May there be delight, Adonai, our God, unto us, May the creativity of our hands be directed, and may the creations of our hands be enduring!

(16) On the third day, as morning dawned, there was thunder, and lightning, and a dense cloud upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the horn; and all the people who were in the camp trembled. (17) Moses led the people out of the camp toward God, and they took their places at the foot of the mountain. (18) Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke, for יהוה had come down upon it in fire; the smoke rose like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled violently. (19) The blare of the horn grew louder and louder. As Moses spoke, God answered him in thunder.

(16) And it was on the third day, on the sixth of the month, in the time of the morning, that on the mountain there were voices of thunders, and lightnings, and mighty clouds of smoke, and a voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people in the camp trembled. (17) And Mosheh brought forth the people from the camp to meet the glorious Presence of Shechina; and suddenly the Lord of the world uprooted the mountain, and lifted it in the air, and it became luminous as a window, and they stood beneath the mountain.

In the upper register, Mt. Sinai is trembling as the people of Israel stand below: some face the mountain in file, while others tremble. Moses, two horns of light protruding from his forehead, appears on the left. In the lower register, the Jews of Safed celebrate the festival of Shavuot. 1969

Moses holds the Tablets of the law facing the children of Israel, who can be seen through a window from inside Mount Sinai. Remains of an earlier version of the illustration can be seen in a hand on the right side of the Tablets and rippled strips of a lighter shade within the dark area below the window.
