(יז) לֹֽא־תִשְׂנָ֥א אֶת־אָחִ֖יךָ בִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָ
הוֹכֵ֤חַ תּוֹכִ֙יחַ֙ אֶת־עֲמִיתֶ֔ךָ וְלֹא־תִשָּׂ֥א עָלָ֖יו חֵֽטְא׃
(יח) לֹֽא־תִקֹּ֤ם וְלֹֽא־תִטֹּר֙ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י עַמֶּ֔ךָ
וְאָֽהַבְתָּ֥ לְרֵעֲךָ֖ כָּמ֑וֹךָ אֲנִ֖י יְהוָֽה׃
You are not to hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke, yes, rebuke your fellow and you shall not bear sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or retain anger against your kinspeople.
Love your neighbor as yourself: I am Adonai.
(ח) אַל־תּ֣וֹכַח לֵ֭ץ פֶּן־יִשְׂנָאֶ֑ךָּ
הוֹכַ֥ח לְ֝חָכָ֗ם וְיֶאֱהָבֶֽךָּ׃
Do not rebuke a scoffer, for he will hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Rabbi Yose Son of Rabbi Hanina said:
Rebuke leads to love, as it says,
"Rebuke a wise man and he will love thee (Proverbs 9:8).
