בעקבות הרמב"ם, התפיסה הרווחת כיום ביהדות היא כי כל הביטויים של דמות האל והגשמתו, כגון 'ידו החזקה וזרועו הנטויה' הם אלגוריים ואינם כפשוטם. הדבר נכון לגבי הרבה מאוד מהביטויים הללו במקרא. אבל במקומות רבים אין המקרא יוצא מידי פשוטו.
בדף זה אנסה לפרט את המקומות שבהם קשה לפרש את הביטויים המגשימים כמופשטים, גם לפי הפשט. ממקורות אלו עולה תמונה של אל בדמות אדם, עם איברי אדם, שניתן לראותו, ידיעתו מוגבלת ופעולותיו מתבצעות בתוך המרחב. בנוסף, קיימים רמזים לכך שלעיתים 'מלאך יהו-יהוה במקרא הוא האל עצמו.

(26) Above the expanse over their heads was the semblance of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and on top, upon this semblance of a throne, there was the semblance of a human form.(27) From what appeared as his loins up, I saw a gleam as of amber—what looked like a fire encased in a frame;-d and from what appeared as his loins down, I saw what looked like fire. There was a radiance all about him.(28) Like the appearance of the bow which shines in the clouds on a day of rain, such was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. That was the appearance of the semblance of the Presence of the LORD. When I beheld it, I flung myself down on my face. And I heard the voice of someone speaking.

(18) He said, “Oh, let me behold Your Presence!”

(ד) יהוה ׀ בְּֽהֵ֘יכַ֤ל קׇדְשׁ֗וֹ יהוה בַּשָּׁמַ֢יִם כִּ֫סְא֥וֹ עֵינָ֥יו יֶחֱז֑וּ עַפְעַפָּ֥יו יִ֝בְחֲנ֗וּ בְּנֵ֣י אָדָֽם׃
(4) The LORD is in His holy palace;
the LORD—His throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold, His gaze searches mankind.

(ט) עָ֘לָ֤ה עָשָׁ֨ן ׀בְּאַפּ֗וֹ וְאֵשׁ־מִפִּ֥יו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּ֝חָלִ֗ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃
(9) smoke went up from His nostrils,
from His mouth came devouring fire;
live coals blazed forth from Him.

(9) The LORD put out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: Herewith I put My words into your mouth.

(ט) וְאִם־זְר֖וֹעַ כָּאֵ֥ל ׀ לָ֑ךְ וּ֝בְק֗וֹל כָּמֹ֥הוּ תַרְעֵֽם׃
(9) Have you an arm like God’s?
Can you thunder with a voice like His?

(טו) וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ הַֽחַרְטֻמִּם֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה אֶצְבַּ֥ע אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִ֑וא וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק לֵב־פַּרְעֹה֙ וְלֹֽא־שָׁמַ֣ע אֲלֵהֶ֔ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יהוה׃ {ס}
(15) and the magician-priests said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart stiffened and he would not heed them, as יהוה had spoken.

(ד) כִּֽי־אֶרְאֶ֣ה שָׁ֭מֶיךָ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה אֶצְבְּעֹתֶ֑יךָ יָרֵ֥חַ וְ֝כוֹכָבִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר כּוֹנָֽנְתָּה׃
(4) When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
the moon and stars that You set in place,

(א) בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֡וּא יִפְקֹ֣ד יהוה בְּחַרְבּ֨וֹ הַקָּשָׁ֜ה וְהַגְּדוֹלָ֣ה וְהַחֲזָקָ֗ה עַ֤ל לִוְיָתָן֙ נָחָ֣שׁ בָּרִ֔חַ וְעַל֙ לִוְיָתָ֔ן נָחָ֖שׁ עֲקַלָּת֑וֹן וְהָרַ֥ג אֶת־הַתַּנִּ֖ין אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּיָּֽם׃ {ס}
(1) In that day the LORD will punish,
With His great, cruel, mighty sword
Leviathan the Elusive Serpent—
Leviathan the Twisting Serpent;
He will slay the Dragon of the sea.

(טו) וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח חִ֭צָּיו וַיְפִיצֵ֑ם וּבְרָקִ֥ים רָ֝֗ב וַיְהֻמֵּֽם׃
(15) He let fly His shafts and scattered them;
He discharged lightning and routed them.
(ו) בְּר֣וֹק בָּ֭רָק וּתְפִיצֵ֑ם שְׁלַ֥ח חִ֝צֶּ֗יךָ וּתְהֻמֵּֽם׃
(6) Make lightning flash and scatter them;
shoot Your arrows and rout them.

(13) And she called יהוה who spoke to her, “You Are El-roi,” by which she meant, “Have I not gone on seeing after my being seen!”

(לא) וַיִּקְרָ֧א יַעֲקֹ֛ב שֵׁ֥ם הַמָּק֖וֹם פְּנִיאֵ֑ל כִּֽי־רָאִ֤יתִי אֱלֹהִים֙ פָּנִ֣ים אֶל־פָּנִ֔ים וַתִּנָּצֵ֖ל נַפְשִֽׁי׃
(31) So Jacob named the place Peniel, meaning, “I have seen a divine being face to face, yet my life has been preserved.”

