Parshat Va'era In Memory of Shimshon Ben Shalom

(9) “When Pharaoh speaks to you and says, ‘Produce for yourselves a marvel,’ you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it down before Pharaoh.’ It shall turn into a serpent.”

Its asked in the Holy writings of the Noam Elimelech that this verse should have said in regards to Pharaoh asking for a sign, "produce for me a marvel", and not for yourselves, so that the proof of HaShem would be for Pharaoh to know that HaShem really sent them and that they are messengers of The Merciful one.

And there is what to say here with the help of Heaven. Behold, a principle of religion and a fundamental foundation is that a human must strengthen himself with complete faith that everything that happens to all of humanity is simply personal divine providence directly from The Blessed HaShem.

As we can see in the words of the Rambam that a person with faith lives a life filled with life!

And if a person wants to live a life of tranquility and peace, he must believe that HaShem personally oversees all that happens, and if you do not believe in this, your heart will eventually become saddened, since you will never be able to console or calm yourself over your finances and general situations you find yourself in. And if perhaps you have to now travel to somewhere far away for the need to make money thats not ideal for you, you will come to question HaShems attributes, G-D forbid, and by thinking that way, all the days of your life will be filled with suffering and agony, may there be mercy upon you. And this is not the way of living life, rather it is incumbent upon a person to strengthen themselves with faith in person divine providence, and to know that everything comes from The Blessed One, Whom is the reason of all reasons, and it must be that these things are unfolding for a reason from above which is for the inevitable and eternal good.

And I saw to explain the following teaching from the sages -

..Rabbi Elazar says: From the Torah, from the Prophets, and from the Writings one learns that along the path a person wishes to proceed, the heavens leads and assists him in that path!

Instead of reading this as a statement, we can also read it as a question and a statement of wonder, and can be read in the following manner -

'a person wishes to go in the path of his choosing, BUT, isn't it he already guided from Heaven? [So how can a person have his own wants with his own path outside of whats meant for his path]

And the main thing is that a person must know that comprehension of reality is beyond us in regards to the ways of and the greatness of The Creator Blessed be He. And as it's brought down in the writings of the Rambam, may he be remembered for eternal life, that the purpose of knowledge is that you should know that you don't know! Its incumbent upon humans to know that its beyond them to comprehend the greatness and the ways of the Creator Blessed be He, with no limit and boundary, and this is the fundamental principle of faith.

And I heard from my uncle the famous and devout Holy Rabbi our teacher the Rav David, may he be remembered for eternal life, and may HaShem avenge his blood! [He was murdered in the war] on the following verse -

(3) A man’s folly subverts his way,
And his heart rages against the LORD.

This verse teaches us that in regards to the nature of humanity, that after someone does an action and isn't successful with what was attempted, they think and say I made a mistake, I should have done this or that differently. However in truth that is folly and silly since all steps of all humans is from HaShem!

(23) The steps of a man are made firm by the LORD, the desired path is prepared for man

And this thing that happened to you wasn't a mistake, it was simply willed this way from the Heavens. And this is the explanation in the verse above regarding a mans folly, that the follyness and thinking silly is in regards to man if he subverts his mind from the proper path, which means to teach us that the error is that man thinks that his life caused the issues to unfold before him, and that it doesn't come directly from HaShem, and its upon us to know and believe that there is no path outside of the reality that 'This too comes from HaShem'.

And this is the explanation of the verse -

(4) Assyria shall not save us,
No more will we ride on steeds;
Nor ever again will we call
Our handiwork our god,
Since in You alone orphans find pity!”

Behold, a person sets out to form some sort of business, and he says HaShem will help me with the work of my hands, and then from this it seems that the man is doing the main work over here, rather he will say that HaShem Blessed be He will also help me. This way of thinking is a very big distraction from reality, since everything that happens is simply from HaShem, the thoughts that you had for the startup and the actions you took to help launch it, and if you are going to have success or not have success to go in that way, HaShem oversees and does all, NOT just help you, and this is why it says in the above verse 'Nor ever again will we call our handiwork our god' which we can see to mean that we will no longer think that HaShem is simply helping us, rather he is doing all for us with personal divine oversight!

As my father my mentor and Rabbi may he be remembered for eternal life says, in regards to when we say the Ani Ma'amin prayers -

I believe with complete faith that the Creator, blessed is His Name, is the Creator and Guide of all created things, and He alone has made, does make, and will make all things.

We say He alone did, does, and will do, for ALL the creation, which means that HaShem does the action in completion and is not just the helper for the one performing the action.

And with this concept we can explain the words of the Prophet Jeremiah -

(כב) כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה אַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֤ל חָכָם֙ בְּחׇכְמָת֔וֹ וְאַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל הַגִּבּ֖וֹר בִּגְבֽוּרָת֑וֹ אַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל עָשִׁ֖יר בְּעׇשְׁרֽוֹ׃ (כג) כִּ֣י אִם־בְּזֹ֞את יִתְהַלֵּ֣ל הַמִּתְהַלֵּ֗ל הַשְׂכֵּל֮ וְיָדֹ֣עַ אוֹתִי֒ כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה עֹ֥שֶׂה חֶ֛סֶד מִשְׁפָּ֥ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה בָּאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־בְאֵ֥לֶּה חָפַ֖צְתִּי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
(22) Thus said the LORD:
Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom;
Let not the strong man glory in his strength;
Let not the rich man glory in his riches.
(23) But only in this should one glory:
In his earnest devotion to Me.
For I the LORD act with kindness,
Justice, and equity in the world;
For in these I delight
—declares the LORD.

Which we can see means that we need to recognize the part of G-D in everything, and do not think that you are the smart one, and that you with your smartness achieved, rather, EVERYTHING comes from G-D.

And this was specifically the intentions of Pharaoh the wicked, who with the power of the dark side wanted to uproot from Israel the concept of faith in divine providence. Therefor HaShem gave the 'healing before the sickness', and said to Moses and Aharon, you should know that Pharaoh will speak to you and ask for you to provide a sign for YOURSELVES, and the intention over here is to incite you to believe that the wonders you are producing is YOURSELF, meaning, from yourself, and not HaShem. Because he wanted to instill in them the concept of 'from their own might and handiwork' and not that everything is personal divine providence from HaShem, therefor Pharaoh did not say provide for ME a sign..

But Moses our teacher, may he be loved by Heaven had already said -

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר מֹשֶׁ֔ה לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר הֵ֤ן בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֹֽא־שָׁמְע֣וּ אֵלַ֔י וְאֵיךְ֙ יִשְׁמָעֵ֣נִי פַרְעֹ֔ה וַאֲנִ֖י עֲרַ֥ל שְׂפָתָֽיִם׃ {פ}
But Moses appealed to the LORD, saying, “The Israelites would not listen to me; how then should Pharaoh heed me, a man of impeded speech!”

Which we see that Moses felt that from his own strength and skills he was weak of speech, and felt that he had no ability to get anything in this matter accomplished on his own, and that all the abilities in this world simply come from the Blessed HaShem, and we have no other Lord besides Him, Selah. And this is correct, with the help of Heaven.
