(כז) וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ תּוֹלְדֹ֣ת תֶּ֔רַח תֶּ֚רַח הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־אַבְרָ֔ם אֶת־נָח֖וֹר וְאֶת־הָרָ֑ן וְהָרָ֖ן הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־לֽוֹט׃ (כח) וַיָּ֣מָת הָרָ֔ן עַל־פְּנֵ֖י תֶּ֣רַח אָבִ֑יו בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מוֹלַדְתּ֖וֹ בְּא֥וּר כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃ (כט) וַיִּקַּ֨ח אַבְרָ֧ם וְנָח֛וֹר לָהֶ֖ם נָשִׁ֑ים שֵׁ֤ם אֵֽשֶׁת־אַבְרָם֙ שָׂרָ֔י וְשֵׁ֤ם אֵֽשֶׁת־נָחוֹר֙ מִלְכָּ֔ה בַּת־הָרָ֥ן אֲבִֽי־מִלְכָּ֖ה וַֽאֲבִ֥י יִסְכָּֽה׃ (ל) וַתְּהִ֥י שָׂרַ֖י עֲקָרָ֑ה אֵ֥ין לָ֖הּ וָלָֽד׃ (לב) וַיִּהְי֣וּ יְמֵי־תֶ֔רַח חָמֵ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים וּמָאתַ֣יִם שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּ֥מָת תֶּ֖רַח בְּחָרָֽן׃
(27) And these are the records of Terah: Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran, and Haran was the father of Lot. (29) And Abram and Nahor took wives. Abram’s wife was Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was Milcah. (30) And Sarai was infertile. She did not have a child. (31) And Terah took Abram and Sarai and his grandson Lot, and they came as far as Haran and they stayed there. (32) And Terah’s days were two hundred and five years. And Terah died in Haran.
(1) And God said to Abram, “Go forth from your land, from your birthplace, and from your father’s house {and go} to the land that I will show you. (2)And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; And you will be a blessing. (3)And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you, I will curse. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.
Rashi on 12:1 Lech L'cha -- Meaning "For your own benefit, for your own good. It is there that I will make you into a great nation, whereas here you will not merit children. Also, I will make you character known to the world."
Etz Hayim on 12:1 Lech L'cha -- God's first words to Abram, translated as "Go forth" literally means "betake yourself." This is interpreted to mean "go forth and find your authentic self, to learn what you are meant to be."

(4)And Abram went as YHWH had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was 75 years old when he went out from Haran. (5)And Abram took Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had acquired and the souls {people} that they had made/acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. And they came to the land of Canaan. (6)And Abram traveled through the land as far as the place of Shechem, as far as the Plain of Moreh. And the Canaanites were in the land there.
(7)And God appeared to Abram and said “I will give this land to your seed.” And there he built an altar there to God, who had appeared to him. (8) From there he moved to the hill country east of Beth-el and pitched his tent – Beth-El to the west and Ai to the east, and he built an altar there to God and proclaimed the name YHWH. (9)And Abram travelled on, going steadily southward.