(9) Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy elders of Israel ascended;(10) and they saw the God of Israel—under whose feet was the likeness of a pavement of sapphire, like the very sky for purity.(11) Yet [God] did not raise a hand against the leaders of the Israelites; they beheld God, and they ate and drank.

(יט) וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לָכֵ֖ן שְׁמַ֣ע דְּבַר־יהוה רָאִ֤יתִי אֶת־יהוה יֹשֵׁ֣ב עַל־כִּסְא֔וֹ וְכׇל־צְבָ֤א הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ עֹמֵ֣ד עָלָ֔יו מִֽימִינ֖וֹ וּמִשְּׂמֹאלֽוֹ׃
(19) But [Micaiah] said, “I call upon you to hear the word of the LORD! I saw the LORD seated upon His throne, with all the host of heaven standing in attendance to the right and to the left of Him.

(1) In the year that King Uzziah died, I beheld my Lord seated on a high and lofty throne; and the skirts of His robe filled the Temple.(2) Seraphs stood in attendance on Him. Each of them had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his legs, and with two he would fly.
(3) And one would call to the other,
“Holy, holy, holy!
The LORD of Hosts!
His presence fills all the earth!”
(4) The doorposts would shake at the sound of the one who called, and the House kept filling with smoke.(5) I cried,
“Woe is me; I am lost!
For I am a man of unclean lips-b
And I live among a people
Of unclean lips;
Yet my own eyes have beheld
The King LORD of Hosts.”

(1) I saw my LORD standing by the altar, and He said: Strike the capitals so that the thresholds quake, and make an end of the first of them all.-a And I will slay the last of them with the sword; not one of them shall escape, and not one of them shall survive.

(15) Then I, justified, will behold Your face;

(ד) וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ הָ֣בָה ׀ נִבְנֶה־לָּ֣נוּ עִ֗יר וּמִגְדָּל֙ וְרֹאשׁ֣וֹ בַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְנַֽעֲשֶׂה־לָּ֖נוּ שֵׁ֑ם פֶּן־נָפ֖וּץ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י כׇל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃(ה)וַיֵּ֣רֶד יהוה לִרְאֹ֥ת אֶת־הָעִ֖יר וְאֶת־הַמִּגְדָּ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנ֖וּ בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃
(4) And they said, “Come, let us build us a city, and a tower with its top in the sky, to make a name for ourselves; else we shall be scattered all over the world.”(5) יהוה came down to look at the city and tower that humanity had built,
הכצעקתה
(כ) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יהוה זַעֲקַ֛ת סְדֹ֥ם וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה כִּי־רָ֑בָּה וְחַ֨טָּאתָ֔ם כִּ֥י כָבְדָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃(כא)אֵֽרְדָה־נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה הַכְּצַעֲקָתָ֛הּ הַבָּ֥אָה אֵלַ֖י עָשׂ֣וּ ׀ כָּלָ֑ה וְאִם־לֹ֖א אֵדָֽעָה׃
(20) Then יהוה said, “The outrage of Sodom and Gomorrah is so great, and their sin so grave!(21) I will go down to see whether they have acted altogether according to the outcry that has reached Me; if not, I will take note.”
אשר בלבבך
(ב) וְזָכַרְתָּ֣ אֶת־כׇּל־הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הוֹלִֽיכְךָ֜ יהוה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ זֶ֛ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר לְמַ֨עַן עַנֹּֽתְךָ֜ לְנַסֹּֽתְךָ֗ לָדַ֜עַת אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֧ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֛ הֲתִשְׁמֹ֥ר מִצְוֺתָ֖ו אִם־לֹֽא׃
(2) Remember the long way that your God יהוה has made you travel in the wilderness these past forty years, in order to test you by hardships to learn what was in your hearts: whether you would keep the divine commandments or not.
האם אוהבים בכל לבבכם
(ד) לֹ֣א תִשְׁמַ֗ע אֶל־דִּבְרֵי֙ הַנָּבִ֣יא הַה֔וּא א֛וֹ אֶל־חוֹלֵ֥ם הַחֲל֖וֹם הַה֑וּא כִּ֣י מְנַסֶּ֞ה יהוה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ אֶתְכֶ֔ם לָדַ֗עַת הֲיִשְׁכֶ֤ם אֹֽהֲבִים֙ אֶת־יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֔ם בְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶ֖ם וּבְכׇל־נַפְשְׁכֶֽם׃
(4) do not heed the words of that prophet or that dream-diviner. For your God יהוה is testing you to see whether you really love your God יהוה with all your heart and soul.

