I. Obligation to Study Torah
(6) And these words which I command you today shall be upon your heart. (7) Teach them to your children. Recite them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.
II. Obligation to Bless the Study of Torah
אָמַר רַב יְהוּדָה: מִנַּיִן לְבִרְכַּת הַמָּזוֹן לְאַחֲרֶיהָ מִן הַתּוֹרָה — שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״וְאָכַלְתָּ וְשָׂבָעְתָּ וּבֵרַכְתָּ״. מִנַּיִן לְבִרְכַּת הַתּוֹרָה לְפָנֶיהָ מִן הַתּוֹרָה — שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: ״כִּי שֵׁם ה׳ אֶקְרָא הָבוּ גֹדֶל לֵאלֹהֵינוּ״.
Rav Yehuda said: Where do we see that the blessing after meals comes from the Torah? As it is stated: “And you shall eat and you shall be satisfied and you shall bless the Eternal your God.” (Deuteronomy 8:10).
Where do we see that the blessings before Torah study come from the Torah? As it is stated: “When I call out the name of the Eternal, give greatness to our God.” (Deuteronomy 32:3).
III. The Practice of Blessing
(י) אם הפסיק מללמוד ונתעסק בעסקיו כיון שדעתו לחזור ללמוד לא הוי הפסק וה"ה לשינה ומרחץ ובה"כ דלא הוי הפסק:
(יג) המשכים קודם אור היום ללמוד מברך ברכ' התור' ואינו צריך לחזור ולברך כשילך לבית הכנסת
(10) If one was interrupted from studying and gets involved with one's activities, since it was in one's head to return and study, this is not an interruption. And this is the law for sleep or the bathhouse or the outhouse, that it is not an interruption...
(13) Those who wake early, before the light of day, to study, bless the Blessings of the Torah and there is no need to go back and bless again when one goes to the synagogue.
IV. The Blessings
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר קִדְּ֒שָֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּנוּ לַעֲסֹק בְּדִבְרֵי תוֹרָה:
וְהַעֲרֶב נָא יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ אֶת־דִּבְרֵי תוֹרָתְךָ בְּפִֽינוּ וּבְפִי עַמְּךָ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל. וְנִהְיֶה אֲנַֽחְנוּ וְצֶאֱצָאֵֽינוּ וְצֶאֱצָאֵי עַמְּךָ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל כֻּלָּֽנוּ יוֹדְעֵי שְׁמֶֽךָ וְלוֹמְדֵי תוֹרָתֶֽךָ. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה הַמְלַמֵּד תּוֹרָה לְעַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר בָּֽחַר בָּֽנוּ מִכָּל הָעַמִּים וְנָֽתַן לָֽנוּ אֶת־תּוֹרָתוֹ: בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה נוֹתֵן הַתּוֹרָה:
Blessed are You, Our Eternal God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with commandments and commanded us to immerse in the words of Torah.
Our Eternal God, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of Your people Israel. And may we and our descendants [and the descendants of our descendants] and the descendants of Your people the House of Israel - all of us know Your Name study Your Torah for its own sake. Blessed are You, Eternal One, Who teaches Torah to the People of Israel.
Blessed are You, Our Eternal God, King of the Universe, Who chose us from among all the peoples and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, Eternal One, Giver of the Torah!
V. A Bit of Torah Study
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃ דַּבֵּר אֶל־אַהֲרֹן וְאֶל־בָּנָיו לֵאמֹר כֹּה תְבָרְכוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמוֹר לָהֶם:
יְבָרֶכְ֒ךָ יְהֹוָה וְיִשְׁמְרֶֽךָ: יָאֵר יְהֹוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶֽיךָ וִיחֻנֶּֽךָּ: יִשָּׂא יְהֹוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶֽיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם:
וְשָׂמוּ אֶת שְׁמִי עַל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַאֲנִי אַבָרְכֵם:
אֵֽלּוּ דְבָרִים שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם שִׁעוּר הַפֵּאָה וְהַבִּכּוּרִים וְהָרְ֒אָיוֹן וּגְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים וְתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה:
אֵֽלּוּ דְבָרִים שֶׁאָדָם אוֹכֵל פֵּרוֹתֵיהֶם בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וְהַקֶּֽרֶן קַיֶּֽמֶת לָעוֹלָם הַבָּא, וְאֵֽלּוּ הֵן כִּבּוּד אָב וָאֵם וּגְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים וְהַשְׁכָּמַת בֵּית הַמִּדְרָשׁ שַׁחֲרִית וְעַרְבִית וְהַכְנָסַת אוֹרְ֒חִים וּבִקּוּר חוֹלִים וְהַכְנָסַת כַּלָּה וּלְוָיַת הַמֵּת וְעִיּוּן תְּפִלָּה וַהֲבָאַת שָׁלוֹם בֵּין אָדָם לַחֲבֵרוֹ ובֵין אִישׁ לְאִשְׁתּוֹ וְתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה כְּנֶֽגֶד כֻּלָּם:
The Eternal Spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, so shall you bless the Children of Israel. Say to them:
May the Eternal bless you and keep you. May the Eternal's face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
May the Eternal's face turn toward you and grant you peace.
And they shall place My Name upon the Children of Israel, and I shall bless them. (Numbers 6:22-27)
These are the things that have no measure: The corners of the field. First-fruits; The offerings brought on appearing at the Temple on the three pilgrimage festivals;
Acts of Kindness; And the study of Torah.

These are the things for which a person enjoys the fruits in this world while the principal reward remains for them in the world to come: Honoring father and mother, Acts of kindness, early attendance at the House of Study morning and evening, Hospitality to Guests, Visiting the Sick,
Bringing a bride in [to the chupah], Accompanying the dead [to the grave],
Deep concentration during prayer, Bringing peace between a person and their friend, or between husband and wife — And the study of Torah is equal to them all. (Talmud, Shabbat 127a)
