר פָּ֭נֶיךָ מֵחֲטָאָ֑י וְֽכׇל־עֲוֺ֖נֹתַ֣י מְחֵֽה׃ לֵ֣ב טָ֭הוֹר בְּרָא־לִ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְר֥וּחַ נָ֝כ֗וֹן חַדֵּ֥שׁ בְּקִרְבִּֽי׃ אַל־תַּשְׁלִיכֵ֥נִי מִלְּפָנֶ֑יךָ וְר֥וּחַ קׇ֝דְשְׁךָ֗ אַל־תִּקַּ֥ח מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ הָשִׁ֣יבָה לִּ֭י שְׂשׂ֣וֹן יִשְׁעֶ֑ךָ וְר֖וּחַ נְדִיבָ֣ה תִסְמְכֵֽנִי׃ אֲלַמְּדָ֣ה פֹשְׁעִ֣ים דְּרָכֶ֑יךָ וְ֝חַטָּאִ֗ים אֵלֶ֥יךָ יָשֽׁוּבוּ׃ הַצִּ֘ילֵ֤נִי מִדָּמִ֨ים ׀ אֱֽלֹהִ֗ים אֱלֹהֵ֥י תְשׁוּעָתִ֑י תְּרַנֵּ֥ן לְ֝שׁוֹנִ֗י צִדְקָתֶֽךָ׃ אֲ֭דֹנָי שְׂפָתַ֣י תִּפְתָּ֑ח וּ֝פִ֗י יַגִּ֥יד תְּהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃ כִּ֤י ׀ לֹא־תַחְפֹּ֣ץ זֶ֣בַח וְאֶתֵּ֑נָה ע֝וֹלָ֗ה לֹ֣א תִרְצֶֽה׃ זִ֥בְחֵ֣י אֱלֹהִים֮ ר֤וּחַ נִשְׁבָּ֫רָ֥ה לֵב־נִשְׁבָּ֥ר וְנִדְכֶּ֑ה אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים לֹ֣א תִבְזֶֽה׃ הֵיטִ֣יבָה בִ֭רְצוֹנְךָ אֶת־צִיּ֑וֹן תִּ֝בְנֶ֗ה חוֹמ֥וֹת יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃

Psalms 51:10-20

10) Make me to hear joy and gladness: that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. 11) Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

12) Create in me a [pure] heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

13) Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy holy spirit from me.

14) Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with a willing spirit.

15) Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways; and sinners shall return to Thee.

16) Save me from bloodguilt, O God, Thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness.

17) O Lord, open my lips; and my mouth shall [declare] Thy praise.

18) You do not take pleasure if I bring sacrifices; You do not desire burnt offerings;

19) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.

20) Do good in Thy favour to Tzion: build Thou the walls of Yerushalayim.

12) לֵב טָהוֹר בְּרָא־לִי אֱלֹקִים וְרוּחַ נָכוֹן חַדֵּשׁ בְּקִרְבִּי׃

13) אַל־תַּשְׁלִיכֵנִי מִלְּפָנֶיךָ וְרוּחַ קׇדְשְׁךָ אַל־תִּקַּח מִמֶּנִּי

17) אדושם שְׂפָתַי תִּפְתָּח וּפִי יַגִּיד תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃

דָּרֵשׁ רַבִּי עַוִּירָא וְאִיתֵּימָא רַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בֶּן לֵוִי: שִׁבְעָה שֵׁמוֹת יֵשׁ לוֹ לְיֵצֶר הָרָע. הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא קְרָאוֹ ״רַע״, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״כִּי יֵצֶר לֵב הָאָדָם רַע מִנְּעוּרָיו״. מֹשֶׁה קְרָאוֹ ״עָרֵל״, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״וּמַלְתֶּם אֵת עׇרְלַת לְבַבְכֶם״. דָּוִד קְרָאוֹ ״טָמֵא״, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״לֵב טָהוֹר בְּרָא לִי אֱלֹהִים״, מִכְּלָל דְּאִיכָּא טָמֵא.

Sukkah 52a:7

§ Rabbi Avira, and some say Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi, taught: The evil inclination has seven names. The Holy One, Blessed be He, called it evil, as it is stated: “For the inclination of a man’s heart is evil from his youth” (Genesis 8:21). Moses called it uncircumcised, as it is stated: “And circumcise the foreskin of your hearts” (Deuteronomy 10:16). David called it impure, as it is stated: “Create for me a pure heart, O God” (Psalms 51:12); by inference, there is an impure heart that is the evil inclination.

O Lord, You shall open my lips Forgive me so that I will be able to open my lips to recite Your praise.

Jerusalem Talmud Berakhot 4:4:3

Rebbi Yose from Sidon in the name of Rebbi Yoḥanan: Before one’s prayer one says (Ps. 51:17) “Master, open my lips that my mouth may proclaim Your praise.” After one’s prayer, one says (Ps. 19:15): “May the sayings of my mouth be agreeable and the thoughts of my heart, before You, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Rebbi Yudan used to say both of them before his prayer.