(ז) וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יהוה אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֖ן מֵאַ֣יִן תָּבֹ֑א וַיַּ֨עַן הַשָּׂטָ֤ן אֶת־יהוה וַיֹּאמַ֔ר מִשּׁ֣וּט בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּמֵֽהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ בָּֽהּ׃
(7) The LORD said to the Adversary, “Where have you been?” The Adversary answered the LORD, “I have been roaming all over the earth.”
מה שבלב יחזקיהו
(ל) וְה֣וּא יְחִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ סָתַם֙ אֶת־מוֹצָ֞א מֵימֵ֤י גִיחוֹן֙ הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן וַֽיַּישְּׁרֵ֥ם לְמַֽטָּה־מַּעְרָ֖בָה לְעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַיַּצְלַ֥ח יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכׇֽל־מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃(לא) וְכֵ֞ן בִּמְלִיצֵ֣י ׀ שָׂרֵ֣י בָבֶ֗ל הַֽמְשַׁלְּחִ֤ים עָלָיו֙ לִדְרֹ֗שׁ הַמּוֹפֵת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֣ה בָאָ֔רֶץ עֲזָב֖וֹ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים לְנַ֨סּוֹת֔וֹ לָדַ֖עַת כׇּל־בִּלְבָבֽוֹ׃
(30) It was Hezekiah who stopped up the spring of water of Upper Gihon, leading it downward west of the City of David; Hezekiah prospered in all that he did.(31) So too in the matter of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the sign that was in the land, when God forsook him in order to test him, to learn all that was in his mind.

