זָכ֕וֹר אֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֛ה יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ לְמִרְיָ֑ם בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ בְּצֵאתְכֶ֥ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ {ס}
Remember what your God יהוה did to Miriam on the journey after you left Egypt.
(ח) הִשָּׁ֧מֶר בְּנֶֽגַע־הַצָּרַ֛עַת לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מְאֹ֖ד וְלַעֲשׂ֑וֹת כְּכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁר־יוֹר֨וּ אֶתְכֶ֜ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים הַלְוִיִּ֛ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּיתִ֖ם תִּשְׁמְר֥וּ לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃
(8) In cases of a skin affection be most careful to do exactly as the levitical priests instruct you. Take care to do as I have commanded them.
שלא לתלוש סימני צרעת - שנמנענו מלקוץ סימני צרעת או לכוותה עד שישתנה מראה, ועל זה נאמר (דברים כד ח) השמר בנגע הצרעת וגו'. ולשון ספרי, השמר בנגע הצרעת בלא תעשה, ולשון משנה (נגעים פ''ז, מ''ד) התולש סימני הטמאה והכווה את המחיה עובר בלא תעשה.
To not detach signs of tzaraat (a Biblical skin disease): That we have been prevented from cutting off signs of tzaraat or to burn it to the point that its appearance changes. And about this is it stated (Deuteronomy 24:8), "Be careful with the blemish of tzaraat, etc. And the language of Sifrei is "'Be careful with the blemish of tzaraat' is a negative commandment." And the language of the Mishnah Negaim 7:4 is "One who removes the signs of impurity or burns the healthy patch of skin transgresses a negative commandment."
ככל אשר יורו אתכם. אִם לְהַסְגִּיר אִם לְהַחֲלִיט אִם לְטַהֵר:
ככל אשר יורו אתכם ACCORDING TO ALL THAT [THE PRIESTS …] SHALL TEACH YOU — whether to place the leper in quarantine, or to declare him definitely unclean or clean.
השמר בנגע הצרעת שלא תהדר פני גדול לפטור מלשלחו חוץ לשלש מחנות שהרי זכור את אשר עשה ה׳ אלוקיך למרים שהיתה אחות למלך וכהן גדול ואעפ״כ נסגרה חוץ למחנה שבעת ימים.
השמר בנגע הצרעת, “be most careful with the plague known as tzoraat;” do not excuse a prominent member of society from submitting to the examinations prescribed for fear of embarrassing him by exiling him from the Jewish community until he has been cured. This is why the Torah reminds us to remember what happened to Miriam who was afflicted with this disease and had to remain outside the camp for seven days during the process of being purified. There was hardly a person amongst the Israelites who was more prominent, being the sister of the people’s leader and its High Priest. (Rash’bam)
