We see below, from Zohar Miketz, that Pharoh knew the name Elohim but not that of Havaya. But what does that signify. In Parshat Bo, we see that Pharoh thought that Israel would remain captive for all time.
Connecting these two concepts, we conclude that the name of Elohim is associated with laws of nature, which are eternal and consistent. Understanding God only in that way, one could conclude that what was on the top will always be on the top, and what was on the bottom will always be there. Similar to the outlook featured in Kohelet, which uses the name Elohim exclusively.
Pharoh makes an error assuming that becuase Egypt is in power, it will always be that way, and that because Israel is enslaved, they will always be that way. The lesson of Moses is that things always evolve.
The name Havaha, which is derived from "who is, who was and who will be" aimplies an evolving relationship over time. This is how academics understand it too. This is the relationship in Song of Songs, which is read on Passover.
43. Rabbi Aba said, Come and behold the wicked Pharaoh, who said, "I know not Hashem (Yud Hei Vav Hei)" (Shemot 5:2). As he was wiser than all his magicians, HOW COULD HE HAVE NOT KNOWN YUD HEI VAV HEI? HE ANSWERS, Assuredly he knew the name of Elohim, as it is written, "Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom is the spirit of Elohim" (Beresheet 41:38). However, because Moses came before him with the name of Hashem only, it was hard for him to understand anything more, for he knew that ELOHIM was ruler over the land, but he did not know the name Hashem. Therefore he found this name difficult to grasp.
44. This is why it is written, "And Hashem hardened the heart of Pharaoh." It was the word YUD HEI VAV HEI that hardened his heart and made him headstrong. Moses, therefore, spoke to him only by the name Yud Hei Vav Hei, as has already been explained.
וּבְרוּחְצָנוּתָא דְּאִלֵּין דַּרְגִּין, סָרִיבוּ מִצְרָאֵי, דִּי בְּהוֹן עֲבָדוּ קִשְׁרָא לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, דְּלָא יִפְקוּן מִן עַבְדוּתְהוֹן לְעָלְמִין. וּבְהַאי אִתְחָזֵי גְּבוּרְתָּא וְשֻׁלְטָנוּתָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, וְדֻכְרָנָא דָּא לָא יִשְׁתֵּצֵי מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל לְדָרֵי דָּרִין,
120. Because they relied upon these levels, the Egyptians refused TO LET THE CHILDREN OF YISRAEL GO, for they formed a knot against Yisrael so they would never be able to leave their bondage. The strength and dominion of the Holy One, blessed be He, is seen in this, and this memory will never cease from Yisrael for all generations.
דְּאִי לָא הֲוָה חֵילָא וּגְבוּרְתָּא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, כָּל מַלְכֵי עַמִּין, וְכָל חָרָשֵׁי עָלְמִין, וְחַכִּימֵי עָלְמִין, לָא יִפְקוּן לְיִשְׂרָאֵל מִן עַבְדוּתָא, דְּשָׁרָא קִטְרִין דִּלְהוֹן, וְתָבַר כָּל אִינּוּן כִּתְרִין, בְּגִין לְאַפָּקָא לוֹן. עַל דָּא כְּתִיב, (ירמיהו י׳:ז׳) מִי לֹא יִרָאֲךָ מֶלֶךְ הַגּוֹיִם כִּי לְךָ יָאָתָה כִּי בְכָל חַכְמֵי הַגּוֹיִם וּבְכָל מַלְכוּתָם מֵאֵין כָּמוֹךָ.
If not for the strength and power of the Holy One, blessed be He, none the kings of the nations and all the sorcerers of the world would not have delivered Yisrael from bondage. For He opened their bonds and smashed all these crowns OF THE FIRSTBORN OF THE CAPTIVE MENTIONED EARLIER in order to take them out TO FREEDOM. Referring to this, it is written, "Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For to You it is fitting. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdom, there is none like You" (Yirmeyah 10:7).