(ח) וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֞וּ אֶת־ק֨וֹל יהוה אֱלֹהִ֛ים מִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ בַּגָּ֖ן לְר֣וּחַ הַיּ֑וֹם...
(8) They heard the sound of God יהוה moving about in the garden at the breezy time of day; and the Human and his wife hid from God יהוה among the trees of the garden.
יורד לראות
(ה) וַיֵּ֣רֶד יהוה לִרְאֹ֥ת אֶת־הָעִ֖יר וְאֶת־הַמִּגְדָּ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנ֖וּ בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃
(5) יהוה came down to look at the city and tower that humanity had built,
עולה מעל אברהם
(כב) וַיְכַ֖ל לְדַבֵּ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ וַיַּ֣עַל אֱלֹהִ֔ים מֵעַ֖ל אַבְרָהָֽם׃
(22) Done speaking with him, God was gone from Abraham.
ניצב על סולם
(יב) וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה סֻלָּם֙ מֻצָּ֣ב אַ֔רְצָה וְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ מַגִּ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה וְהִנֵּה֙ מַלְאֲכֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֔ים עֹלִ֥ים וְיֹרְדִ֖ים בּֽוֹ׃(יג)וְהִנֵּ֨ה יהוה נִצָּ֣ב עָלָיו֮ וַיֹּאמַר֒ אֲנִ֣י יהוה אֱלֹהֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יךָ וֵאלֹהֵ֖י יִצְחָ֑ק הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתָּה֙ שֹׁכֵ֣ב עָלֶ֔יהָ לְךָ֥ אֶתְּנֶ֖נָּה וּלְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃
(12) He had a dream; a stairway was set on the ground and its top reached to the sky, and messengers of God were going up and down on it.(13) And standing beside him was יהוה, who said, “I am יהוה, the God of your father Abraham’s [house] and the God of Isaac’s [house]: the ground on which you are lying I will assign to you and to your offspring.
עולה מעל יעקב
(יג)וַיַּ֥עַל מֵעָלָ֖יו אֱלֹהִ֑ים בַּמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ׃
(13) God parted from him at the spot where [God] had spoken to him;
פוגש את משה ואז מרפה ממנו
(כד) וַיְהִ֥י בַדֶּ֖רֶךְ בַּמָּל֑וֹן וַיִּפְגְּשֵׁ֣הוּ יהוה וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ הֲמִיתֽוֹ׃(כה) וַתִּקַּ֨ח צִפֹּרָ֜ה צֹ֗ר וַתִּכְרֹת֙ אֶת־עׇרְלַ֣ת בְּנָ֔הּ וַתַּגַּ֖ע לְרַגְלָ֑יו וַתֹּ֕אמֶר כִּ֧י חֲתַן־דָּמִ֛ים אַתָּ֖ה לִֽי׃(כו)וַיִּ֖רֶף מִמֶּ֑נּוּ אָ֚ז אָֽמְרָ֔ה חֲתַ֥ן דָּמִ֖ים לַמּוּלֹֽת׃ {פ}
(24) At a night encampment on the way, יהוה encountered him and sought to kill him.(25) So Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin, and touched his legs with it, saying, “You are truly a bridegroom of blood to me!”(26) And when [God] let him alone, she added, “A bridegroom of blood because of the circumcision.”
יורד על ראש ההר
(כ)וַיֵּ֧רֶד יהוה עַל־הַ֥ר סִינַ֖י אֶל־רֹ֣אשׁ הָהָ֑ר וַיִּקְרָ֨א יהוה לְמֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶל־רֹ֥אשׁ הָהָ֖ר וַיַּ֥עַל מֹשֶֽׁה׃
(20) יהוה came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain, and יהוה called Moses to the top of the mountain and Moses went up.
שוכן בערפל
(יח) וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד הָעָ֖ם מֵרָחֹ֑ק וּמֹשֶׁה֙ נִגַּ֣שׁ אֶל־הָֽעֲרָפֶ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ {ס}
(18) So the people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.
שוכן בערפל
(יב) אָ֖ז אָמַ֣ר שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה יהוה אָמַ֔ר לִשְׁכֹּ֖ן בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃
(12) then Solomon declared:
“The LORD has chosen
To abide in a thick cloud:
בא בשער
(ב) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלַ֜י יהוה הַשַּׁ֣עַר הַזֶּה֩ סָג֨וּר יִֽהְיֶ֜ה לֹ֣א יִפָּתֵ֗חַ וְאִישׁ֙ לֹא־יָ֣בֹא ב֔וֹ כִּ֛י יהוה אֱלֹהֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּ֣א ב֑וֹ וְהָיָ֖ה סָגֽוּר׃
(2) And the LORD said to me: This gate is to be kept shut and is not to be opened! No one shall enter by it because the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it; therefore it shall remain shut.
יוצא ממקומו ובא ודורך
(ב) שִׁמְעוּ֙ עַמִּ֣ים כֻּלָּ֔ם הַקְשִׁ֖יבִי אֶ֣רֶץ וּמְלֹאָ֑הּ וִיהִי֩ אדני יהוה בָּכֶם֙ לְעֵ֔ד אדני מֵהֵיכַ֥ל קׇדְשֽׁוֹ׃(ג)כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֥ה יהוה יֹצֵ֣א מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ וְיָרַ֥ד וְדָרַ֖ךְ עַל־[בָּ֥מֳתֵי](במותי) אָֽרֶץ׃
(2) Listen, all you peoples,
Give heed, O earth, and all it holds;
And let my Lord GOD be your accuser—
My Lord from His holy abode.(3) For lo! the LORD
Is coming forth from His dwelling-place,
He will come down and stride
Upon the heights of the earth.
יורד, רוכב, עף, נראה, גוער ונושם
(ט) עָלָ֤ה עָשָׁן֙ בְּאַפּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֥שׁ מִפִּ֖יו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּחָלִ֖ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃(י) וַיֵּ֥ט שָׁמַ֖יִם וַיֵּרַ֑ד וַעֲרָפֶ֖ל תַּ֥חַת רַגְלָֽיו׃(יא)וַיִּרְכַּ֥ב עַל־כְּר֖וּב וַיָּעֹ֑ףוַיֵּרָ֖א עַל־כַּנְפֵי־רֽוּחַ׃(יב) וַיָּ֥שֶׁת חֹ֛שֶׁךְ סְבִיבֹתָ֖יו סֻכּ֑וֹת חַֽשְׁרַת־מַ֖יִם עָבֵ֥י שְׁחָקִֽים׃(יג) מִנֹּ֖גַהּ נֶגְדּ֑וֹ בָּעֲר֖וּ גַּחֲלֵי־אֵֽשׁ׃ (יד) יַרְעֵ֥ם מִן־שָׁמַ֖יִם יהוה וְעֶלְי֖וֹן יִתֵּ֥ן קוֹלֽוֹ׃ (טו) וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח חִצִּ֖ים וַיְפִיצֵ֑ם בָּרָ֖ק (ויהמם)[וַיָּהֹֽם]׃(טז) וַיֵּֽרָאוּ֙ אֲפִ֣קֵי יָ֔ם יִגָּל֖וּ מֹסְד֣וֹת תֵּבֵ֑ל בְּגַעֲרַ֣ת יהוה מִנִּשְׁמַ֖ת ר֥וּחַ אַפּֽוֹ׃
(9) Smoke went up from His nostrils,
From His mouth came devouring fire;
Live coals blazed forth from Him.(10) He bent the sky and came down,
Thick cloud beneath His feet.(11) He mounted a cherub and flew;
He was seen-h on the wings of the wind.(12) He made pavilions of darkness about Him,
Dripping clouds, huge thunderheads;(13) In the brilliance before Him
Blazed fiery coals.(14) The LORD thundered forth from heaven,
The Most High sent forth His voice;(15) He let loose bolts, and scattered them;
Lightning, and put them to rout.(16) The bed of the sea was exposed,
The foundations of the world were laid bare
By the mighty roaring of the LORD,
At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.

