How should we teach the 10 plagues to kids?

Exodus 10:1-2

(1) Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh. For I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his courtiers, in order that I may display these My signs among them, (2) and that you may recount in the hearing of your child and of your child’s child how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I displayed My signs among them—in order that you may know that I am the LORD.”

Ibn Ezra on Exodus 10:2:1

AND THAT THOU MAYEST TELL. God spoke to Moses, who is equivalent to all of Israel. Similarly, that ye may know that I am the Lord means that all Israel shall know the aforementioned. The Torah speaks in human terms when it says, I have wrought, for it pictures God as acting as a human being who arranges events in order to avenge himself upon another.

And because the Holy One, Who Shall Be Blessed will not make signs and wonders in every generation for the eyes of some wicked or heretics, has therefore commanded us that we should always make a memorial or sign of that which we have seen with our eyes, and that we should transmit the matter to our children, and their children to their children, to the generations to come, and thus placed great emphasis on it, as is indicated by the fact that one is liable to extinction for eating leavened bread on the Passover, and for abandoning the Passover-offering, [i.e., for not taking part in the slaughtering thereof]...

Why are the plagues recounted in the Torah?
What is the educational goal?
How should we handle teaching the 10 plagues to kids?
My suggestion is to be honest and explain the following (in no particular order):

The plagues were not a joke and were not "silly"
People were hurt and died in the plagues.
The Death of the Firstborn means that children and adults were killed.
We don’t fully know why God chose to send 9 plagues before sending the 10^th
The plagues might have been a necessary evil to prevent greater harm.
The plagues were meant to protect the Jewish People.
The plagues illustrate God's great power.
The fun bags of plagues use at seder should be used as a method to teach and not belittle
Talk about God – we don’t do it enough.
Emphasize that we pour out wine/grape juice at the Seder to remember the suffering the plagues caused.
