יהוה said to Abram, “Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.

I will make of you a great nation,
And I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
And you shall be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you
And curse the one who curses you;
And all the families of the earth
Shall bless themselves by you.”

Abram went forth as יהוה had commanded him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

Additional context for the Hero's Journey via Medium
Discussion Questions:
  • How can we apply the hero's journey model to other contemporary stories (i.e. The Alchemist, The Wizard of Oz, Little Mermaid, Hercules)?
  • Does the hero's journey model/Abraham's story work as inspiration to the idea of finding a calling? Why/why not?
  • How do we listen to what G-d wants from us?
  • What if we have no idea what our calling is? Or if we followed a path that we thought was our calling but it was wrong?
  • How does a calling reflect become one's truest, most whole self?
  • How is your calling connected to tikkun olam?