(ט) עָ֘לָ֤ה עָשָׁ֨ן ׀בְּאַפּ֗וֹ וְאֵשׁ־מִפִּ֥יו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּ֝חָלִ֗ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃(י) וַיֵּ֣ט שָׁ֭מַיִם וַיֵּרַ֑ד וַ֝עֲרָפֶ֗ל תַּ֣חַת רַגְלָֽיו׃(יא)וַיִּרְכַּ֣ב עַל־כְּ֭רוּב וַיָּעֹ֑ףוַ֝יֵּ֗דֶא עַל־כַּנְפֵי־רֽוּחַ׃(יב) יָ֤שֶׁת חֹ֨שֶׁךְ ׀ סִתְר֗וֹ סְבִֽיבוֹתָ֥יו סֻכָּת֑וֹ חֶשְׁכַת־מַ֝֗יִם עָבֵ֥י שְׁחָקִֽים׃(יג) מִנֹּ֗גַהּ נֶ֫גְדּ֥וֹ עָבָ֥יו עָבְר֑וּ בָּ֝רָ֗ד וְגַֽחֲלֵי־אֵֽשׁ׃(יד) וַיַּרְעֵ֬ם בַּשָּׁמַ֨יִם ׀ יהוה וְ֭עֶלְיוֹן יִתֵּ֣ן קֹל֑וֹ בָּ֝רָ֗ד וְגַֽחֲלֵי־אֵֽשׁ׃(טו) וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח חִ֭צָּיו וַיְפִיצֵ֑ם וּבְרָקִ֥ים רָ֝֗ב וַיְהֻמֵּֽם׃(טז) וַיֵּ֤רָא֨וּ ׀ אֲפִ֥יקֵי מַ֗יִם וַֽיִּגָּלוּ֮ מוֹסְד֢וֹת תֵּ֫בֵ֥ל מִגַּעֲרָ֣תְךָ֣ יהוה מִ֝נִּשְׁמַ֗ת ר֣וּחַ אַפֶּֽךָ׃
(9) smoke went up from His nostrils,
from His mouth came devouring fire;

gliding on the wings of the wind.(12) He made darkness His screen;
dark thunderheads, dense clouds of the sky
were His pavilion round about Him.(13) Out of the brilliance before Him,
hail and fiery coals pierced His clouds.-g(14) Then the LORD thundered from heaven,
the Most High gave forth His voice—
hail and fiery coals.-h(15) He let fly His shafts and scattered them;
He discharged lightning and routed them.(16) The ocean bed was exposed;
the foundations of the world were laid bare
by Your mighty roaring, O LORD,
at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

(יג)מִ֭שָּׁמַיִם הִבִּ֣יט יהוה רָ֝אָ֗ה אֶֽת־כׇּל־בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃(יד)מִֽמְּכוֹן־שִׁבְתּ֥וֹ הִשְׁגִּ֑יחַ אֶ֖ל כׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָֽרֶץ׃
(13) The LORD looks down from heaven;
He sees all mankind.(14) From His dwelling-place He gazes
on all the inhabitants of the earth—

(סה)וַיִּקַ֖ץ כְּיָשֵׁ֥ן ׀ אדני כְּ֝גִבּ֗וֹר מִתְרוֹנֵ֥ן מִיָּֽיִן׃
(65) The Lord awoke as from sleep,
like a warrior shaking off-c wine.
עוטה, רוכב על עננים ומהלך על רוח
(א) בָּרְכִ֥י נַפְשִׁ֗י אֶת־יהוה יהוה אֱ֭לֹהַי גָּדַ֣לְתָּ מְּאֹ֑ד ה֖וֹד וְהָדָ֣ר לָבָֽשְׁתָּ׃(ב)עֹֽטֶה־א֭וֹר כַּשַּׂלְמָ֑ה נוֹטֶ֥ה שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם כַּיְרִיעָֽה׃(ג) הַ֥מְקָרֶ֥ה בַמַּ֗יִם עֲֽלִיּ֫וֹתָ֥יו הַשָּׂם־עָבִ֥ים רְכוּב֑וֹהַֽ֝מְהַלֵּ֗ךְ עַל־כַּנְפֵי־רֽוּחַ׃
(1) Bless the LORD, O my soul;
O LORD, my God, You are very great;
You are clothed in glory and majesty,(2) wrapped in a robe of light;
You spread the heavens like a tent cloth.(3) He sets the rafters of His lofts in the waters,
makes the clouds His chariot,
moves on the wings of the wind.
יושב גבוה
(ה) מִ֭י כַּיהוה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ הַֽמַּגְבִּיהִ֥י לָשָֽׁבֶת׃(ו) הַֽמַּשְׁפִּילִ֥י לִרְא֑וֹת בַּשָּׁמַ֥יִם וּבָאָֽרֶץ׃
(5) Who is like the LORD our God,
who, enthroned on high,(6) sees what is below,
in heaven and on earth?

