(טז) הַמַּלְאָךְ֩ הַגֹּאֵ֨ל אֹתִ֜י מִכָּל־רָ֗ע יְבָרֵךְ֮ אֶת־הַנְּעָרִים֒ וְיִקָּרֵ֤א בָהֶם֙ שְׁמִ֔י וְשֵׁ֥ם אֲבֹתַ֖י אַבְרָהָ֣ם וְיִצְחָ֑ק וְיִדְגּ֥וּ לָרֹ֖ב בְּקֶ֥רֶב הָאָֽרֶץ׃
(16) The angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.’
(טז) המלאך הגאל אתי מַלְאָךְ הָרָגִיל לְהִשְׁתַּלֵּחַ אֵלַי בְּצָרָתִי; כָּעִנְיָן שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים בַּחֲלֹם יַעֲקֹב וְגוֹ' אָנֹכִי הָאֵל בֵּית אֵל (בראשית ל"א):
(יז) יברך את הנערים מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶפְרַיִם:
(יח) וידגו כַּדָּגִים הַלָּלוּ שֶׁפָּרִים וְרָבִים וְאֵין עַיִן הָרָע שׁוֹלֶטֶת בָּהֶם:
(16) המלאך הגאל אתי THE ANGEL REDEEMING ME — The angel who was usually sent to me in my trouble, as it is said, (Genesis 31:11) “And the angel of God said unto me in the dream: Jacob etc. … (Genesis 31:13), I am the God of Beth-el.”
(17) יברך את הנערים SHALL BLESS THE LADS — viz, Manasseh and Ephraim.
(18) וידגו AND LET THEM INCREASE — like fishes (דגים) which are fruitful and which multiply and which the evil eye cannot effect (Berakhot 20a).
(5) The LORD bless thee out of Zion; And see thou the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life; (6) And see thy children's children. Peace be upon Israel!
(ה) יברכך - הטעם זאת הברכה תבוא לך מאת הכבוד שוכן בציון. והטעם הבית הסמוך בציון הוא בית השם.
[He will] BLESS THEE - the meaning is that this blessing will come to you from the honor that dwells in Zion. And the meaning of the house that is close to Zion is the house of Hashem.
(ה) וטעם וראה בטוב ירושלם – בלכתו שלש רגלים.
