13 (27) And they told him, and said, We came to the land where thou didst send us, and indeed it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

(28) But the people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of ῾Anaq there.

(29) ῾Amaleq dwells in the land of the Negev: and the Ḥitti, and the Yevusi, and the Emori dwell in the mountain: and the Kena῾ani dwell by the sea and by the side of the Yarden.

(30) And Kalev stilled the people before Moshe, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

(31) But the men who went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

(32) And they spread an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Yisra᾽el, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

(33) And there we saw the Nefilim, the sons of ῾Anaq who come of the Nefilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

14 (1) And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

(2) And all the children of Yisra᾽el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon: and the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Miżrayim! or would we had died in this wilderness!

(3) And why has the Lord brought us to this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return to Miżrayim?

(4) And they said to one another, Let us appoint a chief, and let us return to Miżrayim.

(5) Then Moshe and Aharon fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Yisra᾽el.

(6) And Yehoshua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunne, of those who spied out the land, rent their clothes:

(7) and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Yisra᾽el, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.

(8) If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey.

(9) Only rebel not against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.

(10) But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the Tent of Meeting before all the children of Yisra᾽el.

(11) And the Lord said to Moshe, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have performed among them?

(12) I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

(13) And Moshe said to the Lord, Then Miżrayim shall hear it, (for thou didst bring up this people in thy might from among them;)

(14) and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: who have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

(15) Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

(16) Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.

(17) And now, I pray thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

(18) The Lord is longsuffering, and great in love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing the guilty, punishing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

(19) Pardon, I pray thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy love, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Miżrayim until now.