(ב) לָ֭מָּה יֹאמְר֣וּ הַגּוֹיִ֑ם אַיֵּה־נָ֝֗א אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃(ג)וֵאלֹהֵ֥ינוּ בַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁר־חָפֵ֣ץ עָשָֽׂה׃(ד) ...(טז)הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם שָׁ֭מַיִם לַיהוה וְ֝הָאָ֗רֶץ נָתַ֥ן לִבְנֵי־אָדָֽם׃
(2) Let the nations not say,
“Where, now, is their God?”(3) when our God is in heaven
and all that He wills He accomplishes.(4) Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of men’s hands.(5) They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see;(6) they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell;(7) they have hands, but cannot touch,
feet, but cannot walk;
they can make no sound in their throats.(8) Those who fashion them,
all who trust in them,
shall become like them.(9) O Israel, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and shield.(10) O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and shield.(11) O you who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and shield.
(12) The LORD is mindful of us.
He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron;(13) He will bless those who fear the LORD,
small and great alike.
(14) May the LORD increase your numbers,
yours and your children’s also.(15) May you be blessed by the LORD,
Maker of heaven and earth.(16) The heavens belong to the LORD,
but the earth He gave over to man.
(ז)וַֽיִּמְצָאָ֞הּ (מַלְאַ֧ךְ) יהוה עַל־עֵ֥ין הַמַּ֖יִם בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר עַל־הָעַ֖יִן בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ שֽׁוּר׃ (ח) וַיֹּאמַ֗ר הָגָ֞ר שִׁפְחַ֥ת שָׂרַ֛י אֵֽי־מִזֶּ֥ה בָ֖את וְאָ֣נָה תֵלֵ֑כִי וַתֹּ֕אמֶר מִפְּנֵי֙ שָׂרַ֣י גְּבִרְתִּ֔י אָנֹכִ֖י בֹּרַֽחַת׃ (ט)וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהּ֙ (מַלְאַ֣ךְ) יהוה שׁ֖וּבִי אֶל־גְּבִרְתֵּ֑ךְ וְהִתְעַנִּ֖י תַּ֥חַת יָדֶֽיהָ׃ (י)וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהּ֙ (מַלְאַ֣ךְ) יהוה הַרְבָּ֥ה אַרְבֶּ֖ה אֶת־זַרְעֵ֑ךְ וְלֹ֥א יִסָּפֵ֖ר מֵרֹֽב׃ (יא) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהּ֙ (מַלְאַ֣ךְ) יהוה הִנָּ֥ךְ הָרָ֖ה וְיֹלַ֣דְתְּ בֵּ֑ן וְקָרָ֤את שְׁמוֹ֙ יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אלכִּֽי־שָׁמַ֥ע יהוה אֶל־עׇנְיֵֽךְ׃ (יג) וַתִּקְרָ֤א שֵׁם־יהוה הַדֹּבֵ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יהָ אַתָּ֖ה אֵ֣ל רֳאִ֑י כִּ֣י אָֽמְרָ֗ה הֲגַ֥ם הֲלֹ֛ם רָאִ֖יתִי אַחֲרֵ֥י רֹאִֽי׃
(7) A messenger of יהוה found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the road to Shur,
ב. "יהו-ה הדובר אליה" - מפורש שזהו יהו-ה עצמו.
ג. "אתה אל-ראי" בגוף שני, ולא 'הוא אל-ראי'.
ד. "הגם הלם ראיתי" אין סיבה לתמיהה בחזיון מלאכים, כי אם בחזיון יהו-ה.
(א) וַיֵּרָ֤א אֵלָיו֙ יהוה בְּאֵלֹנֵ֖י מַמְרֵ֑א וְה֛וּא יֹשֵׁ֥ב פֶּֽתַח־הָאֹ֖הֶל כְּחֹ֥ם הַיּֽוֹם׃ (ב) וַיִּשָּׂ֤א עֵינָיו֙ וַיַּ֔רְא וְהִנֵּה֙ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים נִצָּבִ֖ים עָלָ֑יו וַיַּ֗רְא וַיָּ֤רׇץ לִקְרָאתָם֙ מִפֶּ֣תַח הָאֹ֔הֶל וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ אָֽרְצָה׃ (ג) וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אדני אִם־נָ֨א מָצָ֤אתִי חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ אַל־נָ֥א תַעֲבֹ֖רמֵעַ֥ל עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ ... (י) וַיֹּ֗אמֶר שׁ֣וֹב אָשׁ֤וּב אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ כָּעֵ֣ת חַיָּ֔ה וְהִנֵּה־בֵ֖ן לְשָׂרָ֣ה אִשְׁתֶּ֑ךָ וְשָׂרָ֥ה שֹׁמַ֛עַת פֶּ֥תַח הָאֹ֖הֶל וְה֥וּא אַחֲרָֽיו׃... (יג)וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יהוה אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֑ם לָ֣מָּה זֶּה֩ צָחֲקָ֨ה שָׂרָ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר הַאַ֥ף אֻמְנָ֛ם אֵלֵ֖ד וַאֲנִ֥י זָקַֽנְתִּי׃ (יד) הֲיִפָּלֵ֥א מֵיהוה דָּבָ֑ר לַמּוֹעֵ֞ד אָשׁ֥וּב אֵלֶ֛יךָ כָּעֵ֥ת חַיָּ֖ה וּלְשָׂרָ֥ה בֵֽן׃ ... (טז)וַיָּקֻ֤מוּ מִשָּׁם֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיַּשְׁקִ֖פוּ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י סְדֹ֑ם וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם הֹלֵ֥ךְ עִמָּ֖ם לְשַׁלְּחָֽם׃ ... (כ)וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יהוה זַעֲקַ֛ת סְדֹ֥ם וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה כִּי־רָ֑בָּה וְחַ֨טָּאתָ֔ם כִּ֥י כָבְדָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃ (כא)אֵֽרְדָה־נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה הַכְּצַעֲקָתָ֛הּ הַבָּ֥אָה אֵלַ֖י עָשׂ֣וּ ׀ כָּלָ֑ה וְאִם־לֹ֖א אֵדָֽעָה׃ (כב)וַיִּפְנ֤וּ מִשָּׁם֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ סְדֹ֑מָה וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם עוֹדֶ֥נּוּ עֹמֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֥י יהוה׃ ... (לג)וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ יהוה כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּלָּ֔ה לְדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְאַבְרָהָ֖ם שָׁ֥ב לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
(א) וַ֠יָּבֹ֠אוּ שְׁנֵ֨י הַמַּלְאָכִ֤ים סְדֹ֙מָה֙ בָּעֶ֔רֶב וְל֖וֹט יֹשֵׁ֣ב בְּשַֽׁעַר־סְדֹ֑ם וַיַּרְא־לוֹט֙ וַיָּ֣קׇם לִקְרָאתָ֔ם וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ אַפַּ֖יִם אָֽרְצָה׃
(1) יהוה appeared to him by the terebinths of Mamre; he was sitting at the entrance of the tent as the day grew hot.
ב. אברהם מדבר בלשון נוכח יחיד "בעיניך", "תעבור", כי יהו-ה הוא ראש השלושה.
ג. הדובר עם אברהם משתמש בלשון יחיד, "אשוב", "אשוב". בפעם השניה מפורש שזהו יהו-ה.
ד. אברהם "הולך עמם לשלחם", וכשפנו משם (שני) האנשים, הוא "עודנו עומד לפני יהו-ה".
(יא)וַיָּבֹ֞א מַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ תַּ֤חַת הָֽאֵלָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּעׇפְרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְיוֹאָ֖שׁ אֲבִ֣י הָעֶזְרִ֑י וְגִדְע֣וֹן בְּנ֗וֹ חֹבֵ֤ט חִטִּים֙ בַּגַּ֔ת לְהָנִ֖יס מִפְּנֵ֥י מִדְיָֽן׃(יב)וַיֵּרָ֥א אֵלָ֖יו מַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו יהוה עִמְּךָ֖ גִּבּ֥וֹר הֶחָֽיִל׃(יג) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֤יו גִּדְעוֹן֙ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י וְיֵ֤שׁ יהוה עִמָּ֔נוּ וְלָ֥מָּה מְצָאַ֖תְנוּ כׇּל־זֹ֑את וְאַיֵּ֣ה כׇֽל־נִפְלְאֹתָ֡יו אֲשֶׁר֩ סִפְּרוּ־לָ֨נוּ אֲבוֹתֵ֜ינוּ לֵאמֹ֗ר הֲלֹ֤א מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ הֶעֱלָ֣נוּ יהוה וְעַתָּה֙ נְטָשָׁ֣נוּ יהוה וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖נוּ בְּכַף־מִדְיָֽן׃(יד)וַיִּ֤פֶן אֵלָיו֙ יהוה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לֵ֚ךְ בְּכֹחֲךָ֣ זֶ֔ה וְהוֹשַׁעְתָּ֥ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִכַּ֣ף מִדְיָ֑ן הֲלֹ֖א שְׁלַחְתִּֽיךָ׃(טו) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ בִּ֣י אדני בַּמָּ֥ה אוֹשִׁ֖יעַ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הִנֵּ֤ה אַלְפִּי֙ הַדַּ֣ל בִּמְנַשֶּׁ֔ה וְאָנֹכִ֥י הַצָּעִ֖יר בְּבֵ֥ית אָבִֽי׃(טז)וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ יהוה כִּ֥י אֶהְיֶ֖ה עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהִכִּיתָ֥ אֶת־מִדְיָ֖ן כְּאִ֥ישׁ אֶחָֽד׃(יז) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו אִם־נָ֛א מָצָ֥אתִי חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤יתָ לִּי֙ א֔וֹת שָׁאַתָּ֖ה מְדַבֵּ֥ר עִמִּֽי׃(יח) אַל־נָ֨א תָמֻ֤שׁ מִזֶּה֙ עַד־בֹּאִ֣י אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְהֹֽצֵאתִי֙ אֶת־מִנְחָתִ֔י וְהִנַּחְתִּ֖י לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אָנֹכִ֥י אֵשֵׁ֖ב עַ֥ד שׁוּבֶֽךָ׃(יט) וְגִדְע֣וֹן בָּ֗א וַיַּ֤עַשׂ גְּדִֽי־עִזִּים֙ וְאֵיפַת־קֶ֣מַח מַצּ֔וֹת הַבָּשָׂר֙ שָׂ֣ם בַּסַּ֔ל וְהַמָּרַ֖ק שָׂ֣ם בַּפָּר֑וּר וַיּוֹצֵ֥א אֵלָ֛יו אֶל־תַּ֥חַת הָאֵלָ֖ה וַיַּגַּֽשׁ׃ {פ}(כ) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו מַלְאַ֣ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים