(8) But they defied Me and refused to listen to Me. Not one of them cast away the detestable things they were drawn to, nor did they give up the lures of Egypt. Then I resolved to pour out My fury upon them, to vent all My anger upon them there, in the land of Egypt.

(א) וימרו בי. הם הרשעים רובם של ישראל שמתו בשלשת ימי אפלה.

(1) But they rebelled against Me They are the wicked, the majority of Israel, who died in the three days of darkness.

(א) וימת מלך מצרים. עתה יוכל משה לשוב אל מצרים. וישראל עשו תשובה. כי יחזקאל הזכיר שהיו ישראל עובדים גלולי מצרים. על כן ענשם השם ותחת אשר לא עבדוהו עבדו אכזרים:

(1) THAT THE KING OF EGYPT DIED.... Yisrael did Teshuva, because Yechezkel (20:8) notes that they worshipped the idols of Egypt. It was because of this that Hashem punished them. As a punishment for not serving God they served cruel masters.