קַ֣ח אֶת־הַבָּשָׂ֤ר וְאֶת־הַמַּצּוֹת֙ וְהַנַּח֙ אֶל־הַסֶּ֣לַע הַלָּ֔ז וְאֶת־הַמָּרַ֖ק שְׁפ֑וֹךְ וַיַּ֖עַשׂ כֵּֽן׃(כא) וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח מַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה אֶת־קְצֵ֤ה הַמִּשְׁעֶ֙נֶת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּיָד֔וֹ וַיִּגַּ֥ע בַּבָּשָׂ֖ר וּבַמַּצּ֑וֹת וַתַּ֨עַל הָאֵ֜שׁ מִן־הַצּ֗וּר וַתֹּ֤אכַל אֶת־הַבָּשָׂר֙ וְאֶת־הַמַּצּ֔וֹת וּמַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה הָלַ֖ךְ מֵעֵינָֽיו׃(כב)וַיַּ֣רְא גִּדְע֔וֹן כִּֽי־מַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה ה֑וּא וַיֹּ֣אמֶר גִּדְע֗וֹן אֲהָהּ֙ אדני יהוה כִּֽי־עַל־כֵּ֤ן רָאִ֙יתִי֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ יהוה פָּנִ֖ים אֶל־פָּנִֽים׃(כג)וַיֹּ֨אמֶר ל֧וֹ יהוה שָׁל֥וֹם לְךָ֖ אַל־תִּירָ֑א לֹ֖א תָּמֽוּת׃(כד) וַיִּ֩בֶן֩ שָׁ֨ם גִּדְע֤וֹן מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוה וַיִּקְרָא־ל֥וֹ יהוה שָׁל֑וֹם עַ֚ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה עוֹדֶ֕נּוּ בְּעׇפְרָ֖ת אֲבִ֥י הָעֶזְרִֽי׃ {ס}
(11) An angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was then beating out wheat inside a winepress in order to keep it safe from the Midianites.(12) The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, “The LORD is with you, valiant warrior!”(13) Gideon said to him, “Please, my lord, if the LORD is with us, why has all this befallen us? Where are all His wondrous deeds about which our fathers told us, saying, ‘Truly the LORD brought us up from Egypt’? Now the LORD has abandoned us and delivered us into the hands of Midian!”(14) The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this strength of yours and deliver Israel from the Midianites. I herewith make you My messenger.”(15) He said to Him, “Please, my lord, how can I deliver Israel? Why, my clan is the humblest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s household.”(16) The LORD replied, “I will be with you, and you shall defeat Midian to a man.”(17) And he said to Him, “If I have gained Your favor, give me a sign that it is You who are speaking to me:(18) do not leave this place until I come back to You and bring out my offering and place it before You.” And He answered, “I will stay until you return.”(19) So Gideon went in and prepared a kid, and [baked] unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. He put the meat in a basket and poured the broth into a pot, and he brought them out to Him under the terebinth. As he presented them,(20) the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened bread, put them on yonder rock, and spill out the broth.” He did so.(21) The angel of the LORD held out the staff that he carried, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread with its tip. A fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. And the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.(22) Then Gideon realized that it was an angel of the LORD; and Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.”(23) But the LORD said to him, “All is well; have no fear, you shall not die.”(24) So Gideon built there an altar to the LORD and called it Adonai-shalom.-c To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
ב. (מלאך) יהו-ה 'נראה' אליו ולאחר מכן 'הלך מעיניו'. מלאכים הם שליחים ויכולים להיות נראים כל הזמן.
ג. "שאתה מדבר עימי" בגוף שני. גדעון מדבר עם יהו-ה ולא עם מלאך.
ד. התרגשות גדעון מובנת רק אם ראה את יהו-ה. כי אין סכנה בראיית מלאך.
ה. "וַיֵּרָ֥א" במובן של להיראות, הוא פועל שמופיע 15 פעמים במקרא כפעולת יהו-ה. מלבדם, גם יוסף 'נראה' לאביו (בראשית מו כט), ופעמיים יחזקאל משתמש לתיאור הופעה כללית (יחזקאל י ח, יט יא). אבל למלאכים הפעולה מיוחסת רק פעמיים מלבד כאן (שמות ג ב, שופטים יג ג). בדומה להגר לעיל, נראה מתוך ההקשר הפנימי כי כאן המילה 'מלאך' היא תוספת.
